Signy Olvirsdottir
Name: Signy Olvirsdottir
Name meaning: Who knows what her father had in mind...
Gender: Female all the way
Age: 19 years young
Current Location: Ylfings Clan
Occupation: Unemployed
Character PB: Sophia Myles
General appearance: Being something like a princess, Signy's appearance is tended to exceptionally well in order to keep her presentable at all times and situations. Never know when dear papa will decide to marry his precious daughter to some barbaric freak from another clan. As she is not a warrior and thus sees no combat, Signy's skin is unharmed, save for several minor scratches here and there as a result of her numerous escapes from home. She's not a large person, not vertically or horizontally, but rather slim, athletic and agile, standing at approximately 5′ 6″ high.
Clothing: As the daughter of a Jarl, Signy dresses in the finest of clothes, some of which are especially tailored for her. She often wears expensive jewelery to math her fine garments. Nobody knows, nor is it anyone's business what she wears underneath those gorgeous clothes, but it's safe to say that whatever is there is just as charming. She never wears masks or any headgear since that would hide all the effort she puts into her hair and face. That's all just one side of the coin, however. It flips when she's out on her own, usually escaping from home. During those times, it's not unlikely for her to be caught wearing a shorter outfit to minimaize restriction for her legs. Boots are also very likely instead of formal shoes as well as some form of head cover to avoid recognition. Whatever she does, wherever she goes, whatever she wears, the dagger she was given by her father is always with her.
Personality: Signy is generally a nice girl, polite and appropriate. Thanks in largely to her overprotective father, she sees very little of the world's evil, therefore she isn't adept at dealing with it whenever encountered. She detests violence, which, she is certain, her clan finds strange, given that she is the daughter of a great Viking warrior. Don't mistake her for a saint though, she can be quite the troublemaker as well, but not without a reason or necessity. She's far from being so naive as to believe everything and everyone and she's certainly not a fool when it comes to mind games. She does try to approach matters differently than her father, who prefers to settle business through sheer brute force, which probably isn't so bad when you're so big and powerful as he is. Of course, when it comes to combat, Signy will always do her best to avoid it.
What concerns her mother, Signy had lived a long several years with the idea that she was at fault for the death, but eventually came to understand that there simply was nothing she could have done in favor or against it. She feels sympathy for her father however, and wishes he for him to find another woman with whom he could share his heart, but unfortunately as the years go, it seems less likely to happen. She hates that her father is so hellbent on being a merciless murderer, but undoubtedly understands his pain and grief. She loves her father despite everything, and appreciates his efforts to keep her safe, but on occasion he can go a bit too far with it, hence her attempts of escaping home, mostly successfully.
History: What was supposed to be a celebration turned into a disaster, instead of joy there was sadness and grief. Signy was born healthy and quite loud, but het mother, unfortunately, passed away immediately afterward. Signy's father, Olvir, was hit the hardest. He's a leader, warrior, and above all, a Viking. He was and still is a difficult man and it's not every day that such a man falls in love. He was torn and broken when his wife died, and became angry and at times even frightening for his daughter. He didn't unleash his hatred upon her however, even if she blamed herself for her mother's death, Olvir never did. Signy was treated like a priceless, precious jewel, spoiled with infinite love from her father, who had been her entire world.
Sadly, father's love had one single flaw: freedom, or rather the lack of it. Signy was pretty much imprisoned within her clan's borders, never allowed to venture far and explore on her own. When she grew a little bit older, her limits became slightly wider; she was permitted to go out, but only under the supervision of several bodyguards. She didn't mind it at first, but eventually she came to desire a certain extent of privacy, which she was never given except during bathroom trips. A couple of years later father decided it was time for her to learn a little bit about self-preservation, so even at home she wasn't completely in control of her schedule. First it was swordsmanship, than bow and arrows, and eventually survival in the wilderness. She couldn't, and didn't want to complain, because the skills she was taught were no doubt useful. In fact, she encouraged more training, especially when it came to building agility.
Her father never suspected that she was extremely interested in improving her physical "maneuverability" for the sole purpose of one day being able to escape from the cage she was put in, until it was too late. Signy began sneaking away from her father night after night, to explore the outer world on her very own. She was caught a couple of times, but she always knew how to "soften" her father's punishments.
Upon turning 19, Signy was given a gift by her father. It wasn't exactly what a growing girl would expect, but she accepted it with strong enthusiasm. It was beautiful dagger, and a real, sharp one at that. Truthfully, she was glad he didn't go out of his way to buy her a ridiculous dress, or even worse: find her a husband. That dagger meant a lot more to her; to her, it meant that he acknowledge his daughter as a warrior, or at least a person who deserves to be more than a common housewife. He probably gave it to her simply because he couldn't find anything better, but it didn't matter, she loved it nonetheless.
Family: Olvir Bloodaxe, Jarl of Ylfings Clan (Father)
Skills: Signy's best skill is probably to charm her own father. She can make him do practically anything, from gifting her whatever she wants to not punishing her for causing trouble. That aside though, Signy's next best talent is her agility. She had made sure to train a lot in that field since it required nothing less than utter dedication in order to escape from her father's home undetected. Climbing trees, squeezing through narrow passages, you name it, she can do it. When it comes to physical confrontation however, she's less than inspiring. She was trained in swordsmanship, but she just lacks the fighting spirit. It isn't hard to overpower her, but to do that, one would first have to catch her, which is much more difficult, and after that, the captor would have to put up with her not-so-submissive attitude. It wouldn't be surprising if the captors themselves pay money to anyone who would be willing to take this girl off their hands. Yes, Signy maybe isn't powerful, but that certainly doesn't mean she can't do her best. Signy is also an excellent cook, a gifted artist, and an amazing drunkard. Surprisingly, she can drink more alcohol than some of the larger men. That probably is passed down genetically from her father.
