sharlene loved to work late at night. for some reason, her brain works so much better and she's more motivated to do things once the sun's set and the people have left the halls of the school empty and abandoned. it wasn't really illegal to be here this late. sharlene could use the excuse that there's no room for her to work on all these costumes at home (even though there was) and she definitely needed to have them ready soon or the director is going absolutely kill her. it wasn't hard to convince the custodians to let her stay. honestly, sharlene was pretty sure half of them were scared of her.
they weren't sure what show they were doing for winter yet, which was kind of stupid considering it was so close. the wind outside was practically frozen and it was absolutely horrible for sharlene's nails. anyway, sharlene wanted to sort out through the costumes as soon as possible, seeing as they were all mixed up from the previous year. shakesperean gowns mixed up with fully bedazzled flared pants and blazer combo. yeah, that wasn't going to do. sharlene had gone right after class and dumped her back at her usual table backstage. (which was covered in rolls of thread and cloth, and if she ran her hand over it she'd probably get pricked by five hundred needles. note to self, sharlene; clean up your desk.
sharlene had text daniel about ten minutes ago to come and help her. it was kind of late but someone from rehearsal that day thought it would be funny to trip over one of sharlene's costume racks and then run away before sharlene could see his face and add her to her black list. she didn't even want to think of what'd she'd do if she caught him. maybe her nails wouldn't be as blood-free as they were now.
right now, she was sitting on a stool in between two racks and shifting through one of them. she needed to find a way to organize them, because right now, "ugly as fuck" and "semi decent" weren't viable options, no matter how much sharlene wanted them to be.
she hoped daniel would get here soon.

Forward and back. Repeat. Daniel followed the same pattern for 35 minutes as he delved into the St. Anselm's swimming pool. It was his safe haven. A place where he could command attention and not feel threatened or guilty. After a hectic drama rehearsal, all he really wanted to do was be alone and let the water wash away the stress. You would think that by now the kids in drama would know not to mess with Sharlene's costumes unless they had a death wish. Obviously not because the culprit never confessed causing everyone to endure the constant bitching for the rest of the period.
Just thinking about it made his head hurt so Dan plunged his head back underwater. That always did the trick. Just as he came up, he heard a siren type sound coming from his phone on the bench. That carefully assigned tone only meant one thing. Sharlene needed him. Shit. Reluctantly, Daniel pulled his body out of the water and dried off before grabbing his phone from his backpack on the bench. Yep, Sharlene demanded his presence now. Dan sighed heavily and went to the locker room to take the world's quickest shower. That tiny brunette was not one to be kept waiting.
The rest of the drama kids would consider him crazy for helping out Sharlene. To him, it would be plain mean not to help when he knew how to sew and other crap. How could he not? His mom had no daughters and since she worked in fashion, he was the scapegoat for helping her hem fabric and shit. Not many people knew that though. That information wasn't readily volunteered, only given on an "answer if asked basis". Daniel just felt bad that she had to do all the work by herself so he offered up his services. He just didn't know she'd need him so much.
After showering and drying swiftly, Daniel put on his clothes. A good third of his torso was still wet but that would have to do because of the time press. The thunder outside momentarily made him freeze but he quickly snapped out of it and raced into the hallway, making it to the drama room in under a minute. Who could chastise him for running anyway? The only other person here was the janitor and they were pretty cool anyway.
Water droplets rolled down his neck as he peeked around the room trying to find Sharlene. Daniel ran his hands through his hair in attempt to make it stick up like usual and failed miserably. He hoped she was in dire need of help because he didn't even have time breathe basically. Eventually he found her in between two costume racks looking through clothes so he sat on the floor in front of her feet. "What is it that you may need?"

sharlene gave up with trying to fix them by herself because she just wasn't feeling it right now. her parents were still annoyed at her for having less than spectacular grades and almost told her to stop with the drama club. sharlene is sharelen, though, so she was able to convince them that she could get her grades up by the end of the year. or else she'd quit drama. right. that was going to happen. sharlene knew how to sneak behind her parents' backs. how else do you think she gets all this alcohol?
sharlene was jarred out of her thoughts by a click of a door, and but she didn't bother to raise her head to look at him. she knew it was danny. who else would give enough of a fuck to come here and help the poor not-so-defenseless costume manager for the drama club? only him. and honestly, she preferred it that way. daniel was the only fucking competent asshole in the entire club when it came to sewing, at least by sharlene's standards.
she smiled softly at him when he sat down, but then went back to her regular self almost immediately, "about time you got here, shitface" she complained, and then stood up, walking over to one of the costume racks, "some moron decided that it was okay to mix up all of these stupid costumes and now we've got 60s clothes in between Victorian gowns and we can't fucking have that, now can we? i've been trying to figure out how to sort them out." she said, as she shifted through the clothes and started pulling out some of the gowns. she then brushed past danny and dumped about four of the puffy things onto a table.
"got any ideas, aquaman?" she said, not even bothering to look at him and went right back to the rack, pulling out more of the stupid shakespearean customes out. ew, who mixed the boys' costumes with the girls'? that was just fucked up.

