Normally, it wasn't to Zander's style to go to parties, but it would have been even more unusual if he hadn't dragged Nikolai along with him; one of their friends, Jason Baroque, was currently celebrating... okay, so Zander had no idea what the guy was celebrating for, but he didn't particularly care either. Either way, he was on Nik's arm for most of the night, occasionally exchanging the idle peck on the cheek or lips... though he couldn't help but smirk when Nik pinched his butt with a playful smirk on his face. If the lack of normally brave would-be suitors coming after either of them were any indication, most of them had gotten that the two Russian boys were quite possessive of one another, and though Zan still found it amusing to fire up Nik's protective streak a bit every now and then, he was getting better at refraining... kinda. It was hard not to be flattered by Nik's seemingly insatiable need to make sure people knew that Zander was his lover, and he would grin to himself every now and then that earned him a look from Nik.

By the time they were ready to leave, it was probably close to one or two in the morning, the only reason either him or Nik were still awake being their being too preoccupied with other things to take much interest in the spirits available. It was much more fun to watch other people make fools of themselves and be sober enough to enjoy the show. Even if it was at the expense of some of their friends.

At the moment, Nik and Zander were walking alongside the cars in search of where they'd parked, the traffic as thin as it ever got with the hour of the night. Cocky, Zan ventured a little further out to cross, grinning as he looked back at Nik.

"It's a fifty-thousand-dollar piece of machinery, Nik. How could you forget where you parked it?"

Nikolai rarely liked parties. It was one thing to have to go because it was expected of him. Those types of parties, where he had to dress in a suit and "play nice" as Zander called it, was whatever to him - he could handle the professionalism, layer on the charm like nobody's business. But the informal ones were often far lacking. Such as this one, belonging to a friend of the boys' friends. The time could have been much better spent than this. They could have been at home. Doing things that were probably much more perverted, but definitely much more enjoyable than watching all these lightweights get trashed.

Besides. Giving Zan small previews of what he could have been enjoying fully at home was fun.

The blond shrugged his lithe shoulders, "It's black. You don't remember where it is either, though." He frowned to himself. He hadn't really lost the car, had he? And even if he had, did Zan really have to go running out like that in the middle of the street?

And then he saw it. Headlights, coming closer to them far too fast for his liking, and knowing that Zander didn't see them, he didn't even stop to think. Running on instinct, Nikolai dodged through the line of cars separating them, pushing Zander from the moving vehicle's path. The thought passed through his mind that Zander was okay, before he felt the crushing of metal against his side and felt the sensation of flying....god, he hated flying.

He was positive the car was on the other side of the street... they'd had to cross when they came in; what he didn't notice as he jogged across the lanes of the street, another car coming much too fast for the area, and it wasn't until headlights fell on him that Zander turned to stare at the car. A forceful shove that could only have been Nikolai forced him out of the way, making Zander stumble into the concrete center divide of the road, and he heard his own voice scream as the sickening sound of metal meeting bone was followed by the screech of tires as the driver slammed on the brakes. It would be a long time before he forgot the sight of Nik's body hitting the ground like a rag doll.

Zander didn't notice as the driver staggered drunkenly out of the car, far too preoccupied with Nikolai and running to his seemingly lifeless form and looking frantically for any kind of sign he was okay. He was breathing, at least, but even in the dark of nighttime he could see a black puddle fanning out under his boyfriend's head; shakily Zander picked Nikolai up, cradling his upper body against him carefully as he tried to use his shirt to stop the bleeding from the back of Nik's head.

"Nik..." He whimpered, fighting the feeling in his stomach that made him want to throw up at the sight of blood, "Don't die, Nik... you can't die..."

The party, having heard the ruckus outside, had all wandered out to hear what was going on; he heard someone talking on the phone, probably calling 911, though it would be a while before he heard anything else around him for hoping that an ambulance siren would come. In the meantime, he absolutely refused to let Nikolai go.
