| QUOTE (Julie @ Nov 2 2009, 09:27 PM) | The ice and snow that cap majestic Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania are vanishing before our eyes.
If current conditions persist, climate change experts say, Kilimanjaro's world-renowned glaciers, which have covered Africa's highest peak for centuries, will be gone within the next two decades.

Hmmm, I did some research and looked up the temperature atop Mt Kilimanjaro. It seems that even at its highest, the temperature is still sub freezing. Gee, I wonder how"Global Warming" is destroying the snow atop the mountain. How does snow melt in subfreezing weather? Could it be that, God forbid, there is something else going on? Could it be the natural process of ablation? Could it be the lowest sunspot cycle in 2 centuries causing this phenomena? Could it be that humans are so arrogant that we actually think we can Re-Terraform the Earth?

while i do not think global warming is man made, it is certainly man assisted. increased CO2 levels do contribute to the warming. we need to step away in discussing why but rather what are the consequences and how can we deal with them.

Jens, Throughout the the life of the Earth cataclysmic climactic changes have occurred and there have been no humans and certainly no industrial pollution. At one point the entire Earth was covered in ice and as Ice is white the sun's warmth was reflected causing -60 degree temps at the EQUATOR. Somehow, without Al Gore, the planet warmed up and became hospitable to life.
Al Gore, without an ounce of technical ability became the self-made climatology guru and hysterical Henny Penny's and left wing radicals determined to bring down the industrial West suddenly started screaming that we were destroying the planet. Global cooling became global warming but they could not account for worldwide temps going down. Any natural disaster became suddenly the fault of Global Warming. We have had two very quiet hurricane seasons and the hysterical "the sky is falling" crowd are silent. Now we have Ida in the Gulf and they are screaming Global Warming and America has to pay a tax. I guess they have never been to Haiti, India, China, etc... etc to see real pollution or to the Barents Sea to see that the Soviet Union turned it into a nuclear toilet. Jens I am not saying that we should proceed along our current path unabated but what I am saying is that natural phenomena are not caused by global warming and with apologies and respect to Julie they need to STOP and think scientifically and not emotionally and stop being led around by the nose by hysterical groups with another agenda than saving the planet. BTW... are you aware that polar bear population is INCREASING?

Dan,
Thank you for demonstrating why nothing will be done until too late.
You will always say your bit, never mind if it has any relevance to the discussion. That is: Because in reality you have less knowledge about the topic at hand than that what you attribute to Al Gore (much less than what he really has, for that matter).
The point is: Whatever happened in the past without human influence is irrelevant. Possibly there is some natural contribution to global warming, but so what? Do you want to sit in the frying pan, refusing to do anything and cry out all the time "It's not my fault!"?
We really need to rectify the CO2-increase. How to do it best there are different opinions - anyway there will be major investments to be made. But the progress is so damned slow because on every step of the way there are the Naysayers who will deny what can be seen on Kilimanjaro and other places. Because admitting global warming would mean they have to give up their SUV and their livestyle which consists of avoiding any exertion.

Robert I feel so very bad for you as you sit there wallowing in an ignorant arrogance.
You know NOTHING of what you speak. You have no proof, NO science, NO real statistics nothing and all that you have in your hand is well... you know but how wonderful the arrogance you have to pretend that you are on top of all this. If as you say what happened in the past without human influence then you are saying that your hormones are raging and you are hysterical. You seem to be the wrong gender for PMS.
I guess they have never taught science where you went to school.... you did go to school yes?
You are dismissing that there have been times in the past where the CO2 has far exceeded what we have today yet no Global Warming or Cooling for that matter.
You still cannot explain Kilimanjaro despite that temps on the mountain are BELOW freezing. Last I heard ice does not melt when the temp is BELOW freezing. I will check this out this year when I go skiing. By the way, how much melted water is in YOUR freezer?
Rather than applying Gore's hysterics, maybe he needs a fresh tampon, I apply a SCIENTIFIC method with real data. You might try it sometime and you will realize that Global warming is simply another left wing attempt to de-industrialize the Capitalist West. I am an American and do NOT apologize for my success...I worked damn hard for it and I will not surrender it to some looney tune that wants his diapers changed.

| QUOTE | Dan you and I have had the best of the best the world could offer not because we worked hard but because we took and took and consumed and self indulged and gave nothing back. Now we die and leave a garbage pit for our grandchildren to live in.
And by the way, what exactly does being American have to do with anything? |
Maybe you feel guilty having lived in the richest most powerful and most successful country this planet has ever see but I do not. Being an American means that I am free from the oppression of Government, that I am free to raise my family my way, to worshhip God as I see fit and to acheive success. It means FREEDOm and that is why so many of the world emigrates here. Who fucking emigrates to Afghanistan or any other Islamic shit hole?
We have had the best the the world could offer because we worked our fucking asses off rather than sit on our ass waiting for the Government dime. We've had the best because we risked rather than sit safely in our little Government issued apartments. We've had the best because for the most part we are free from political corruption and militray dictatorships. ............and what we got from other countries was in fair excvhange. The dictators of the world that you so love just killed people and took what they wanted turning the environmet into a toilet and ruining peoples lives and hope. America is the largest contributor of aid around the world. America freely gives of its satellie weather data to help countries. America was FIRST at the Tsunami and despite the protestations from the French who were forced to eat on, gasp, paper plates, we fed, clothed and housed thousands and provided fresh water and electricity. And I can go on all day long SO WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?
Before you talk ill about America.....go look at Russia, China, India, Iran, Afghanistan, Libya, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, Bolivia, Columbia, Mexico, North Korea, Burma, Sri Lanka, Kzakstan, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Mozambique, South Africa, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Djibouti, Egypt, Eritrea, Guinea-Bissau, Rwanda, Niger, Mauritania etc...etc...etc DON'T EVER PULL THIS GUILT SHIT ON ME EVER AGAIN. KNOW WHAT THE FUCK YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT.
