The Entrance Hall
Opening the double oak front doors the west will gain the traveler a view to the large, cavernous room. It is lit by torches; with a ceiling so high it's barely visible. Wide marble staircase opposite the front doors leads up to first floor. Double doors to the right lead into the Great Hall. On the east wall are two doors, one on either side of the staircase. To the north of the staircase is a door leading down a flight of steps to the first dungeon level. To the south is a door leading to the Hufflepuff common room and the kitchens. On the left is a door leading to a smaller antechamber where First Years wait to be sorted.

The Great Hall
The Great Hall is a vast chamber with an enchanted ceiling that mirrors the sky outside. Four long tables for the four houses. Closest to the doors from the Entrance Hall is Slytherin, then Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and next to the far wall, Gryffindor. The teachers sit at the High Table, a table on a raised platform at the front of the room. A door behind the staff table allows a person to enter the Great Hall from outside without going through the main entrance.

Located off the Entrance Hall is a long panelled room filled with mismatched, dark wooden chairs and a large wardrobe known to be the home of more than clothes. However, the entrance to the room is not as simply as you may think. Two smart-mouthed stone gargoyles guard the room.

Transfiguration Department
As you climb the steps of castle Hogwarts, doors stay doors and the portraits continue to speak. However, once you reach the fourth floor, heading down the north corridor, you will find a change. Walking through the double brown doors, students will be swept up in Transfiguration. Portraits of famous transfigurators line the walls, calling out to students to listen to their stories and watch them in the act. The corridors, which make up the Department, meet in the center. Within the center is a large collection of books, busts, and tapestries all devoted to Transfiguration.

The Library
The Hogwarts library contains tens of thousands of books on thousands of shelves. Included in its many sections is an Invisibility Section, a section with information about dragons , and a Restricted Section at the back, set off with a rope. A signed note from a teacher is required to peruse that section of the library; it contains books of Dark Magic only used by older students studying advanced Defense Against the Dark Arts. One of the books in this section screams when opened.

The Owlery is a circular stone room, rather cold and drafty, because none of the windows has glass in them. Headmistress's Tower
The entrance to the headperson's office at Hogwarts is behind a statue of a gargoyle. When given the proper password, the gargoyle will leap aside, and the wall behind it will split in two to reveal a spiral stone staircase that moves like an escalator. Once in the door, visitors ride on a spiral stone staircase that moves slowly upward as the gargoyle's entrance closes behind them. The staircase leads to a highly polished oak door with a brass knocker in the shape of a griffin. The oak door opens into a large and beautiful circular room with windows, at least one of which faces east with a view of some of the mountains surrounding the castle. The windows also afford a view of the Quidditch pitch. The walls of the office are covered with portraits of previous Headmasters and Headmistresses. The wall immediately behind the Headmaster's desk has a shelf holding the Sorting Hat. Gryffindor's sword is kept in a glass case beside the Sorting Hat. Another wall of the office holds a fireplace that can be connected to the Floo Network when needed.

Detention Hall
All students that misbehave shall be sent to Detention Hall to serve hard time under Attila Bathory. Some think that going to Azkaban would be a better alternative than spending time in Detention Hall.

Hufflepuff
Down a staircase off the main corridor of the castle, the loyal house of Hufflepuff can be found. The Hufflepuff Common Room lies behind a still life painting. Behind the painting is the passage way to the common room. Filled with comfy chairs, couches, and small chess tables, Hufflepuffs can gather within their common room and discuss whatever their hearts desire. Founded by Helga Hufflepuff, this house turns no one away.

Slytherin
Lit by greenish torches, the Slytherin common room stretches under the lake, welcoming the serpents back to their own part of the dunegons. With a few couches, chairs and tables, Slytherins can find plenty of room to practice their... magic. Founded by Salazar Slytherin, this house is best known for its cunning minds.

On the grounds close to the castle the flying department can be found. The building appears to be an extension of the castle and inside the department brooms and quidditch supplies are found laying about all over.

Herbology Department
Entering under the arch doorway lined with vines, students will find dozens of glass buildings. Inside the buildings, vines run all over the walls and tables line the wall covered in dirt and broken pots. This is the Herbology Department. Walk with caution. Some plants aren’t friendly.

The Forbidden Forest
To the east of Hogwarts castle is a large, dark forest. This forest is strictly off limits to Hogwarts students, except in the course of occasional Care of Magical Creatures lessons or detentions. The forest is thick with trees, & is home to a wide and strange assortment of creatures. Anything wild and dangerous that needs a place to live is put there. Any other person who has entered it, however, has emerged hoping never to enter it again.
