This is some background for a marine chapter I might make some day, please tell me of any inconsistencies in plot and Marine fluff. Thanks.

The Great Crusade.

The largest military operation conducted by humans. Ever. And yet in this war of monolithic proportions, the seed of treachery grew...

Alpharius was the Primarch of the Alpha Legion, and he was a superb tactician. Horus knew this, the Emperor did not. Alpharius was the leader of the Alpha Legion, and was loyal to the Emperor for a time...

But like others, he betrayed the Emperor, and executed the members of his legion that did not want to join him. Our story begins here.

On that day, he announced to his warriors his true plan, and most, driven by loyalty and fear of retribution, sided with him. Except for one Chaplain Corydon, who saw the traitor for who he was, and left the planet with a handful of marines. Not without difficulty though, for in the process of escaping, he was mortally wounded, and the strength of his body grew dim.

Commandeering a chapter space vessel, he flung himself into a warp channel, and by the will of the fates, the on board navigator managed to set the ship down on a planet called Brimhaven, little more than a chunk of rock. Brimhaven is subject to large geologic faults that produce huge craggy mountains about every 300 years. There were no settlers on the planet at the time, but there was something else.

The Dragons.

On the day the warriors saw them, they took it an omen of good luck, for just as their hydra mascot, the dragons were scaled, powerful creatures that beat the air with huge wings. They also breathed fire.

But the 30 or so loyal marines could not stop the minions of Chaos, (once their brethren of the Alpha legion) from coming some months after the escape. Such blasphemous symbols and feeling of horror did they bring, that one of the larger broods of the dragon beasts came and smote the treachorous warriors with blasts of flame.

Chaplain Corydon, before he died, was able to witness the spectacle and decreed that each of the future generations of his new chapter's marines would breathe flame. How they would, he did not specify. The light went out in his eyes, and after almost 3 months of fleeing the Alpha Legion, he died.

The rest of the members were bewildered, and decided to go to Terra for help. They did not know of the titainc civil war the galaxy was about to be embroiled in, but before they boarded the ship, they knew one thing was certain.

The new name of their chapter would be... the Alpha Ghosts.

Soudns ok, but if they came from a CSM chapter then they would be hunted by the Grey knights, and if they breath fire, the Witch Hunters!

Well, in the furture, it should go in fluff. AKA Creative Writing.

Oh well...

I liked it! Very well thought out, too.

The Alpha ghosts arrived at Terra on an inauspicious day, the very one Horus had taken to attack the Imperial Palace.

The highest ranking marine left alive decreed that their duty was to help the loyalists fight. They landed without battle orders and set up station near an anti-aircraft post which ended up coming under attack by remnants of a Chaos battle group.

Miraculously, not one Alpha Ghost fell. Though the air around them filled with shot and shell, the Alpha Ghosts suffered no casulties. Many that hear them dismiss the story as one of a chapter trying to make itself look tough, but it is true. Towards the end, a chaotic champion charged the gates, but Battle-Brother Bonapartes barred the way with a whizzing chainsword. The champion prophecied that he would be the first one to draw blood from those certain Imperial defenders.

Not all prophesies come true.

Bonapartes took ahold of a fragmentation grenade and flipped off the safety. He never removed it from his belt. While the marine thrust his chainsword at the vastly superior chain-axe, Bonapartes leaped onto the champion, hugging him tight in a final embrace. The resulting explosion was such that it destroyed the champion, but Bonaparte was barely left alive, and had only seconds to live. It seemed he would not however, for the desperate hordes of chaos were rushing to fill the gap that the brave soldier had left open.

Then, all as one, they stopped. Heavy silence clung to the air, and they tried a futile charge but were driven back by precise bolter fire for the evil minions of an evil god had lost heart in this particular escapade, and Horus had died just seconds ago.

After the battle, such was the chaos of re-building that which was broken that not a single inquisitor or acolyte bothered to ask why this particular chapter had been reduced so badly, for the casulties of that siege were horrific and gene-stock from various surviving chapters was assigned to a chapter simply called the Alpha Ghosts.

Next: "And they shall breathe fire!"
Whenever I get around to it...
