Interview

1. When and why did you start watching GH?

I've been watching GH for a very, very long time. I was watching GH back when Laura first met Scotty. I went through the whole Ric/Monica/Alan/Leslie quadrangle which was perhaps one of my favorite GH story arcs so I guess you could say I've been watching GH since the late 1970s, early 1980s.

2. First Soap Opera you watched? First Couple in it you loved?

My very first soap if you can believe this was Dark Shadows. I loved Barnabas and Angelique.

3. Favorite Jason and Sam scene/moment?

Hmmm... favorite Jasam scene/moment. Only 1? You're asking me to answer the impossible. LOL

Well Sam's baby dying is always high on the list since those scenes were so powerful. I remember crying like a baby during that time and Kelly and Steve just brought a level of believability and intensity to their characters and the story that made you feel the loss and sorrow at your soul level.

If I had another favorite moment (I know you only asked for one but as I said, impossible with these two), it would be Dominoes and Tequila. There was such a spontaneity to their acting in those scenes. I mean it was passion personified with comedy inserted. I especially loved with Kelly accidentally spit on Steve while talking and who doesn't love drunk Sam!

4. What would you like to tell your fans?

Oh boy...what would I tell the fans. Another hard questions as I would like to say so much. I guess most of all I would tell them that they've given me the kind of support that makes doing this so worthwhile and that they have given me courage every step of the way to write when I didn't know it was in me to do so.

5. What made you want to write Jasam Fan Fic?

As I just said, I didn't know if I could write. It's something that I've always wanted to do but wasn't sure if I could. Long ago when I was about ten I wrote a bunch of poems in a journal. That was the extent really of my writing outside of non-academics. Back around 2008 - 2009 when Jasam re-united I'd been kicking around the idea of writing a children's book based on an idea I'd come up with but I couldn't seem to get it started.

Well after the fall out from the SOS didn't play out the way that I thought Guza was angling for with Jake's paternity turning out to be Lucky's, I thought about writing it myself. I talked it over with Larine whom you all know, along with some others and they encouraged me to give fanfic a try. So based on how I thought the story should have gone, I started Twilight Serenade and the rest is as you say "history".

6. What is your writing process?

My writing process is generally about seeing something onscreen that has/had potential but doesn't wind up playing out the way I expected it to so I write something or write the characters as I think they should be written.

I've also get story ideas or story chapters/arcs from music. If I hear a song that I think screams Jasam/Jason/Sam, I let the lyrics inspire the writing. There have been times when I've chosen a song that I think fits Jasam and I'll listen to it as I'm writing and the words just fall into place. When I wrote the ending chapters for Twilight Serenade with Sam's dead baby helping her or when Jason was stabbed and the baby appeared to him, I listened to the song as I wrote it (and included it in the chapter) and as I did so began crying so I knew if it touched me in that way it could touch those reading it as well.

Another process of mine is to write out the chapters in long hand before I type it up on the computer. Don't ask me why I do it but I do.

7. Most writers are big readers. If so what do you like to read?

Seeing as I'm a school teacher, most of my reading has been relegated to education and curriculum related material. However, currently I've been reading a compilation of twenty-one oral histories of former North Carolina slaves called My Folks Don't Want Me to Talk About Slavery by Belinda Hurmence.

8. Do you read fanfic? If so, what authors do you read?

Of course I've read other author's fanfic and sometimes it's left me blushing and it's also inspired me in my own writing. Just to name a few I've read Soapfan4Now, Imgoodbackup, Jade, and MichGHFan's work. Fanfic writers, imo are bad-ass writers and no joke.

9.What's your favorite thing to write, and why?)

I'd have to say poetry was my first love and favorite form of writing. It's been that for me since I was a very young child. Being an only child, writing poetry/poems provided an outlet of expressing myself to someone because I didn't have siblings to confide my feelings to.

10. What's your least favorite thing to write, and why?

What do I hate writing? Report cards. Need I say more? LOL

11. What advice would you give to aspiring writers?

My advice???...Good Lord...I'm new at this!!! Okay...well I can only give advice from my own experience I suppose so I'd say...write what you're passionate about whether it be a soap, a cookbook, whatever it is be passionate about it otherwise you'll get stuck, bored or fatigued by it. But if it is something you're passionate about or believe in...it will draw you to it, even when you might think you have nothing else to say or write.

12. What is your favorite color?

Periwinkle. It's kind of in the lilac, lavender family and kind of irridescent

13. You recently nominated and won Best New Writer, and Best Villain how did you feel about receiving this nod?

SHOCKED! And I'll admit I'm feeling a little intimidated by the attention. I mean I just wanted to write what I thought Jasam lovers wanted to read. But at the end of the day I'd have to say what I most feel is honored and very happy that what I write makes others happy too.