Sharlene actually smiled at him. Granted, itwasn't even a full five seconds but that had to be a good sign, right? At least she didn't stab him with a needle or anything for getting there 25 minutes after she sent out the text message. Most people would be offended if Sharlene called them shitface but Daniel wasn't. For her, that was being sort of nice. "Nice to see you too, Dollface." Dan turned her head to watch her look through stuff, careful not to seem like he was staring. She hadn't changed or anything since the school day ended but she just seemed much more vibrant and prettier here. Maybe since she wasn't screaming her head off...yet.
It would be a lie to say that Daniel hadn't noticed she was easy on the eyes. What warm blooded heterosexual male would even try to deny that? However, having a crush on her would be like falling in love with your kidnapper. Just fucking insane. He might as well set a sign on his front door that said "Welcome Domestic Violence" in big, bold letters. Not to mention the fact that Sharlene Puckett really didn't like people. That was fine with Daniel, he knew that despite her rock hard exterior, she really appreciated him being there even though Shar would never admit it.
Daniel eased himself up and sat on a stool next to the table Sharlene was working at. He eyed the dresses with distaste. They were gonna be there for quite a while. "I guess that won't do." He scratched his head to think of a course of action but visibly cringed when she called him Aquaman. How does she even know I swim? Oh yeah, I'm still half wet An idea eventually struck him when some boxes in the corner came into vision. "How about we separate them by era into boxes and label them accordingly." Dan smiled, knowing his idea was good and proud Sharlene didn't think of it first.
He was about to gather the boxes from the corner when the lights flickered. That happened sometimes, nothing serious, right? What he didn't expect was for the room to go pitch black save for the one small window on the other side of the room and halt Daniel in his tracks. "Errrr, that's not good." That Captain Obvious comment would probably get some backlash later.

he called her "dollface." gross. who the hell even says that anymore? sharlene turned to make a face at him. something between disgusted and annoyed. it was a face sharlene happened to make a lot, but for the record, she made it less with danny was in the vicinity. still, it wasn't her fault a lot of people aggravated her. danny just aggravated her a little less.
to be honest, danny was one of the few people sharlene didn't want to desintegrate the moment he opened his mouth. that in itself was an achievement on his part because sharlene was probably a serial killer in the making. he was right amount of nice and snark and the right amount of guy and the right amount of talent. there was just something, and sharlene beat her head against the wall a lot trying to figure out what it was. (not that she cared about him enough to think about him a lot. of course not.)
sharlene rolled her eyes at his comment, and then dumped another dress--an extra poofy one with a fuckton of petticoats--on the table with a slam, "no shit it won't." and she did what she did best; direct her anger for something else to someone who didn't deserve it.
"would be nice if we have more fucking boxes, but i like the idea of not having to look at them." sharlene said, holding up a rather atrocious outfit with seams coming out somewhere, or rather, everywehre. sharlene turned to look at him and apparantly, he had moved and was about to get some boxes for her and really it was nice of him, even if shar would never admit it.
her thoughts were cut through though, by the lights messing the fuck up. sharlene rolled her eyes and then turned back to the rack, wondering when the fuck the school was gonna start fixing their shit up, but then the room was bathed in darkness. sharlene froze, and a tiny tiny squeak came out of her.
"the fucking fuck." she said, her voice shaking. this was not good. it was dark, and she couldn't see a fucking thing. where was the window? oh right, blocked up by some cabinets because the drama room was tiny and they needed space to rehearse. this was stupid.
"d-danny?" she said, turning around by nothing changing. still black, "where are you?"

