With the mission in Afghanistan considered "too big to fail" resulting in calls for another troop surge, Afghanistan has been likened to an AIG of US foreign policy, needing to be propped up rather than considered a loss that needs to be cut back.

it boggles to think that the Russians were defeated by the mujaheddin that was supplied and supported by the Americans. The mujaheddin then morphed into Taliban and Al Queda and here we are. Its only a matter of time till we bug out with our tail between our legs, when we get sick of the body bags and it becomes more politically expedient to not be there.

I distinctly remember Obama saying during a campaign speech that he would "get" Bin Ladin. What happened?
