right im going to be swapping my standard fuel tank for one made out of a 15kg gass bottle.

im going to be removing the bottom rim and the valve gaurd, un'screwing the valve to be welded up then fittling a filler, breather and out let pipe

this will then be tucked up tight in the front end.

anyone elce done a fuel tank out of one of these?? and is a 15kg big enough mileage wise??

My tank is a gas bottle, works well.
I recon a 15kg will be ok,i can get about 40 quids worth of fuel in mine.
I also fitted the vw sender, which is quite accurate.

I know i'm stating the obvious, but be careful.dont cut anything until
you've opened it and filled it with water to get the gas out.

I cut the sender mount out the old tank, its just a thick steel ring drilled and
tapped for the sender.I welded it to the outside of the "new" tank to
keep it flat. All done with a mig.

I also welded the vw outlet spigot to the "new" tank so i could use
the vw outlet pipe that has the little filter in it.

Oh,and i bet your ring piece will be twitching when you make
your first cut biggrin.gif

haha it was a bit i nust say....
fiery1.gif fiery1.gif
had some goggles n gloves on so should it have gone bang ide have been ok haha

my plan is the same. im going to cut the filler and out let off my stock tank and graft them to the gas bottle. and hopeing to do the same with the sender ide like a working gauge if i can get it sorted.

it was a fun filling it with water thats for sure forceing the gas out, got bloody soaked smile.gif

just trying to think of a way of fitting it down in the front im thinking big leather belt but not sure it would be strong enoungh. my second idea is some rims that sit round the under side of the bottle and then bolt them down from under the bulk head.

on your tank what are the two caps on top one is a filler and the other.....??

The second cap is the fuel sender,at the time the pic was taken
i was using the old cable operated fuel sender which has a nice cap on it.

i'm now using the electric sender, and with a little bending of the sender
arm,it now reads correctly with the late speedo/fuel gauge.

mine holds down via two bolts welded to the bottom of the tank
and pass through boot floor and bolt from inside the car,and a bar
welded to the back of the tank and again bolting through the boot
to stop the tank rocking.

yea thats the sender i have is the later one but fitted into a older tank atm.

it sounds like im on the right path then, your way of bolting it down sounds more than enough, so ile be going with somthing along them lines, as its clear it works. ide like somthing like the brackets for the spun tanks that cradles the bottle but also gives u that flat edge to bolt down.

going to cut some holes in it today and mock stuff up then do all the welds at the end

never made a tank befor so fingers crossed it comes out ok.
