Any creature found in Wasted Time generally has a job to do. Since the tribal folk are nomadic, keeping pets around can be quite difficult. It's seen as a luxury, and it means that you have food to waste. The creatures available are:

Whers: the size of a low slung horse, they are used as guards, and tunnel exploration.

Firelizards: we all know flits, right? They are seen more on the Southern Continent. There are a few to the North as well, but none in the area of roleplay. Dragonriders from the 8th interval would not know what these are.

Felines: bigger than the average housecat, they are used to hunt rodents and tunnelsnakes.

Canines: are used for herding and hunting.

'Beasts: runnerbeasts, herdbeasts, draftbeasts, they all have different tasks and can be useful to the natives of this time.

Others: wild whers, tunnelsnakes, wild felines, and other creatures roam Pern. If you have any questions, just ask!
