I may have told some of you already, but I am in the process of populating a wiki! This wiki aims to be a complete description of every historical event that I can remember that has happened in a simulated world that I have developed in its entirety, over the course of almost 250,000 years of their history, and quite a few years of mine as well.
Unfortunately, I haven't written anything down (they don't keep historical records either) so I have to regenerate it all from memory in order to do this. The whole time, history is continuing to move forward at a steady rate.

I don't want to post a link to the wiki until I have at least enough basic history on their to understand significant current events (It's not very significant that the Gremlin territories are currently ruled by a puppet government of the New Eastern Canal Alliance if you don't know that the Gremlin was twice in history the seat of the most powerful empire in the world, including one which was larger and more powerful than any before or since.). Instead, I have decided to post a very quick introduction here, which would be out of place on the wiki due to its shallowness. It will be the equivalent of describing our world's history by saying "there were some people in Iraq, then there was a big empire in Europe, then there was nothing interesting for a long time and then they made nuclear weapons." Ok, here goes.

______________________________________________________________________

The world is best described as being dominated by water. Just like our earth, civilizations and people are drawn to it, but even more extremely, man made and natural waterways serve roughly the same historical function as technological advancements in our world. In this way, the nation or alliance with the largest, most profitable, and most manageable system of great canals and waterways is the dominant one.

The year is currently around 245,000 since the beginning of the Common Era (It is no longer known by what means the zero date was originally set, but it may have been the birth of Victor or the birth of the Gremlin King, although it may have been earlier.). Known history begins during the time of The United, as the first major man made canal was being build by the man for whom the country would eventually be named. At the completion of this first canal (the "Business Canal" later called the "King's Bay Canal") that man, now known only as Gremlin or the Green King, became the supreme leader of his country, which became also gained economic supremacy due to it's complete control of trade through the very important canal. The old democratic government of the country was driven into hiding inside the old capital city, then in the process of being abandoned due to its sinking elevation (they would survive there, preserving their form of government, for almost one hundred millennia before being seen by outsiders again). The Gremlin King build a series of other major canals throughout the country, dividing it into large zones which he appointed governors to rule. He began the longstanding practice of the building of offshore castle-cities from which he and his governors ruled. He proved that it was possible to command extreme wealth and power through the mastery of both earth and water. For this he is remembered as the first elementalist by certain religious and mystical groups. He shaped the entire world by joining his nation with the two neighboring nations in the Big Three Alliance (notable for its incredibly long decline and crippling effect it had on the military and imperialistic functions of its member countries), which ended up cementing the Gremlin's (referring to the country now, as it is still known today) as the center of the world.

After the decline of the Gremlin and the Big Three, the world went through several shifting periods of no great powers appearing, and little expansion by any of the existing powers. The nation of Simultanea rose during the time of the Big Three's decline (although they were still dominant even during this decline), and continued to be important after the great rulers and canals of that alliance fell into history (which is barely remembered there). Interesting political developments occurred as small nations formed in the lowlands in the east of Simultanea along the Deep Ocean, and as they built their own small canals and water redirection systems allowing them to gather profit and power as well as reclaim land. During this great long interregnum, advanced watercraft were developed, in the forms of the Simultanean state-sponsored Simulcraft research company and the independent Northstar company from the Traditional Eastern Empire to the east of Simultanea and on the other side of the Deep Ocean.

Although many other important historical events occurred during these periods, they cannot be covered now. Eventually, change was occurring in the Gremlin. Wealthy landowners and canal builders were building canals and private islands (much like the Gremlin King himself) in the King's Bay region. One such private castle ended up saving the people of a small town from a great flood, which killed the owner of the castle in the process (a reclusive old man). The town was so grateful, that they searched the entire region for an heir or family member of the man to present honors too. Finally, a peasant boy (who is no longer believed to have been an actually relative of the hero of the town) came forward and claimed the remains of the castle, as well as the entire island on which the town could be found because of the way the castle, which he claimed was his, had saved it from destruction. On this island, the "Nephew" as he was often called, build the largest city even seen or seen since, in the form of the enormous castle-cities popularized by the Gremlin King himself. He gathered more wealth or power than any other person, building the largest empire ever known in the process. His complex system of canals and island ports allowed his country to become the most wealthy and prosperous in the world. On one occasion, he bloodlessly conquered the entirety of Simultanea, which had been a sworn enemy of his nation, with a wave of his hand (he had signaled a military coup which overthrew the complex bureaucracy bloodlessly, because no one could figure out who was in charge!). His empire seemed immutable, and he ruled for many thousands of years, experiencing the effect often called Divine immortality, by which rulers of nations live much longer than their normal life spans (a few thousand years for most people) as long as they continue to rule, until eventually, when his great castle-city, literally a single building the size of a small country, was nearly leveled by natural disaster and he too faded to the depths of history. In the way that rulers before him all over the world tried to emulate the Green King, for the next hundred thousand years up to today try to emulate him.

The modern world is not currently dominated by the Gremlin, however. The world, including the Gremlin itself which is barely a puppet the current dominators, is currently ruled by the nations of the New Eastern Canal Alliance, which includes several nations themselves headed by great castle-cities, on a scale that has not been seen since the time of the "Young" Emperor described above. Their single, wide, canal snakes through all their territories and is currently the only way to travel from the eastern sea areas to the Deep Ocean and beyond (which means Simultanea, Victoria, the Gremlin territories, the Cadian territories, and the northern regions. Basically, the entire rest of the known world.) Their monopoly on world trade allows them to dictate politics in many other places, such as establishing offshore castle-cities filled with hand picked officials to rule over the old Big Three nations of the Gremlin and Cadia. Those areas had previously been in a state of decentralized rule by small feuds scattered around near food supplies. Even though the NECA attempted to gain control of the offshore capital of Cadia, a grassroots group granted its approval of the new capital and took over, reducing NECAs influence there, even though they still indirectly control it though its heavy dependence on the offshore capital of the Gremlin. Fascinatingly, a complete microcosm of world society is developing in the back regions (the western regions) of Cadia, around a small canal network connected to the Sea of the Uniedi. They have an independent food supply, as well as several different types of nations including a traditional imperial one ruled by a castle-city and a democratic nation in which the wealth is divided among many more areas of the country, despite having no international interactions beyond those with the other nations in the microcosm and with a few small towns around the Sea. Someday, they may expand and bring the heartland of Cadia into their sphere of influence, pushing he part ruled from offshore into the more southern regions, and potentially forcing out the NECA. This development just shows the self-similarity that can occur in this world, as well as the flexible conditions under which civilization will form.

Ok, so that was longer than I though. But at least I got a basic outline of world history down, so now if I publish the link to the wiki and it references this stuff, you'll know what I mean. And I didn't even talk about their equivalent of nuclear weapons, even though I sort of said I would. Here's a hint: NECA has them, and their predecessor (in the same region) used them. Ok, I'll just tell you. It's dams. They close dams and cut of the world supply of ocean currents.

Yes, I shortened it to make it less distracting. I don't want people to be like, "if that's Canada, then where is Mexico? Or Australia? Or whatever?"