Daniel winced at Sharlene's face. He had lasted five minutes without getting one, impressive. Most people would've recieved that look as soon as they came in the door. Daniel felt pretty lucky and special in a weird, twisted way. If that didn't make him a loyal subject, he didn't know what would. There was no point in denying it. Sharlene could call at 4 a.m and Daniel would arrive at her house in five minutes with slobber still on his face and his eyes half-open.
He really did wish she'd be a bit nicer. Not some lady-like cream puff but a decent human being with feelings. Dan also knew he had it better that 97% of St. Anselm's and he was grateful. It didn't hurt to dream though. Plus, it wasn't like these thoughts would ever be shared. Leaving the 3% population would really make the next 2 1/2 years at St. A's a living hell.
The petticoats hit the table and Daniel could nearly hear his mother's voice in his head screaming about how horrid of a fashion disaster this was. That combined with Sharlene's actual voice did not make a good combination. "Okay, okay but it can be fixed, chillax Shar." He realized too late that he shouldn't have done that. Telling a girl to calm down is a huge no-no.
"You're welcome, Sharlene." That was basically her thank you and she wasn't going to repeat it nor say the actual words so Daniel accepted it anyway. He knew what she meant. Not to mention the fact that pushing the subject could possibly get him slapped so it was best to refrain from that activity.
The blackout couldn't have come at a worse time. Daniel was tired, Sharlene was irritated, and they had a lot of work to do. With the lack of light, there was no way they'd be able to work on the costumes. At least Sharlene wasn't afraid of darkness or anything. Or least he assumed.
Daniel took a few steps back and found her, placing his hand on her shoulder to make sure of where she was. "I'm right here, Shar. Are you erm...okay?" Was that fear he detected in the great Sharlene Puckett's voice?

"it better be fixed or a couple of assholes are gonna get their buttocks come off if they complain to me about misplaced costumes." because more often than not, the stupid people in the clubd didn't know where to put the clothes after they take the stupid things off. sure, there were the rather professional performers who knew what to do and how to act backstage, but this was high school. you couldn't go around with seeing at least one fucktard and saint anselm's was no exception. much to sharlene's distaste.
she rolled her eyes when he said you're welcome, because really it wasn't like she said thank you. it was as obvious as pollution in new york that he was being a little passive agressive, trying to get her to be a little more polite. newsflash, crawford. this was sharlene puckett. politeness? not gonna happen.
let me tell you a secret. sharlene was actually afraid of the dark. there was just something about not knowing where you're going and not knowing who could be right there in front of you that scared the crap out of her. when she was a kid, she slept with a nightlight. maddy always turned off the lights and not her when they went to bed. sharlene made sure her eyes were closed before she was ever engulfed by darkness.
so when danny put his hand on her shoulder, sharlene gave a rather loud and shrill scream and then stumbled forward, almost tripping over a rack but catching herself just on time. her knees wobbled as she steadied herself, and she glared angrily into the darkness.
"don't ever fucking do that again daniel crawford or i will castrate you." she threatened through his teeth, the quake in her voice masked by anger. she didn't know where he was now, since the almost-fall sort of disoriented her.
"and no, i'm not fucking okay. does it look like i'm okay?" which was a stupid thing to say, considering neither of them could really look at anything, so she ammended it a couple of seconds later, "don't answer that."
danny couldn't know sharlene was scared out of her mind right now. that would ruin her flawless reputation.
why the fuck did new york decide to fuck with her now?

Daniel scratched his head, "We will get the job done. No need to commit drama club genocide in the process." He knew if she really put her mind to something, nothing anyone said could deter her. If she wanted to set the school on fire right now, she would and all he'd be able to do is run out before he got scalded by flames. Sharlene's strong mindedness turned a lot of people of but it was one of the things Dan liked most about her. As long as she wasn't using it against him, of course.
His heart wasn't hurt when she rolled her eyes. It happened often, nothing new. "Tough crowd, tough crowd." Dan said. He had done his daily "Sharlene be nicer" poke so another one would probably be overkill and push the short brunette toward homicide. Daniel Crawford did value his life, thank you very much.
The darkness irked him a bit but it wasn't the worst thing in the world. This couldn't even compare to when Matt made him practice swimming blindfolded. 10 laps in the huge St. Anselm's pool while blind to the world is no joke. That was a scary fucking experience, also quite exhilarating. So if he was honest, this blackout was very elementary to him, unless the room just suddenly flooded with chlorine-filled water. Then, he'd scream like an 5 year old girl.
Daniel was unsure whether he should laugh or cry when Sharlene let out that blood curdling scream so he decided to keep his mouth shut. That was always the safe option. He jumped back and almost fell in to a metal rack as well. They weren't exactly the most coordinated pair. She acted like she was scared of the dark or something. Daniel quickly shook the thought away. This was Sharlene Puckett, she was like The Incredible Hulk. Did she even have any fears? It was often hard to remember that she was human.
He threw his hands up in innocence. "Sorry, sorry. Just leave my male anatomy out of this, okay?" Her threat was scary because one day she could actually decide to follow through with it. He didn't know if he wanted children in the future but he would like to keep the option.
Since they both nearly ended up on the ground, it became hard to find her placement. "Where the fuck did you go? Poke me, touch my face, or something when you get near me. Just don't draw blood or anything."
"I won't answer then. Does the dark really bother you or something?" Daniel wondered. She really was having a rough time with this, for seemingly no reason.

