That's our Safety problems solved; A 34 year old guy let go by the Dolphins! To be fair I presume Sprano must still rate him for us to bring him in, but we need a mobile coverage guy and he's not that. We do have a little back-up at S with our low end draft picks, but I'm almost as worried about this as I am with Hunter at tackle.

I think that move is to back-up Landry who has a habit of getting injured, but who is playing FS? We seem to have about 5 SS and no FS. I hope Antonio Allen gets the job, although again, he needs to work on his coverage.

The coaching staff is really biggin' him up this off-season, I'm not sure what to make of that.

Exactly Cubbie, who is going to play FS? We already know how badly we need safeties who can cover the Patriots TEs from last year's games, and I'm not sure we've done much/anything to improve that area.

Apparently the answer is Bell, Cimini saying he was signed as. Starter to play with Landry. He's an upgrade over Smith for sure, but he's not going to shut down Gronk or Hernandez.

Me or you would be an upgrade over Smith! I don't think Bell is the worst player in the world, apparently he's good at calling the plays in the backfield, but he's not the type of safety we need. At least we're trying something new at safety, hopefully it'll work out with those two. It's better than not addressing an obvious area of weakness like RT. Free agency seems like ages ago now, but I don't recall there being a huge amount of talent available at S and obviously the draft didn't have much in the way of starters for this season either.

There was absolutely nothing in free agency at the safety position and the draft had some developmental ones but no elite ones. So it was probably a good idea to get a couple of veterans in on one year deals and then take a safety to develop, or in our case two. Josh Bush and Antonio Allen....more excited about Allen than Bush to be honest. Next year I'm not sure who will be available in free agency but the draft looks to be stacked at the position if everyone declares.

I didn't really know much about either of them until reading up about them after the draft. I do like that we've got a plan in place for that area of the team. It's funny though, I've been reading your draft reviews for players next year, and so I was having a think about the obvious areas of need and they seem to be linebackers and safeties again (along with RT) but the defence is supposed to be the strength of the team. Do you think we're a bit too occupied with looking at defensive players in the draft? Other than RT I wouldn't expect us to take an offensive player in the first two or three rounds again, yet we really aren't that good on that side of the ball.

Having said all that, we may have such a poor year offensively that TE, RB, WR and maybe even quarterback will be on the agenda.

I watch quite a lot of SEC football so saw a ton of Antonio Allen. Was really impressed with him although he played as a hybrid linebacker/safety so didn't drop back into coverage all that much, but he has the speed and instincts to do so. Holding out hope for 2012 as a developmental year leading to bigger things in 2013. I have no idea about Bush, but I spoke to the guy who runds the Wake blog and he said he'll be a good special teamer and part time player but doesn't see him as a full time starter.

I think the thing is that we do have a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball, but the underperformance has been attributed to Schotty's schemes, numerous motions and pre-snap audibles that must have made it tough on Sanchez. This is a big year for them though, we could either finish the year with only one problem at RT....or we could finish it with a problem at RT, RB, TE, QB and I guess RG as Moore isn't getting any younger.

As much as we all love to blame Schotty there's still a pretty good chance that a lot of guys on our offense haven't been playing to their potential. It's going to be really interesting to compare Sanchez and Bradford this year. If Bradford were to have a great year and Sanchez a poor one, I don't much fancy his chances in the future with us, despite the new contract.

I'm really looking forward to seeing Allan and Ganaway in pre-season, especially. I'd assume our first three picks we will see plenty of action during the season, but those two might not so much. So it's going to be fun watching them.

Oh I'm still not buying Sanche as a franchise QB, I think a game manager is his ceiling. I think in 2012 we'll run the ball so much, Sanchez will put up decent if unspectaular numbers. I think he'll be our QB for 2012 and 2013 but after that it's anyones guess.

Coples and Wilkerson on the line will be really interesting, I think we'll run more 4-3 sets this year. Wilkerson/Pouha in the middle with Coples and maybe DeVito on running downs and Maybin on passing downs on the outside.

There is a ton to watch out for in pre-season and I actually can't wait for OTA's to start on Tuesday.

The Dolphins are on Hard Knocks and then they go and sign Ochocinco, surely not a coincidence? Who made that signing, HBO? biggrin.gif

Bit of a no risk move for us I feel, we need a receiver so he is worth a look and see what he has left.

Didn't really do the job in NE but he never really fit into there gameplan and just wasn't used.

If we can integrate him in then it might be a sound pickup for a few catches a game and stretching the field a little.

Don't have a problem with the signing.

Yeah, it's not a bad pick-up under the circumstances. At least he's a proven target. Who do you want to start opening day at QB?

A lot will hinge on preseason I think, If Tannehill does well in the games when the starters are in then we might as well throw him in at the deep end and start what we hope will be a long career as our QB.

However at this moment In time I'd start with Matt Moore to begin with, let Ryan Tannehill learn a bit before putting him in there midway through the season if were 2-5 or something like that and out of the races which is most likely.

We'll see what happens in camp but one way or another I'd expect come Thanksgiving Tannehill will be the starting QB.

I thought Moore did well enough last season to be the starter on opening day, he quite impressed me, and if you do put Tannehill on the first day you don't have obvious targets for him to throw to just yet. Having said that it'll probably end up being Garrard starting! I did read he was getting some first team reps the other day.
I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Tebow vs Tannehill by the time we meet in week 8. Sanchez had some awful numbers in 11 vs 11 practise the other day.
