Dontrelle Willis has announced his retirement at the ripe old age of 30, sad but not that unexpected.

His violent action was always going to cause him problems as he aged and his body thickened; I was hoping he'd be able to modify his delivery and come back strong, but it wasn't to be.

I wonder if he'll consider trying to switch to being a position player, as a pitcher he wasn't shabby with the bat.

As many on here will know Dontrelle was my favorite Marlin from 2003 until he we traded him to the Tigers after the 07 season

Was really hoping he could turn things around but it just never came, he had a few decent starts when he looked like maybe he might be finding something like his old form then would relapse again.

Gal is right he was a very handy hitter, He actually batted 7th for us once, he also hit a Grand Slam and went deep twice in one game, think it was in 06 or 05.

Sad day hop he can find a role somewhere, wonder if we can find him something to do coaching wise or as a team ambassador type roll int he community.

That is a real shame, unfulfilled potential. I remeber when he arrived on the scene he looked like he could well be a superstar in the making, alas the delivery that made him famous was probably also his downfall.
A great pitcher on his day and a big enough man not to moan and make excuses for his later struggles.
