Lesson one.

[Shadow]

"Okay class we are about to start the first lesson for Transfiguration! We are going to learn about making a creature larger. I have a jar of Praying mantises for us to enlarge. I'll put the jar on my desk for everyone. The spell is Engorgio. Now please say 'Engorgio' without your wands." Said Nick Hitsomatsue.


*Nick grabs a praying mantis and says "Engorgio" and the Praying mantis starts to grow to about 6 inches tall*

[Aiden Quarwen]

Aiden looked around at the class as they all just stared at Mr. Hitsomatsue. He got out from his desk and was the first one to receive a praying mantis from the jar. He returned to his desk and stared at the creature as it held it bug like gaze on Aiden. Aiden quickly took out his wand and looked at the board where in big bold letters, "Engorgio" was written. He began to say the word in his head and remebered how Mr. Hitsomatsue did it. He then looked down at the mantis again and lifted up his wand pointing it right at the mantis' head.

Aiden Quarwen: Engorgio!

Aiden looked at the bug as it began to expand. The only problem is that it wouldn't stop. He looked around worryingly and ducked underneath his desk. A soft pop was heard and when Aiden looked up from under his desk he saw Mr. Hitsomatsue looking at him. There was pieces of the exploded mantis on Mr. Hitsomatsue's robe, and pieces all over Aiden's desk. With a shy smile, Aiden looked at Mr. Hitsomatsue.

Aiden Quarwen: Sorry about that Mr. Hitsomatsue. It grew bigger....but it wouldn't stop, and then it just...exploded?

Aiden looked at Mr. Hitsomatsue with a puzzled expression as the rest of the class stared on. Aiden clutching his robes tight hoping someone would stand up for him in his defense.

[Shadow]

"Its fine! It happens to a student here or there."Said Hitsomatsue, then with a flick of his wand he cleared all the bug guts away.

"Five points for whoever gets the spell right first." He said casually.

[Xandar]

"SIR!" shouted Xandar from the back of the room. "Ehm, this doesn't hurt them, does it? If it does, I stand for the little dudes. Hurt'n bugs ain't cool, myan." He then stood up to reveal a sign he'd made at some point tied to his back reading, "Save THe tReeS, Eat a CoW!" bad punctuation and all.

[Shadow]

"No xandar... It has a small timgleing sensation but thats all." he says.

"How I know you ask? I can transfigure into an animal and I had the headmaster enlarge me! Now get back on to your Work." He said lasily.

[Aethie]

Aethie waved to Aiden as she entered the classroom, and a second later she ducked as flying bits of mantis went everywhere. She came up laughing, pulling a praying mantis claw from her hair. "Engorgement Charm, hey? I can do those!" She pulled out her wand enthusiastically and said, "Engorgio!" The praying mantis in front of her swelled utnil it was about two feet tall. It stopped growing and stood there, looking stupidly at everyone. Aethie turned her blinding smile on the Professor, proud of herself.

[Aiden Quarwen]

Aiden looks on as Aethie did the spell perfectly. He looked at his desk with the bits of the mantis everywhere and flashed his wand as everything was cleaned. He walked up to Mr. Hitsomatsue's desk and grabed another praying mantis. He went back to his desk and held his wand tight and closed his eyes. He was picturing how Aethie did it and how Mr. Hitsomatsue had done it. He opened them slowly as he looked at the innocent praying mantis.

Aiden Quarwen: Let's hope you don't explode....Engorgio!

Instead of growing this time Aiden's mantis got smaller. It eventually stopped and now it was the size of an ant. Aiden put his head down in shame and looked around at the class. Most of the students had gotten it right, and Aethie had done it perfect. Why could not he do it perfect also. He began to watch the amazingly small praying mantis explore the wood of his desk.

[Xandar]

And then, yet another of Xandar's mantises exploded. The third one. At least Aiden wasn't killing the little buggers. "Yo, ehm, sir?" Xandar asked. "If this is a side effect that can come from doing the spell wrong, then I feel that it's not really a safe spell. Is there any way to do such things as these without even possibly risking the safety of the little dudes?" He tried on a fifth mantis, and actually got it right. "Uhm, actually, dude, nevermind. I think I figgered out how to do it, it's no longer a threat, and therefore I can now just uhm... Well, nevermind. I'll think to myself." He then proceded to shut his gob and continue with class.

[Aethie]

Aethie noticed Aiden looking ashamed that he'd gotten the spell wrong. "Hey, don't feel badly, Aiden...you're just moving your wand wrong." She demonstrated the wave. "You want to hold it high, then bring it down and kind of jab it at the object as you say the spell." She smiled encouragingly at him. "Try again!"

[Aiden Quarwen]

Aiden looked bac at Aethie with a confident smile and a sense of thanks as he raised up his wand. He looked around at the class watching him seeing as he had exploded a mantis and shrunk one with his first two tried. Aethie gave Aiden another run through of what he had to do and he looked down at the small mantis. He raised his wand high and brought it with a jab, he then opened his mouth timidly and spoke the magic words.

Aiden Quarwen: Engorgio!

He closed his eyes tightly after speaking the word hoping that it worked. He slowly open his eyes to see that the mantis had not been effected at all. A expression of puzzlement went across Aiden's face.

Aiden Quarwen: What'd I do wrong this time?

[Aethie]

"You need to say the spell like you mean it," Aethie encouraged him. "Visualize the mantis getting bigger and say the charm with confidence. Here, I'll show you again." She jabbed her wand at the mantis and said, "Engorgio!" forcefully. The mantis swelled. She grinned at Aiden, and then waved her wand again. The mantis shrunk. "Now you try!"

[Aiden Quarwen]

Aiden looks down at the mantis then over at Aethie and the breathes out a deep sigh. He once again raised his hand up high and jabbed at the mantis.

Aiden Quarwen: Engorgio!

The mantis slowly swelled and then stopped. Instead of making it like all the others Aiden made it slightly larger.

[Aethie]

"You did it!" Aethie beamed at him. "See, all you have to do is have confidence in yourself!" She gave him a friendly punch on the shoulder and, seeing Xandar staring at her, frowned slightly. "I can't stand that guy," she whispered conspiratorially. "He acts like he doesn't even care about school!"

[Aiden Quarwen]

Aiden looks over at Aethie and nods slightly before putting in his say about Xandar.

Aiden Quarwen: I think he has had it rough. It has to be harsh being somewhat vampire. Plus, maybe he has more important things. But i do have to admit he can be quite a handful having him in class. He's killed more mantis' then i have.

Aiden frowns at the last statement he made cause he realized it was true. He then looked over at Aethie.

[Safirah]

Sahirah walked into class with a puzzled expression as she realized how late she was. "Oh great.... oh dear..." she mumbled to herself. "Sorry, I got lost!" she apologized, blushing as she stepped farther in to the room, not daring to meet anyone's eyes.
