We’ve picked up the old (since August ’05) TxG board and rebuilt it over on a new server, ZetaBoards.

What is ZetaBoards?

Basically, for those too lazy to read the Wiki, ZetaBoards is a new forum engine based somewhat on Invisionfree, what with a similar style of mechanics and features, but more up to date and, obviously, with much more to offer.

With Invisionfree being outdated, those of us in charge here made the decision to transfer the board over, keeping this one as an archive.

Basically, this board now functions for three purposes, all three summed up by the three visible categories on this board:

1) Announcements

This URL has been around the internet for several years, and many members have come and gone with the time. Some have returned, only to vanish again…many never came back. Those of us loyal ones who have stayed have tried to keep it as active as possible. We’ve all told our friends about it, advertised in TxG, DBZ, and generally Yaoi-oriented communities…surely, if this board were to be moved with no explanation, users would stumble upon a board with no new posts and probably think the community had died…and naturally, we don’t want that to happen.

To make this all-important thread eyecatching enough that this doesn’t happen, it’s been given its own category and forum to display at the very top of the board, so new or returning members will not have to waste a second before being informed of the changes.

2) Redirect Link

Of course, it would be simple enough to supply the link right in this thread, but there are many people who would be too lazy to read this thread completely, and (especially due to the nuances of the board skin) bypass the link to the new board. That would cut the new member ratio of the new board down if new or returning members stumbling upon this board didn’t know how to find the new location. Thus, the second visible forum on the page is the redirection link to the new ‘Zeta TxG’.

3) Forum Archive

For us old members, especially those of us who have been around since the beginning, the thought of losing anything from this board was simply unacceptable. However, encouraging people to return to the new board would become difficult if the board was left intact here, or locked from new posts with an explanation lazy users may not spend the time looking for.

So, to make the board look more convincing of “hey, we’re not dead, we just moved”, all the original forums have simply been marked as hidden – they no longer exist in the board index, but if you know the URL, you can still access them. Using this feature, said URLs were given redirect forums named for each original forum category, so users can freely browse the old topics without worry, while those yet unaware of the move could come across the board and note right from the index that something has happened.

Finally, all forums have been converted to read-only archives, and new registrations disabled. This is to better ensure that absolutely no one gets confused when they return to the Invision TxG, and will know immediately that this board is no longer functional as anything other than an archive.

But regardless of the finer details that went into archiving this board, just as much was put into making the new location as welcoming and inviting as possible.

We’ve had a great four years here at Invision, and we’ll never let go of those memories.