despite what you may think, there wasn't a traumatic event in sharlene's past that trigger this fear. no time when she was a little girl and got lost at night. no childhood nightmare about monster in the dark. nothing. nada. zip. it's just there. it's called irrational for a reason, though in her head, it seemed pretty damn rational to be afraid of not knowing where the fuck you're putting your feet and what the hell's in front of you. especially when you're in the middle of your school in the middle of the night.
as she stumbled forward, she heard danny trip over something too, but the lack of a crash told her that he was still standing. thank god he didn't fall over anything. that would've been a bitch to clean up, especially if the lights didn't come back on soon. when he apologize, she just huffed and faced the direction of his voice. she raised her arms and probed the air around her. nothing. well, she was going to have to take a step.
thankfully she had opted for the less murderous heels that day. if she was wearing anything else, she probably would've fallen over several times over and gotten stabbed by something by now. she took a baby step forward, but still found nothing. and then another. well, she was getting frustrated. where did he go?
sharlene ended up moving a little farther, going after the direction of his voice, "i can't poke you if i can't even tell where the fuck you ar--oh." and them she bumped into him. lightly, thankfully, or else they would've fallen over. sharlene held her arms forward and stepped back, keeping herself an arm's length away from him. her hand ran down his arm until it found his wrist. and then she held it in a death grip.
"there you are." she said, her voice less angry and more relieved. she didn't loosen her grip as she continued, "so what the fuck do we do now?"

Daniel really did wish that he was back in the pool, perfecting his breaststroke for relays. That was a literal paradise where he could be alone in the dark room with the pool's soft internal lights leading the way. He should've been grateful because being in an Olympic-sized swimming pool in complete darkness would've freaked him the fuck out. That wasn't Dane trying to make him a better swimmer. That was the universe trying to kill him.
Now he was safe, well fairly safe. God forbid if he fell into Sharlene's desk, it would take hours to pull out all the pins out of his skin or even worse, his hair. Then there was Sharlene herself. She wasn't exactly the peaceful type. However, at the moment, Dan was as safe as he could possibly be.
Honestly, Daniel couldn't figure out what was wrong with Shar. The normal snark in her tone was obvious and visible but it was also met with a hint of desperation maybe? He hoped he was imagining things because desperation and fright were not emotions he'd ever experienced from her. Sure, Shar got exasperated sometimes and needed help. However, he knew that if he hadn't shown up, she would've found a way to finish everything, even if it took all night.
The way she said her words so urgently and let out that awful banshee-like shriek was just unsettling. That same thought had run through his mind a few times in the last 5 minutes but he still decided not to inquire about it. Who knows if she'd make good on that castration threat?
"Oh I'm sorry I caused the blackout just so you can't find me. Do you want me to glow for you?" Daniel said sarcastically. He had the right to be at least a little bit annoyed. And he was, at least until her petite body knocked into his tall frame. And as quickly as it happened, she stepped away. Dan gulped hard as she ran her hand along the length of his arm. It felt a lot better than it should have.
They were alone in the middle of a city-wide blackout and Daniel was excited that a member of the female species other than his mother touched him. Teenage hormones weren't worth shit. He raised an eyebrow when Sharlene squeezed his wrist as if the world depended on it but came to the conclusion that he'd mention it only if it began to hurt...worse, especially since she wasn't going to let go anytime soon.
"There you are." Dan repeated with a cheeky grin to match. He was a bit cocky since he knew she couldn't see him. Shocked that he got the responsibility of making the plan, he was silent for a few moments to ponder. "Ok, I think we have two options. The first is to find an open space in here to sit and wait for the lights to come on. Option number two is moving someplace else. Auditorium, hallway, and dressing rooms are the closest places here. So, what what you like to do, Captain?" Daniel asked. He ran his thumb over the inside of her wrist softly, not really knowing why but that it just seemed like the right thing to do.

