COMMON ROOMS AND DORMITORIES;
Gathering places for each house placed in various locations throughout the Castle, each common room and dormitory is decorated with House colors, although laid out in different formats. In the dormitories there is just enough room for a four poster bed and a bedside table for each student, the trunk stored at the foot of the bed.

CORRIDORS & STAIRCASES;
Used to navigate the vast expanses of the castle, the corridors are decorated with suits of armor and portraits. The niches are frequently used as hiding places, and a number of secret passage entrances are hidden behind portraits in them. The staircases (142 in all) are a challenge of their own. From moving stairwells, trick and vanishing steps, and mysteriously appearing stairs, the navigation of the castle can be quite challenging.

COURTYARD;
a large open square surrounded by covered walkways and the castle itself, the courtyard is a central meeting place for the student population. due to the proximity of the castle, students use it in all weather conditions. in winter, it's a key location for snowball fights.

THE CLIFFS;
hogwarts, built on the rise of a cliff, is set some hundred feet or so above the surrounding areas. the cliffs have stairs carved into them for students to use when coming to and from the school. however, the more adventurous students find themselves playing on the rocky incline. one can frequently find a measure of peace and quiet on them, too.

THE YARDS & WHOMPING WILLOW;
the vast expanses of lawn that are employed for recreational use by the students. there's enough space to avoid being crowded, though everyone gives the whomping willow a wide berth.

THE LAWNS;
primarily used as a location to teach first years how to fly, this flat, grassy expanse is surrounded by the castle on two sides. when not in use for flying, students frequently are found throwing quaffles around, or doing homework here.

THE BLACK LAKE;
nearly half a mile in diameter, the lake is located south of the castle. the boathouse is concealed on its shores though for those who know of it, it makes a convenient hiding place for those who seek to avoid the gamekeeper, ogg. swimming is permitted, though both the year-round cold temperatures and the inhabitants of the lake, tend to deter such things.

GREENHOUSES & GARDENS;
numbered one through four, the greenhouses keep a number of plants for the school's use. greenhouse four contains the most deadly that's housed, and is off limits to those without permission or within a class. nearby, the vegetable gardens grow produce for the school.

THE FORBIDDEN FOREST & GAMEKEEPER'S HUT;
located on the edge of the forbidden forest, the gamekeeper's hut is where ogg lives. his proximity to the forbidden forest is meant to deter students, though the bravest of them aren't held back by the knowledge of the deadly creatures that live within the woods.

QUIDDITCH PITCH & LOCKER ROOMS;
large enough to seat the entire school population, the quidditch pitch is used for games, practise and tryouts, which are all open to the public for viewing. locker rooms are located below ground underneath the stands, and are restricted to players. each house has their own, and they're divided by gender, though compared to the boys' three showers, the girls' one is paltry in comparison.

THE GATEHOUSE;
found south of the black lake, the gatehouse is built along the road that goes from the hogsmeade train station up to the castle itself. carriages will carry students from the station up the path, through the gatehouse and then proceed north along the road on hogwarts grounds up to the castle itself.

locations throughout england have long since been popular for established families to live in. many pureblood have estates in wiltshire, and in both ottery st. catchpole and little hangleton you'll find a muggle community living in close proximity with a magical population. godric's hollow is a location that's been the home of many famous wizards for more than a thousand years.
