Title: Maury Willis

A amazing article about the hook slide perfected by Willis, well worth a read. You need to go into mlb archive news to get to it ,but it's worth it. It does ask the question though .....head first or feet first into the base on a steal?

http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...ws_mlb&c_id=mlbOh and for the record, I'd slide feet first, don't have the bottle to go head first! :o

It's when he talks about a knee coming down on your neck that helped me make my mind up! :o

Feet first into 2nd and third for sure, so you have a better chance to avoid oversliding, the so called pop up slide. Another advantage, of you succeed in 'popping op' is that you're in a better position to take advantage of a miss-play if there's a chance of further advancement.
Anyone who slides into first either way, unless it's to avoid a sweep tag, need their head examined.
Sliding into home si different again, as you only need to make contact with the plate, oversliding isn't an issue.

Christ, the amount of deep heat used after a game ...
MUST be propping up the company.

Surely feet first gives you more momentum ? Throwing yourself head first into a slide is taking off speed and control on the first impact ,no?( runs off and practices on grass out side house.)

Well, there is one thing I overlooked with my previous post; Rickey always slid head first. Given a choice between believing me and believing the greatest base stealer of all time, who do you believe! Henderson 1,406 stolen bases, me zero, no contest! :D

Holy crap! (runs back out to garden and practices sliding ....crashes head first into the shed.)

See, if you'd slid feet first you could have popped up and run home whilst the shed recovered form the shock!
