One of the main gripes I've heard about this book is the fact that it's three perspectives - Nat, Kitty, and Barty - and there's not enough of our favorite djinni to go around. I missed Bartimaeus's parts, but I thought it was rather refreshing. What'd you think?

At first it made me kinda dissapointed reading it first time around. I couldn't stand the Kitty flashbacks, and I found Nathaniel becoming such a loser. But on that last night in the climax, I forgot all complaints and devoured the text. And when I re-read it, I found I didn't mind the Kitty parts so much. Strange..... smile.gif

It didn't seem like the book was seriously lacking in Bartimaeus fun. I mean, there was LESS of course, but it was still...THERE, you know? And actually, I found that the parts where Kitty or Nat were dealing with Bartimaeus, and we got to see Bartimaeus through their eyes, to be some of my favorite parts.

Yeah, it seemed like some of Barty's best parts came when he wasn't the narrator. Although it wasn't particularly funny, the first one that comes to mind is his discussion with Kitty where he convinces her to go after the golem.

Yes, yes! There's also the huge thing they get into about history repeating itself...and one of MY favorites comes before it, when Bartimaeus, Natty and Jakob are in that room, and Barty's bored off his rocker. Aztec games and hair cuts...oh, yes, that was a fun part.

By the way, thanks for that review on my one-shot, it was very appreciated! Nitpicking's fine, great in fact. But really, you were one of my inspirations to write Bartiameus fanstuff. You're amazing at it.

I didn't even really think about the Barty parts when I was reading it. I was thinking - "Oh God, I want to see Nat and Kitty square off." Barty's parts I loved but sped through because they usually slowed down the story. However, now that I've been rereading, they really stand out because I know what happens and am not rushed.

You're welcome. biggrin.gif I have far too much spare time, it seems. I don't leave many reviews for the main reason that I have this impulse to make it long-winded every time I do.

I wanted more Braty scenes, and I didn't want as many Kitty Scenes. I guess Kitty's background was important to thew story though so it's fine.

While I was reading it I thought that the Bartimaeus parts were to few and far between. I thought it was perfect, though, re-reading after I read the third, because (obviously) I knew what happened in that book and why.

I actually really liked Nathaniel's parts in this book. His interactions were hilarious, and it was interesting to watch him become more and more corrupt.

The three perspectives took some getting use to. At first Kitty's scenes, although important, were kinda slow. But by the end all of the 3 POV's were fine. I think that happens in any book when one of them is doing something exciting and then you switch to someone else who's not doing much...

When I first read the Golem's Eye, I loved Bartimaeus's parts the best, of course, and I would skim over Nat's parts and skip Kitty's completely. But when I finished the book I realized that I didn't understand anything that had happened, so I re-read it and this time, read everything.

Kitty's were boring in the beginning and got better in the end. I thought they were great in PG, but that's a different book.

The parts that especially loved about The Golem's Eye, Is the scenes in which Bartimeaus narrates, as well as those comical little footnotes, some of which were really awesome. smile.gif I found the flashbacks of Kitty's past an excellent way to learn about her more, how she came to join the resistance, etc. All in all, I liked the parts where all three characters were joined together.

I don't have any complaints about the perspective. It's fine as he wrote it, though I wish there was a Nat persp. at the end, which would mean he'd be alive, which would make a Nat/Kitty romance, which would make me so happy, and which would make me stop saying 'which'.
