Hi gang, hopefully Mike will get the site up again tomorrow, I imagine his server has crashed, not much we can do right now except wait.

I gather Cubbie and/or Lee has E-Mailed Mike, so I'll leave it for now.

I havent Gal, not at home and don't have his email saved online, don't think Lee has, so if you can get in touch.

I havn't Gal, I don't have the Address and I couldn't think of it and Cubbie gave me one which he thought it was but it came back as not recorgnised.

Bad news, just received notification from MAILER-DAEMON that they couldn't deliver the E-Mail. That probably means that the server has crashed completely.

Anyway, I'm off to bed, catch you guys tomorrow either here or on the home site.

Not good news at all, lets hope he can sort it out for us.

I know nothing about server and all that, will he realise that its crashed or will the only way he finds out is if he tries to visit the site which he dosn't do often.

Ours isn't the only site that the server hosts, if it was I think it would have closed down long ago. The fact that it's now 1pm and it's still down is a concern, must be something major for it to still be out.

Been out for around 19 hours now, Think it went down at 5:00pm yesterday.

So he definitely will be aware the the server is down

Worst case scenario is that the Hard drive on the server died, although I imagine Mike would have been using some form of RAID, it can still take time to restore everything. If it was a truly major disaster, then he may have to set up a new server and restore from a previous back up. That might have to be done by segments, and I'd guess our site is pretty low priority.

I recall that we said that we'd wait three days before switching to here on at least a semi-permanent basis, and hopefully most of our members will have marked this site. Quite a few of our regulars obviously did, or followed trails that Lee and Cubbie left elsewhere.

So, if things haven't changed by Thursday does this become our permanent home?

I think we leave it as long as it takes to get the other site up, just keep using this place until we have access.

Don't think we have to make this the permanent home of things are not done by Thursday. Just the temporary home while the issue is resolved, and if it isnt't then it will become the permanent home by default.

Yeah I sort of agree with Cubbie, in that I'd give it as long as it takes to get back up and running.

If it doesn't or we lose a load of stuff or whatever then this site will become the site.

However I do feel when/if the new site comes online we should bring up the issue about a 100% move over here permanently again and see what the opinions are

That site though would jsut be so hard to let go of, 5 Years I've been a member on there.

One thing to bear in mind is that we can't just shut down the other site, we'd effectively be setting up in competition with ourselves, but if access becomes too erratic we may be forced into doing just that.

I agree with Cubbie and Lee that we should give it time to get the other site up and running. As has beeen said it isn't a priority so may take a bit longer than expected.

What puzzles me is that I don't get an error message, no Site not found, or anything. The browser jsut spins it's wheels and just stops with the address in the URL and a b lank page. As if it's found the site but there simply isn't any content; very strange.

Is it the same for everyone else?

The other forum is such a one off, I don't think I've ever seen one like it sionce.

This one is just as run as the mill as you can possibly get, but its alright, with a bit of colour and brightening up, a proper logo at the Top ETC i'm sure we cn make it a nioe homely place

I think you summed it up there Lee, UKMLB is one of a kind, and why we have probably kept a core membership for years. So that's why we should wait as long as possible and not entertain the idea of moving if it is posisble to stay.

Understand where you are coming from though, sure we could make this place better if we are forced too.
