Hi everyone,

My name is Tim and I live near Canterbury in Kent. Found this site a few weeks ago and finally got round to signing up.

Been following baseball since 1999 when I was 11 and went to stay with some cousins in St Louis. They took me to see a game and even though I didn't really have a clue about the rules or what was going I had a great time.

Cardinals fan for the above reasons, so I've been pretty lucky the last decade getting to watch albert and 2 world series winning teams. Also a big fan of the Blues in the NHL so am geared up for the playoffs right now and take a passing interest in the Rams and have my ticket booked for wembley next year. In the UK I follow Fulham.

Managed to get back to St Louis with my family a couple years ago to see a couple interleague games against the Tigers so I've seen both old and new Busch Stadiums. Also been to Rogers Stadium in Toronto and managed to get to Fenway and the new Yankee Stadium with a friend in 2010.

Enjoyed reading through the threads over the last few weeks so I'm looking forward to chatting with you all over the course of the season.

Thanks,
Tim

Welcome to the forum StL Tim. It's a great site with plenty of things to talk about so hope you enjoy it here.

You're lucky to have been to a fair few ballparks, I've never actually been to a alive game but hopefully will get to one soon!

You must have really enjoyed last year's World Series then. Game 6 was one for the ages, I'll never forget those closing innings and the heroics of Freese especially biggrin.gif

Hope all is well & enjoy it here again!

Welcome

We don't have many Cards on here, which is strange considering how successful they've been the past decade

Last years world series was a cracker, check out our gameday threads on here, last years WS ones are still there we had some good nights last october.

You'll like it here for sure

thanks for the welcome everyone. Yeh last year was one hell of a ride. Seemed to be so many setbacks right from the start with wainwright going down in spring training but it all just clicked at the right time. Had given up on even making the playoffs with a month to go and then to clinch wildcard on final day and make that postseason run was just incredible. And that game 6, well you couldn't have made it up! biggrin.gif

Yeh I'm lucky to have the realtives in st louis and canada that I've been able to visit. Hopefully get to make some more trips soon, san francisco and baltimore are high on my wish list of stadiums to visit. Definitely go to a game if you get the chance, its great to see live.

Thoroughly recommend going to St Louis, tends to get overlooked as a place to go because its quite a way from any other big cities but theres some great stuff to see there. Ball park is really nice too and a great atmosphere. Should be a good battle between reds, cards and brewers all year for the central so there should be plenty to talk about!

Welcome Tim, I'm going to St Louis in august to catch a few games and wanted to know if you took a stadium tour and if so, is it worth booking a ticket, and is there anything else in the city that I need to see?. I have pre booked the paddle boat trip on the Mississippi and the journey to the top of the gateway arch.
I would appreciate any feedback you can give me.
Cheers, Steve.

Hi Steve,

Sorry I didn't do a stadium tour so I can't tell you what thats like. It is a nice stadium though and the franchise has plenty of history to talk about so I would think it is pretty good. There used to be a Cardinals Hall of Fame museum but its closed at the moment. They unveiled plans in 2008 for a 'ballpark village', a big area surrounding the stadium with shops, bars, restaurants etc. and a revamped museum. Unfortunately the funding all fell through and the construction hasn't really got going and the plans have been massively scaled down.

The arch is really good, though not if you're claustrophobic! The capsule you go up in is cosy to say the least biggrin.gif Theres a good museum at the base with a cinema showing a film about how the arch was made and also a load of exhibits about the role St Louis played in expansion across the US including the Lewis-Clark expedition.

What sort of things are you looking to do? Is it just you going or are you looking for family or children friendly things to do?

Hi Tim, I'm going alone and it's mainly for the baseball, but i like to take in everything a city has to offer. I am also a 30 year old lad who likes a beer so good bars would be handy. I'm stopping in the omni majestic hotel which seems very central in the city, so should be easy to get around. I have nothing planned on the Friday, so I will use that time finding my feet around St Louis and finding some good bars, Saturday is boat and arch day with a game with the Brewers at night. Sunday I have nothing at all to do. Monday, game at night with the Giants. So I have a bit of time free which I need to fill. I will take the tour on the Monday I think, that will kill another pair of hours. so if you can't think of anything else for me, I will probably get a ticket for the Sunday game.
Thanks for your help Tim, I appreciate it. Steve.

Check out this site for a bunch of info on the city:

http://explorestlouis.com/

you could take a tour of the Anheuser-Busch brewery, most famous for budweiser.

http://www.budweisertours.com/z01/index.ph...louis/overview/

If you're after more cultural stuff, head to Forest Park where the larger museums and attractions are.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Forest_Park_(...ouis,_Missouri)

The City museum is pretty good and a bit different as well.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_Museum

In terms of nightlife if you're staying in downtown you should aim for Laclede's Landing which is an area around the river front with a bunch of clubs, bars and restaurants.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laclede%27s_Landing

If you like a bit of a gamble as well then there are a couple of gaming boats on the river and a big casino just over the bridge across the river into Illinois.

Hope that helps
