Title: Opening DAY 5-4-12

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 04:51 PM (GMT)
Redsox Tigers for me obviously

doobs - April 5, 2012 05:04 PM (GMT)
Got the Mets and Braves on now, it's been too long!!

Go Mets!!!

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 05:09 PM (GMT)
The Bobby V era begins.

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 05:16 PM (GMT)
Comfortable 1,2,3 for Verlander -

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 05:18 PM (GMT)
Nice double play there - Go Sox - No score bottom 1st two out

Tijani - April 5, 2012 05:22 PM (GMT)
I'm watching a bit of the Tigers-Red Sox game. That was a nice play from Youkilis to end the first.

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 05:33 PM (GMT)
0-0 after 2 excellent set of pitches by Verlander to Ross to end the 2nd. Red Sox leave one on third

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 06:02 PM (GMT)
I'm enjoying this - nice bit of tension 0-0 after 3

0-0 across the board I see at the moment

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 06:17 PM (GMT)
Watching Lester strike out Fielder (looking) was nice. 0-0 after 4. This is building nicely!

Any runs out there?

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 06:19 PM (GMT)
Nice pitching duel here, 0-0 through 4.

With this on the tv, i've got Phillies-Pirates on the pc, another 0-0 going there.

Runs at a premium this afternoon

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 06:44 PM (GMT)
Yes indeed - close games.

The fifth was tense but Lester out of the jamb - 0-0 after 5. Verlander looking good but I'm very happy with thew Lester's pitched despite putting so many lead offs on base

Not a run in sight anywhere else still!

Tijani - April 5, 2012 06:46 PM (GMT)
This is certainly an exciting day for those who enjoy pitching duels. 4 games are ongoing and we have 0 runs so far.

MadHatterBlues - April 5, 2012 06:48 PM (GMT)
Watching the Cubs.

Not going to be many runs at Wrigley today. Wind is HOWLING in. Strasburg with a 7-pitch first inning as Cubs hitters swing at everything. Could be a long year...

Note - Bill Murray was there to throw out the 1st pitch. Before doing so, he ran the bases and slid into homeplate :D Love that guy.

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 07:03 PM (GMT)
Lester done I presume. 87 pitches six innings - 3 double plays.

0-0 after six. Good stuff.

Mets get a run I see. Ist of the day for anyone!

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 07:03 PM (GMT)
This is my ideal day of baseball, lots of good old fashioned duels. Lester just got through the 6th, hoping they'll try and get another inning out of him.

Might flick over from this phillies game to Cubs-Nats, watch Strasburg pitch, just waiting for Philly to score, then it should be game over.

I think that might be it for Lester. That was a tough last inning. Good game though.

Very impressed with Lester, considering he is usually awful in April, if he starts well, he genuinely can put a career year together.

Now just have to score off Verlander, who isn't too bad himself.

MadHatterBlues - April 5, 2012 07:08 PM (GMT)
Strasburg will be pitching a complete game at this rate. 14 pitches for the first 2 innings. Hitting 95-97 and struck out Marlon Byrd with a filthy breakingball.

Dempster is scuffling like he did all last year, but somehow unscathed so far...

Black Country Tribe - April 5, 2012 07:16 PM (GMT)
Tribe Jays underway. Masterson gets 1st 3 out.

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 07:22 PM (GMT)
Wow, Tigers lead 1-0, Avila doubled in a run on a 3-2 pitch. Lester was absolutely robbed on 1-2, then 2-2, the pitch on 1-2 was clear as day i thought.

Barney1975 - April 5, 2012 07:24 PM (GMT)
How is the lack of power going to hurt DC?

The Nationals have left 12 players on base in the first 3 innings.

That is all.

<_<

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 07:24 PM (GMT)
He was robbed!!!! 1-2 especially

Hope his heads OK - good outing all in all.

Come on Red Sox - lets see some runs now

Hard to judge power today. Strong wind blowing in. Zimmermann would have had a HR in the 1st on a calm day.

In the game - Soriano caught stealing 3rd base for the 2nd out in a 0-0 game

Barney1975 - April 5, 2012 07:30 PM (GMT)
Marlon Byrd drives in Ian Stewart as Stras hangs a curveball. 1-0 Cubs...Ball returned by LF Mark DeRosa.

That's LEFT FIELDER Mark DeRosa. :o

Barney1975 - April 5, 2012 07:46 PM (GMT)
Bloody hell. Jack Hannahan smacks a 3 run homer, the first of the MLB season (in North America) off Ricky Romero, who your scribe has in the fantasy league team. 4-0 Indians.

How many guesses do you think future trivia buffs will need to correctly answer the 'First player to homer on the US mainland in the 2012 MLB season'?

Black Country Tribe - April 5, 2012 07:48 PM (GMT)
Super Jack Hanahan hits 3 run homer in 2nd. Kotchman gets Santana home. Brantley doubles. Monster innings for Tribe. Bullpen activity for Jays.

4-0 after 2.

doobs - April 5, 2012 07:58 PM (GMT)
Mets Win!! :D

Barney1975 - April 5, 2012 08:01 PM (GMT)
Detroit's gone awfully quiet as Valverde blows the save, gives up a 2-0 lead in the 9th with Ryan Sweeney driving in Darnell MacDonald to tie the game at 2-2.

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 08:02 PM (GMT)
Red Sox rally in the 9th and give Jose Valverde his first blown save in 52 attempts. 2-2 mid 9

REsult! Well done Mets

Barney1975 - April 5, 2012 08:17 PM (GMT)
Guess what happened when Masterson hung a slider to Bautista?

Here's a clue, it's now 4-1 Indians. ;)

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 08:19 PM (GMT)
Lost 3-2, Austin Jackson with a walk off single

The great Jose still only level with Super Jack Hannahan in HR race. Gonna be a close one :D

er...no Good game though. Tigers were good.

Over to Cincinnati now for me

Adam31 - April 5, 2012 08:31 PM (GMT)
Kerry Wood has walked 3, the last walking in a run. 1-1 in the 8th.

Barney1975 - April 5, 2012 08:32 PM (GMT)
Bases loaded in the top of the 8th after Zim and LaRoche work walks. LaRoche on 9 pitches. Impressive off Kerry Wood.

So it's down to Jayson Werth can he get the run home or will he add to those 5 players already left on base?

Well, he walks after Wood loses the strike zone, 1-1 in DC. Wood may have been unlucky with that last pitch but he's let Werth go there after starting out with two strikes.

Wood finally gets a curveball over the plate and that's enough for DeRosa to groundout and stop the bleeding at 1-1.

Otherwise known as crapping the bed :(

Got squeezed a bit on a couple of calls, but seemed a bit wild throughout. Shame for Dempster, but gonna need some offense from somebody now!

Rabscallion - April 5, 2012 08:34 PM (GMT)
Votto gets a hit in the bottom of the first (thats about a cost of $145.56)

Reds 1 up after 1

Black Country Tribe - April 5, 2012 08:36 PM (GMT)
Masterson retires 8 straight since being taken long by Jose. Turning in quality performance. 1 blip.

Still 4-1 bottom of 6th.
