Warren Alexander Buffett II used to be a ladies man. Francesca Amelia Thurston used to be very independent. They both swore they'd never ever marry. He never wanted to get attached. She didn't want to depend on anyone but herself. Things, however, changed the day they met each other. July 15th at the Grand Thurston Hotel in New York, that was the day they met. It was unlikely for such people to fall in-love but they did. After two years of dating, they decided to get married. Three years later, while Alexander was handling the family business in Great Britain, Delilah Louise Buffett was born. The moment they saw her, they knew that this baby girl will make them proud someday.
Delilah Louise Buffett has been dealing with expectations all her life. It started with her parents and relatives. She was always expected to be the perfect daughter; after all she was the only child they had. They had so many dreams for their little girl. That's probably the reason why at the very young age of three, she was enrolled in ballet and gymnastics. When she turned six, her parents made her take piano, acting, and voice lessons. When she turned eight, she has visited almost every place in Europe. She was trained by her parents to act classy and elegant all the time. She was home schooled until she was ten, and that's when her parents decided to stay in New York for good.
Her father, however, was hardly home. She asked her mother about it and she only told her that her father had expectations to meet, and that if those expectations were not met the family business might go down the drain. Although her parents' marriage was going strong, she started hating expectations for taking her dad away from her. He was there to give her whatever material thing she needed, but he was rarely there physically. She started admiring her mother for being strong after hearing a lot of rumors. Despite what other people said, she had faith in Lou's father. She believed in him. Bella can't believe that her mother could believe in someone so far away. How her mother believed in her dad made her believe in him as well. That's where she probably learned how to be strong when tough times come. She learned that tough times don't last, but tough people do.
When she studied in a real school, she had to make adjustments. She wasn't used to having so many people teasing her because of her accent. At the first few instances of being bullied she was just crying. She remembers locking herself in one of the bathrooms just so that she can cry out the pain she felt. She never did anything to them because she remembered what her mom told her about expectations. However, when the girls mentioned her father cheating on her mom she got furious. She remembers humiliating the girl who said those things about her father in front of a lot of people. She learned from that experience that she has to stand up for herself and the people she cared about the most because sometimes you've got nobody but yourself to rely on. The girl cried, and they never bullied her again. She gained respect from them, and soon they befriended her. They became friends, and soon enough she became popular. She liked being popular.
Popularity, however, comes with a price. She wasn't allowed to hang out with her old friends just because they were classified as losers or nobodys. Expectations got the best of her again. She talked to them only when the popular people weren't there. She hated how things were, but she can't do anything about them. She had a reputation to live up to. Time came when she had to be really mean to them. She liked it at first, but then hated it after. High School came, and she was still living the same life. She talks to average people but wasn't allowed to really hang out with them. She still hated expectations, but still had no choice but to live up to them.
