Sarah stood by the road looking up the long gravel driveway at the lodge, still unsure why exactly she wasn't walking up it to the door. It was a large wooden affair that brought to mind images of colonial times. The grass and surrounding shrubbery was green and inviting. The veranda made its way around all sides and it looked like someone was home given the plume of smoke that curled from the chimney.
Sarah shook her head for the fifth time trying to gain the courage to take the first step. It wasn't exactly that she was afraid; hell there wasn't really much that she was afraid of. But the thought of a hotel full of hunters who all hated things like vampires, demon's and especially shape shifters was kind of a little frightening. If one of them were to figure out Sarah's secret they would probably fill her so full of silver bullets she would rattle when she walked. But things were wearing thin and she needed a place to stay. She knew the Mitchell’s well and had stayed in he Lodge on numerous prior occasions. Only those times she had been with Declan and Emily. Had had her Hunter Father there to protect her and keep her from the suspicious eyes of his fellow hunters. So now here she was standing out the front of one of the few places that she was both welcome and unwelcome, unsure of wether to enter or leave.
Sarah bit her lip. “Fuck it!” She exclaimed more to herself than to anyone in particular. She leaned forward and lifted pack back to her shoulder. Sarah looked both directions down the street before she stepped from the curb and crossed road to the driveway. There were about ten cars in the Driveway. A few shabby beaten up pickups, and a couple of nice ones too. Sarah really didn’t know anything about cars. Her knowledge covered more which pedal made it go and which made it stop but that was about it.
The gravel crunched under foot as Sarah made her way up the drive. It kind of reminded her of one of those nightmares where you run and run but the corridor just gets longer and longer. But eventually she found herself standing at the large red double front doors. She raised her hand to knock on the door but before it touched the wood she lowered it and stood at the threshold still unsure as to whether or not this was a good idea. She knew that the Mitchell’s would help her out and let her stay for free, give her chance to rest. The wound in her back was still giving her trouble after all these months. Hell she was beginning to think maybe a piece had broken off in there and was causing all the discomfort. Here at the lodge she would have somewhere moderately safe to find out.
