Personal History: ChildhoodLily was the miracle child of Valentin and Cecillia. Ceci was told she couldn’t have children after a car accident nearly killed her when she was a teen. She and her husband were both surprised when Ceci wound up in the doctor’s office thinking she was sick. It was safe to say that the doctor was shocked as well. But they had to be cautious with the pregnancy, for which Celi took every precaution to make sure they could bring their beautiful bundle of joy into the world.
Once Lily arrived, her parent doted on her, giving her whatever she wanted from the time she took her first breath. They noticed that she caught on quickly to information as well and began teaching her at home even before school began for the child.
Once Lily started school though, it was quickly discovered that she had a knack for numbers. Math was an instant favorite subject for Lily because she could accomplish it with ease. As she grew, she excelled in the subject and the schools had her entering tournaments.
Other than that, Lily had a fairly normal childhood, apart from her desire to curl up with a good book rather than play with the neighborhood kids, even though she made friends easily. Lily did better in smaller groups and that seemed to be perfect for the little girl.
And that little girl had begun to develop a plan. And she would stick to that plan as much as she could.
Teen YearsLily’s teen years turned a bit awkward as teens could be cruel, teasing her for being smart considering she had skipped ahead in school by a year and she was the youngest around. She found herself a bit overwhelmed at times due to more students and many girls who weren’t as awkward as she.
The boys made her feel ever more awkward. At first she wasn’t as shapely as many of the older girls but one boy had caught her attention as she found him watching her in the halls, and at lunch. She had no idea what to do about it. She had occasionally smiled at him but then she never found time or the courage to walk up and say hello. She was far too busy for that. It just didn’t fit into her plan. She knew what to expect as long as she could stick with her plan. For a while though, she questioned her priorities because she found herself liking his smile. But he never came up to her either and she was far too unsure to approach him. Her plan was still intact.
UniversityBy the time she reached University, she had chosen to major in accounting, a young woman’s dream career when you have a love for numbers. She once again found herself intrigued in her classes, and her love of learning was sometimes contagious. Classmates flocked to her for help and as much as she was embarrassed by all the attention, she lent a hand when she could.
She ran into him again, the one with the smile for her each day when she was a teen. The halls were crowded but she knew it was him. This time though, he was bolder and his grin came closer, freezing her in place. She hadn’t expected it but he approached her in the halls and finally introduced himself and apologizing for not speaking to her before.
The surprise of how much he appealed to her was unsettling at first. But Gedeon Dachev had already captured her heart from the start and from then on the two were inseparable. With his encouragement, Lily breezed through school, graduating with a master’s in accounting and he a degree in Business.
After school lifeUpon finishing school Lily was offered position in a small accounting firm in town. She loved it from the start, the smaller the better in her opinion. She and Gedeon decided not to get married, though they did find a small house that would accommodate them and they settled into busy lives, only seeing each other in the evenings and early mornings.
A few years later Lily found out something that neither she nor Gedeon were prepared for; something that would change their lives. Lily was pregnant. It terrified her, especially since they were in the height of their careers. Her new plans with Gedeon were already falling apart. But once again, her heart surrendered to this unborn child and she began to love it. The feel of the baby inside of her was like nothing she’d ever felt before. And before long, she had made a new plan.
However, once again, that unsettling change came to destroy those plans once again. Gedeon decided that he was not ready for children. After many days of talking about it, agonizing over it, they both decided to call their relationship off. After all, Lily didn’t want the tension around the child once it arrived. As much as it hurt to let Gedeon go, her baby came first. Gedeon did however help with the money, and for that Lily was thankful, even if she really didn’t need it, it was still for the baby.
Once Matai was born, he became her pride and joy, she even a bit of time off work to raise him. By the time Matai was 18 months, he was already getting very sick and this had Lily very distressed. They’d spent countless hours in the hospital doing tests. Finally it came back that her little boy has a mass inside his head, something that they couldn’t operate on because of placement and it was growing. There was nothing they could do for the little boy and it broke Lily’s heart. With her parents support, along with Gedeon’s, Lily was able to get through what little time she had left with her baby boy.
After a little time to allow herself to grieve, Lily threw herself back into her career only to find that she needed a new start. Somewhere different, somewhere away from all the reminders of her life as it was, a
whole new start
During her search, she ran into someone at a little coffee shop who was telling her about a new firm that opened up. It was a few towns away but it sounded like heaven to the accountant. She could start a whole new chapter to her life, a whole new plan and so she moved, taking what she was able to fit in her car and found a little apartment, saying goodbye to her parents, and even to Gedeon who wanted her back. But she couldn’t go back to that part of her life.
She had applied to this new company as soon as she arrived, not bothering to unpack first. Lily met this acquaintance again in the office and was surprised to find out that they already knew who she was. They’d heard of the woman who excelled in her studies and the career that she had made for herself and knew she was the right one for what they wanted.
Lily found herself moving again, unsure and unsettled but excited all the same. She wasn’t even sure what she was getting into until she arrived on the mountain; or under it rather. She was scared and intrigued at the same time as well, a mixture of emotions that she couldn’t figure out how to handle, until she was ready to get back to work.
She worked with the funding of Ithaca, keeping track of every penny they spent and what the government gave them. She found herself getting back in a routine, enjoying the new life she had made and the new plan she had developed. Making friends with some of the other staff members and smiling again.
But once again, that plan was shattered when the disasters hit. She could only think of her parents as they were shut inside the facility and once again, her spiral down into uncertainty was mind-blowing and frightening. She had barely gotten to talk to her parents once she left home and now, she may never get to speak to them again. How was she going to handle her life now? Her plans kept failing. So maybe they weren’t going to work now. Planning wasn’t going to work now and she had a struggle ahead of her with how to deal with that.
