Here are some pictures of our hot rod vw. More like my brothers Hot Rod VW. He has done it all but I get to wire it and build the engine. My brother Cory Vaughn gets all the credit for this build. Im just chomping at the bit waiting to put an engine in it. | QUOTE (radiotrib @ Sep 8 2011, 10:18 AM) | ARRRRRGH !!! >> Tool Envy !!! Tool Envy !!!
But sewriously - You've done some pretty amazing fab work there. Being an oddball, I particularly love the hinge-up hood prop ... and my hat is off to anyone who does a quarter light (vent window) chop ... It looks like you fabbed up anew frame for the glass, coz I can't see any cuts .. am I right? ... I cut mine up to do it and putting it back together was a serious balls ache ! |
Thank you sir. The hood prop did take a little planning, it had to close over the Model T fuel tank and clear the hood, and have a catch to hold it, and a strong hinge, and on and on. We put it down on paper a few times before landing on a simple design. Here are some drawings of earlier thoughts. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.usAlso we used the original vent windows. We aquired more of the window channel by shortening the uprights and relocating its mount. The pivot point for the vent windows was made from scratch. ill try to find some pictures. I feel another VERY serious dose of tool envy coming along right now ... I think I need to go and lie down .... An English Wheel, a stretcher/shrinker .. and a bunch of other bits you would only find in a serious pro-shop here in Northern Europe ... and you have these ###In you Garage### ... ????? Oh ... hot flush ... you wanna do a house swap for your next vacation ?? ..... oh ... erm ... I think I'd better talk to the boss indoors before I make any more rash offers BTW ... I don't even have a vice .....

| QUOTE (radiotrib @ Sep 8 2011, 05:35 PM) | Ahaaa ... so you did cut them up like I did, you just made them deeper at the same time. Mine use the original mount points in the top and lower section of the door and the bottom hinge was turned 180 degrees to line it up with the place the hinge had moved to relative to the pivot line .. it almost worked like it was meant to be that way
But like I said in my own thread .. only someone who's gone through the aggro of doing one, knows what it takes to do a chopped quarter light .. and that feeling you get when you've finished, you open it for the first time and you think ... "I did that" ..
Good job mate |
I found more pictures of the home made pivot point for the vent windows.
