Cool, never been there ....yet . I was supposed to have had a job there once but the boss got into some other trouble and sold the property. The job went with the land....
I was trying to explain the difference between Breton and Cape Breton to a friend the other day. I managed to confuse him enough that he got on Google and researched it. He was showing me some pictures of some fiddle camp up there. Looks like a fun time. I do something similar in WA every September. That 5 days a year is the defining event of my life. So is yr Dad still fiddlin as well? |

You also got a list from Bob? I'd prioritize the tunes that show up on both. Unless you find something you already know. Don't try to learn 'em all next month. I tell everybody that asks: Learn ONE tune. Then learn another one. Then learn another one. Bob practices 3 hours per day and picks up a new tune every week. I only add one when I get an earworm, and forget to document them.

I didn't get a list from Bob, he only had his there. So I'll just start with these - I practice three or more hours a day - but on the piano as a school requirement. Probably means I won't have that much time for my fiddle and all.

Well, see if you can get "Lark in the Morning" and/ or "Wind that Shakes the Barley" unless you see something you already know. maybe Drowsy Maggie, because you know they'll get played. You will have noticed that we play just about anything, so you can teach us yr own stuff, if you don't get time to learn anything.
Strangely, for all my moaning about overdone tunes. "Flowers of Edinburgh" is one of the first "real" tunes I learned and is still one of my favorites. Do you do .abc? I have most of the French Stuff in that format. Thought I might send you a couple of tunes. |

I can figure abc out. At the very least I can re-notate it. . .
I may actually know Wind that Shakes the Barley on my mountaind dulcimer - shouldn't take much to transfer it to the fiddle or the hammer dulcimer. |

I have found it pretty easy to transfer tunes between instruments I know. When "Canonical Epimorphism" happened. I had the Accordian on and figured it out. That weekend I played it up to speed on the fiddle altho' now 6 weeks later I still can''t play it at 40MM on the PA.
It really is funny how the PA inspires new tunes. I have been listening to "Father Kelly's" off and on for a couple of years. I was sitting in the car w/ the PA and dosed off, I woke up with that tune in my head. so I've started learning that one. "Wind That Shakes the Barley" is a great tune because there are so many possible variations, but we don't play it very often. So that would be a good place to start. "Soldier's Joy" you probably know and there are a lot of things you can do with that one. |

I know Soldier's Joy - but it's been a while since I've played it.
Several of the songs that we played on Saturday I had heard on cd before but hadn't ever played. I was amazed at how quickly they were in my fingers. *Secret Confession Time* Except for the tunes that I started and a couple of the slow ones that were called (Arran Boat Song and Over Sea to Skye) I didn't actually know any of the tunes. |

Ha,Ha,Ha, the triumph of hand-ear co-ordination!
What I heard sounded pretty good. What I didn't hear I can't really comment on. "What I didn't hear" is actually quite a bit w/ the fiddle in my face. I repeat: you did well, and everybody was was very pleased with your contribution. Looking forward to round 2 |

Yes I'm still looking forward to the next one too! I am finally getting freed up enough to tackle Westphalia on the Accordeon. I'm getting some nibbles around Tam Linn and as soon as I can handle Westphalia fast enough not to fall over ( bicycle metaphor, don't worry about it. ) I'm starting on Ootpik.
