Illness forces Wiggles lead singer to quit

PERTH, Australia, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- The lead singer of children's group The Wiggles has quit the Australian band because of a rare illness.

Greg Page said he has orthostatic intolerance, a debilitating disease that causes dizziness, fatigue and nausea, the BBC said.

The condition, while not life-threatening, means, "I'll no longer be able to sing and dance as I want to," Page said in a statement.

Page, 34, will be replaced by Sam Moran, an understudy. With its international audience and television broadcasts, the foursome is among Australia's top money-earners.

"I'll miss being part of The Wiggles very much, but this is the right decision because it will allow me to focus on managing my health," said Page, the yellow Wiggle.

The blood pressure-related illness has affected Page's balance, breathing and coordination. He left the group's U.S. tour in June after suffering fainting spells and lethargy.

Band members said they were saddened by the news.

"It's very surreal that Greg's not going to be with us, very sad," Anthony Field, the blue Wiggle, said during a news conference Perth where the group is kicking off an Australian tour.
