Went to see the Avengers last night and I thought it was brilliant. I always enjoy a good superhero movie, and I thought they managed to balance the various characters very well indeed. Easily the best use of the Incredible Hulk in a movie so far - in fact Avengers assemble is probably the best Hulk movie even though he is only one of about 10 main characters.

The whole thing was genuinely funny and an excellent watch. Just a ridiculous amount of fun.

Side note - I saw it in 3D, and the 3D stuff was just awful. Bad screen or sitting in the wrong seat is a possible, but it really was rubbish.

Only ever seen one movie in 3D and I don't get what the fuss is about. It's a hassle and often more expensive.

Looking forward to seeing The Avengers as I've had my eye on it for a while. Might leave it a few weeks until the crowd at the local cinema dies down, though.

I thought the Avengers was brilliant too. I'm not a huge fan of 3D so I just saw the 2D, very rarely is a movie enhanced with 3D. Thor being an exception to that rule lol. that was fantastic in 3D

Seen a couple of films over the last few films, first it was Avengers in IMAX which was amazing. Thinking about going to see it again as it was that good, loads of action and pretty funny too. Also saw Silent House last night, I really thought it had a lot of potential but it just seemed way too rushed and the character or story wasn't developed nearly enough. In the end it made it quite a poor viewing which is a real shame.

I watched Dark Shadows last night (somewhat against my will).

Didn't laugh once, seemed to be one of those films where they put all the best stuff in the trailer.

I imagine great for kids and Tim Burton fans, although not really my cup of tea.

Ps slightly frustrated I had to go and see this - I wanted to stay in and play MLB2k11.

This new gangster movie looks really good - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gViqCxibW6A
The cast is fantastic, Ryan Gosling, James Brolin, Sean Penn etc.

Any thoughts on the Dark Knight Rises? I enjoyed it but it failed to live up to my expectations following the previous joker-inspired movie. I liked Bane as a villain and thought Hardy did a decent job. Hathaway was fun to watch as cat-woman.

Will be interesting to see if they let "Robin" become a replacement batman going forward, but I know Christopher Nolan has said he isn't doing any more Batman movies anyway.

This new Star Wars trilogy is going to be awful, isn't it? The sad things I'll still be pre-ordering tickets for opening night.

Oscars last night with a real mixed bag of winners:

Best film - Argo
Best Actor - Daniel Day Lewis (for the 3rd time - first time that has happened)
Best Actress - Jennifer Lawrence
Best Director - Ang Lee
Best Supporting Actor - Christoph Schultz
Best Supporting Actress - Anne Hathaway (well deserved IMO)

Feels odd to see such a spread of winners and no one film dominating the bigger categories.

I still haven't seen half of the above movies, so can't really get a feel for what was/wasn't deserved.

Anyone seen Argo? Worthy of best pic?

Yes, I've seen Argo, which is a great movie, though the best film I saw in 2012 was Zero Dark Thirty, totally gripping and unforgetable, followed by Seven Psychopaths, Skyfall, and the Bob Marley documentary film. I also liked Prometheus, The Hobbit (though not as much as I'd hoped I would) The Cabin in the Woods (which scared the bloomin bejeezus out of me, and I don't scare easily) and The Master. I hated Django Unchained almost to the point of leaving half way through, and the biggest disappointment for me was Lincoln, even with Daniel Day Lewis being the best actor around, and Spielberg virtually flawless as I director, I found it dull. Good year for movies, though I didn't see as many as I used to see.

I did stop watching half way through, although at the time I hought it must have been three quarters of the way through! Far too long, unbelievable story line, poorly directed, somr of the acting was good though.
