Cheers both. Hasn't actually been channeled yet - just that much rot in it. Floors are in heater channels are in. Gonna pull it in and fully weld it then channel it.

Yeah we are going to roof chop it, but this has a steel sliding sun roof in it that I want to keep, so need to figure that out. Just want to get all the usual resto stuff done, then can start on the exciting bits.

Nice, welcome to the crew. I like your scale model, is that what the plans are?

if you're going to remove a big strip all the way round its a real pain in the ar$e to get the quarters to match up again, you could always weld the channels in however much higher up in the first place so that you've only got one weld to do. could make for cleaner lines. I think trib did something like that.

Aye not sure what the channelings going to involve yet! Had to get the shell sturdy before cutting it to bits again! Have managed to purchase the yellow beetle in the pics too for another roof and bits and pieces so should have backup if it all goes horribly wrong.

Scale model is a hotwheels find! The other half thought I was mental when I was getting excited by it haha!

That pop.... Is all I'm saying! You inside joker you.

QUOTE (mouldy the merciless @ Nov 3 2011, 02:55 PM)
I think trib did something like that.

Yep .. I just cut the bottom off and dropped the whole thing down, then attached new A-pillar bottoms with the hinge attachments already in place ... that way all (all?) I had to do was cut a horizontal piece out of the middle of the door to match the bit removed from the body, and the hinges and the door all lined up again ...

My Neder-chop method would preserve the sunroof too smile.gif You'd just need to widen it a bit ...

have a quick look at my thread too. I just sliced 3 inch off the bottom and welded 6mm plate in. may be an option. Although you already have channels so maybe just weld them in higher. seems silly to weld it twice to me. just my 2 pence of course smile.gif

The way I chopped my roof would preserve the sunroof too.

Aye. Reason for the channels being tacked in is due to there being absoloutely nothing left holding the shell straight. Tacking in the channels meant we could square the body to the pan and make sure it was in all the right places. It's turned into pretty much a nut and bolt rebuild. I will be doing the channels higher up as I want to do away with the gap left for the running boards.

cool day today! redid my rear quarter panel which i tooled up and got one front quarter in as well as the other side prepped - but basically one side is all finished! Bar the seam welding but it is pretty much there. Also means We can think about getting the box in and getting it stanced then start on the body. This month should ramp up loads of speed and good stuff to start happening.

Got the other front quarter panel in a couple of weeks back and have now started on my gearbox raise. Worked it out to having to come up 4 inches. I made a template and butchered some metal to rough shape, then a mates dad milled it square and put the holes in the right place. Just need to get the top on and that can go in and then the box can go back in meaning it will be back on it's wheels!

That looks like mighty thin plate to rely on for a 4 inch support mate ...

If you're interested, take a look at what I did with two pre-72 rear mounts ... it's as beefy as hell and gives you 100 mm lift which is as near as dammit 4 inches.

Its half of this page ... http://z13.invisionfree.com/VolksRods_UK/i...pic=4403&st=400

It's 6mm plate and i am going to brace it up as well so should be ok. Will take a look at yours as well though! It's all a learning curve lol.

Yeah the workshops alright - getting cold now though.
