The Drunk Duck Awards, 2011, 17 nominations...what could go wrong?

Yeah, so this years DD awards did not go entirely to plan for team Hark.

I got a lot of nominations, 17 all told, so it seemed that simply by the law of averages I was bound to win some stuff.

Ummmm....yeeeeeah.

I drew a cool page to present the best humour award!
(Though I made a couple of typos....gimme a break!)

Unfortunately, things then kinda went down hill.

I won pretty much fuck all!
I even lost best Anthro!
That got won by a hard core skunk porn comic (no seriously, check it out -

I did win one award, most improved art.
This means the only person I have beaten is myself from last year.
God damn.

On the plus side, the awards were a lot of fun and my avatar made cameos freaking EVERYWHERE.
So anyway, El Cid posted this funny extra comic (which you will need to read to understand whats coming next.)

That's too bad. You lost Best Anthro to porn? Well, to be honest it's disappointing that you lost in that category, but unsurprising that it was to porn.

And I don't think I'd be so mean to an 8' talking cat in plate armor (who may or may not be drunk) and carrying a shield heavy enough to crush the crown of my skull down to my neck.

What about you possibly ingesting Dr. Argon's urine? I thought that was hilarious.

I haven't read Zander's Saga (or whatnot), at least, not seriously. I've probably taken a peak at most of the fantasy genre on the Duck.

I remember that bit about "sex magic". Yeah, remember Chronicles of... Prydwyn? I'm probably mangling that name. Interesting discussion we had about that in the Web Comic Review Comic On The Web. I still think it is plausible, but..... not exactly well. Eh. Maybe I'll take a more in depth look at this one, if only to complain more, but maybe not as well.

The Fantasy category was interesting. I understand why the reviewers had a hard time there. That Stopping the World Comic didn't strike me as fantasy, at least at first. Then I began to see it (I haven't read the whole thing), but a totally different type of fantasy than Harkovast.

I had a load of other fun cameos and bits, I am working on a montage of them all to post in the fan art area.

Gotta say, that 3D render of your avatar is awesome.

Best anthro went to porn? Well, we all know what furries are best used for, so it has a nice back-to-the-roots feel.

In all honesty, if we haven't read it I'm not sure we can judge.

Hell, I'm not interested in reading it, but I am more than able to acknowledge my bias. I'm bound to think that Harkovast should have one. I still do think that. But I have to put out at tentative "but"... I just don't know enough about the other one. Apparently porn can have a good storyline?

I suppose. It all depends on the author/artist, and how much emphasis they put on the plot being compelling and story making sense.

This award did seem to conform to all the worst stereotypes of the furry fandom.
After all my work to make furries seem classy, something like this comes along and sets it all back.

Drunk Duck doesn't have a head office, but if it did I would suggest some violent shenanigans to show them just how wrong they were about allowing Harkovast to lose (a la [/I]Die Hard[I], therefore only the European branch of Harkovast can participate in the operation, as accents are mandatory).

I can do a pretty good Scottish Accent, I'm told. And I do try my hand at Russian sometimes...

But seriously. I don't know if it was as bad as it sounds. I mean, porn generally means... useless and nasty. But as Renard said, it depends on the author.

But, Hark, I've got absolutely no interest in "furries" or whatnot. I really don't. I do, however, like stories, which anthropomorphic animal things can come into nicely. You have a good story that you tell with anthropomorphic animals.

In all honesty, I don't really like the idea of an Anthropomorphic category anyway. It can cover almost any genre or setting... it is so wide ranging that there is actually little point to it.
