gregory tomlan
gregory percival tomlan . thirty-two . human . matt smith .
Name: Gregory Percival Tomlan Alias: None Name Meaning: Gregory is Greek and means "watchful" or "vigilant." Percival is French and means "Pierce the Vale." Tonlan is Aramaic and a variation of the boy's name Thomas. It means "Twin." Pronunciation: [ GREG - OR - EE ] [ PUR - SIV - AL ] [ TOM - LAN ] Alignment: Lawful Good Birthday: Early Summer Gender: Male Age: Race: Human Occupation: High Magistrate of Goldbridge Academy of Magic Residency: Goldbridge Academy of Magic Face Claim: Matt Smith Hair: Gregory's hair is a warm medium brown and boasts a large amount of natural volume. It tends to fall forward into his face a lot and due to his habit of running his hands through his hair when he's agitated, deep in thought or excited, it often turns into a wild, haphazard mess before the day is over. Despite its usual messiness, if you happen to see him in the morning just shortly after he's put himself together, it's evident that he spends a good deal of time parting it on the side and brushing it into a very particular style which he thinks is "modern" and "hip." Eyes: Gregory has wide, forest-green eyes flecked with brown. Although he does have eyelashes, they are a pale blonde and look non-existent. They're very expressive and almost always give away exactly what he is feeling, which most of the time, is excitement. They are quite often wide and bright with exhilaration, complimenting his enthusiastic fascination with pretty much everything, though they will occasionally become blank and inexpressive. These "dead" eyes only make an appearance on fleeting occasions. Body Standing at 5'11" and 146lbs, Gregory is fairly tall and lanky, although the fact that he has long legs and is bow-legged often makes him seem a great deal taller than he actually is. His outgoing personality also aids him in this respect. He has some muscle tone since he used to play soccer when he was younger and still enjoys the occasional game now and then, though it is by no means buff and is often hidden underneath the thick tweed jacket he wears. Scent:: Gregory smells like an old library full of leather-bound books. Face: Gregory has a very pronounced face, his features very bold and striking. He has a thick, wide jaw and high, pronounced cheekbones with a small hollow beneath the cheekbones, outlining them and making them even more striking. His nose resembles a jagged, rough chunk of stone that has been chiseled at by human hands to try to make the sharp edges smoother. Despite its broadness and hard shape, it adds a certain charm to his looks. His eyebrows are rather unextraordinary, sitting low above his eyes, and his forehead has small creases that become much more noticeable when he lifts his eyebrows. His lips are thin and almost always pulled back in a wide grin. Scent: Gregory smells like leather-bound books. Personality: Upon first meeting Gregory, one will normally label him as a cheerful geek. While this may be somewhat true, due to his generally loud, boisterous attitude and awkward dress habits, it becomes apparent rather quickly that Gregory is not only a bit socially awkward and enthusiastic, but also vastly intelligent. This is thanks to both a very extensive, high-quality education and a natural thirst for knowledge that he has harboured since he was a young boy. While Gregory is normally rather good-natured and boisterous, full of boundless energy, he gets extremely upset at injustice, particularly mistreatment of women. Being a rather old-fashioned man, Gregory believes strongly in chivalry and treating women with the utmost respect. At first, this may seem like he is patronizing towards women, believing them incapable of taking care of themselves, but Gregory will be the first to praise the high intellect of women, stating that he's known plenty of women in his lifetime who are far more brilliant than himself. Gregory will normally address women by their marital title followed by their surname and address men in much the same fashion. As for his own preference of what he should be called, Gregory isn't all that picky, though he does insist that others refrain from shortening his name to "Greg." He finds it too crass and unrefined. Gregory's strong sense of morals particularly about women come from unknown origins and if you ask Gregory his motives, he will simply say it is the proper thing to do and that he was brought up to be a gentleman. While Gregory's true passion lies in academic pursuits, he has a thirst for adventure and discovering the world, which is why he likes to travel. He believes he'll learn more by actually seeing and doing rather than reading about it (not to mention it'd be wonderful exercise). He firmly believes that having a healthy mind is largely dependent on having a healthy body, since one's physical well-being can affect one's mental well-being as well.
Childhood: Gregory was born a noble in the City of Goldbridge. His parents were in favour with the king and Gregory, along with his older brother, spent much of their childhood attending royal balls and fancy dinners, entertaining important guests from far and wide. He was educated by Goldbridge's best tutors and learned to read, write and do arithmetic, but his parents thought it a frivolous waste of time teaching him magic, despite this being what their son was most interested in. Adolescence: Gregory had a privileged, happy life but he was spoiled and selfish, always getting whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted. When his parents told him to choose a bride out of the noble girls presented to him, Gregory chose a fiery redhead by the name of Elizabeth. She wanted nothing to do with him but was forced into the marriage anyway by her own parents. Adulthood: At first, Elizabeth fought against him viciously but eventually realised she couldn't get out of her marriage and lost all her spirit, becoming listless and complacent. Gregory had thought this an improvement at first but soon began to miss her personality which had attracted him to her in the first place. Things only worsened when Elizabeth became gravely ill and not even the best healers in the city knew what was wrong with her. Not able to deal with his emotions, Gregory hid from them, distracting himself with emotionless affairs with other women and magical studies, hoping to find something that would cure his wife. When she finally passed, Gregory was racked with guilt over his lack of appreciation for her while she was alive and his affairs and selfishness. He vowed to dedicate his life to learning all he could about the world and magic, believing that a greater understanding of these things would help him become a better person, more understanding and tolerant of others. He hoped to make up for his past. He was true to his word and changed his life and outlook around, but lost the favour of the royal court with his silly ideas about equality and peasant rights. He was fired from his position as a royal adviser and the king sent him away to be the High Magistrate of the magical academy in Goldbridge to get him out of the way, but has been keeping close watch over him in case any of his crazy ideas start to take root anywhere. Money: Bank Account Weapons: A staff Magical Items: His staff has runes engraved on it and he can activate these when his own power is running low. They hold as much magic as he pours into it Companions: His horse, Duke Provisions: His clothes, books and other odds and ends he possesses in his room at the academy Other: A sketch of Elizabeth Friendship: Easy: Gregory's not very difficult to befriend at all. Jolly and jovial to nearly everyone he meets, Gregory makes friends quickly wherever he goes; however, though he has many friends, he has no one close enough to him for him to share his deepest secrets with. He has many friends but none of them are extremely close to him because he doesn't let anyone get that close to him. Romance: Difficult: Gregory misses his wife and regrets how he treated her when she was alive. He's afraid of destroying another woman's spirit if he were to let her in his heart, but maybe someone patient, understanding and willing to listen to all of his confessions could someday get him to change his mind. Sexuality: Heterosexual Marital Status: Widower ty lexy @ sds/atf |
