It was no secret that Jon had trouble staying too long in one place. Back in the old land he was for sure a traveling merchant – always on the move in search of new costumers, supplies and good deals. Here he had been strongly encouraged by his Jarl to stay within the borders of the Skjöldung clan, but all of his kinsmen knew that wouldn’t happen for long. Jon really tried to keep his steps to the Viking-areas though, as both the Ylfings and Völsungs had been trading with him from time to time. But the same roads got old, and people’s interest faded when they saw him too often. They started haggle on the prices and didn’t take his “now only”-offers too seriously anymore.
Besides, even though most of his kinsmen saw the Amazons as hostile and threatening Jon couldn’t help but wonder if they all were that way. After all – wasn’t all women that way, Amazon and Viking alike? Females weren’t to be trusted in general, whatever they called themselves. And everyone needed stuff now and then, right? He was sure the Amazons had traders too, and Jon was ready to expand his market.
This morning he had headed out with just that in mind. Not bringing his carriage of course, that would have been way too risky. No, it was just him, his leather bag and Floki – his loyal dog and companion. Where exactly he was headed wasn’t too certain. Nor did he care. The important thing was that it was a new way, one he hadn’t gone before. At least he would have a little adventure, see some new surroundings. The man had been going for quite a while and begin to grow tired in his legs. He decided to stop for a minute, throwing a stick for Floki.
The dog eagerly ran of after it. It went pretty far and Jon saw the dog disappear into the woods. He didn’t have a doubt in his mind that he would soon be back though. Suddenly he felt a tap on his shoulders, and quickly turned around. It was a woman standing beside him. An Amazon. Their distinct look and outfits were unmistakable. Even though she seemed like a warrior she didn’t look too hostile – at least not yet. Jon took a small step back. “Hello,” he said, rather slowly. Did they even speak the same language?
