Throughout the site, mainly in the family trees and canon claim, you'll see various letters and numbers of asteriks, or carrets.


Magical Ability

AA+: Incredible
AA: Very high
A: High
B: Above average
C: Average
D: Below average
E: Very little
F: Near-Squib
S: Squib

Anything below D is very unlikely to get into Hogwarts; purebloods who rank below B are usually considered as weak, whereas muggleborns who rank at a C are very strong for their blood group. Half-bloods rarely get above A, and part-bloods don't see much past a low A, the exception being the Brocklehurst line.



Blood Purity

*** -- Pure-blood
** -- Half-Blood
* -- Part-Blood
^ -- Muggleborn

A person's blood rank is determined by their father's rank; if no one can be certain of the father, it is based on the mother's.



Belief System

pb+ -- an ardent pro-blood supporter who endorses all tactics, no matter how radical, to remove muggleborns
pb -- a person who is against muggle influence on the wizarding world; also, a person who enjoys whatever blood rank they may have for the benefits that it brings them
pb- -- a supporter of pro-blood tactics, and likely for some removal of muggleborns

bn+ -- a near pro-blood; wants the muggleborns to stay out, and might go beyond "they'll take care of themselves" tactics
bn -- a witch or wizard who enjoys every benefit that comes to them via their rank, but really couldn't care what they do with the muggles as long as the muggles stay out of their way
bn- -- generally, someone who would never think of rocking the boat, and enjoys having rank, but is a little sympathetic to those below them

ab+ -- someone, who although against the blood class system, is likely to do nothing about it
ab -- a person who stands against the blood class system; they range from simply being against it to actually wanting to do things to get it out
ab- -- an individual who is completely against the blood caste system, and either despises the whole system, or plans on acting out against it.