sharlene repressed the smile when danny made an annoyed joke, because now was not the time to be smiling. she just really glad he couldn't see her or he might use that to his advantage, mock her or something. so she put on a front and returned his sarcasm, "that'd be just awesome, actually. maybe if i set your hair on fire we'd see something." she said, but she wasn't serious. of course she wasn't. the only hair she'd probably set on fire was monroe's. or dane's. dane's hair would look nice if it burst into flames.
if this were any other circumstance, sharlene wouldn't even dare think about holding onto someone else this tight for any prolonged period of time, but this wasn't normal. electricity wass invented for a fucking reason and sharlene couldn't stand not being able to see two steps in front of her, so if she fell, at least she'd have someone to take down with her.
"two options, got it." she said, the strength in her voice wavering, and she tried to ignore the sparks that shot up her arm at the feel of the pad of his thumb slowly brushing across her wrist, because now was not the time to be thinking about the feeling of a boy holding your hand (or you holding his wrist, rather) (but then again, when was it ever the right time to think about boys? that's right, never. they were stupid and a waste of time.)
"do you really think we can go anywhere else without falling over and getting stabbed to death by the shit that's all over the floor?" and sharlene instinctively kicked at the floor around them, and surely enough her feet caught on a dress and she kicked it away, not even caring right now how dirty it got because for the first time ever, clothes were not the top priority right now.
"but then again, we could actually find a room with a fucking window" she said, looking around, trying to figure out where the door was and mapping the darkened room in her mind. the door should be...somewhere, but her mind was blank and her heart was racing, so she lessen her grip on danny's wrist and looked up at what was assumingly his face, "but, um, do you have any idea where the door is?"

"Ouch. Anything but the hair." Dan said. He wasn't vain or cocky really but his hair was taken very seriously. A lot of effort was placed to make sure it was perfect everyday, especially since he was a swimmer. It spoke volumes that he didn't make Sharlene wait for about 20 minutes while he sculpted a masterpiece with hair gel. Instead, he came along with his wet hair falling against his forehead.
Sharlene's grip no longer felt uncomfortable but warm and natural. He wasn't used to touching members of the opposite sex but this felt right. Sure, he wasn't a ladies man like Matt but if being Daniel Crawford got him this, then being Daniel Crawford wasn't so bad. Mentally he slapped himself again for being so in awe that a girl was touching him for longer than 5 seconds. Seriously, was there any chance of him acting semi-normal? Probably not. However, she wasn't pulling away so maybe he was doing something right.
The thing about being in a powerless room with someone that close was the fact that you could hear everything. Every breath either of them took could be heard and holding his breath could let him hear her heartbeat. It was quickly becoming unnerving. New York needed to get it's shit together and preferably soon. "Yes, take your time. It's not like we're standing in a death trap or anything. No pressure, no pressure. Daniel teased even though he meant what he said. It was getting creepy in there.
"Well, we can try." He winced and moved his leg out of the way out of habit when Sharlene kicked something away on the floor. They really need to clean this place up when the power came back on. It should be a crime to be this much of a dump.
"That is a point." Daniel tilted his head to the side and looked down at her since he could sense her eyes on him. This was new, making decisions and being the leader. Daniel decided to wait until later to decide if he liked it or not. He needed to make a course of action and quickly. Whether she liked it or not would be determined rather soon. Hopefully they could make it out of the drama room with minimal to no injuries."Um, maybe. Sharlene, do you trust me?"
Instead of giving her a chance to say no, he grabbed both of her hands and began to walk backwards with his eyes closed. Shar would kill him if she knew he was leading her around based on a Matt Dane training excerise. Daniel was controlling his breathing and moving with instinct as his only guide. A spool of thread came under his foot and he nearly brought them crashing down but he felt the wall against his back. Maybe this whole instinct thing wasn't complete shit. After scooting against the wall for a moment, a handle jabbed his right side and he let go of Sharlene's hand to open the door.
It led into the hallway. The sweet, sweet hallway with windows and moonlight streaming through. No other time in his school career made him so happy to see that hallway. "Hm, I'm pretty sure thanks are in order." Daniel smiled in triumph, hoping she could see it. He still didn't let her hand go, he didn't really want to.

we ain't ever gonna grow up
and i when i say explode i don't mean that we using bombs. we doing stuff that we don't ever have to tell our moms. love the stuff we got it, we got it all up in the room. paper chasing, yeah we got it everything we want. somehow, some way, we're gonna have it our way. we don't give a what, what you say. no we don't.
"no pressure? no offense, but it's not as easy as it looks. any fucking one could just walk in here and kill us and we wouldn't see him coming." she wasn't sure where the fear was coming from but, it was coming fast. a steady and heavy flow from her brain to the rest of her body. it made her knees shake slightly despite her constant effort to keep herself dignified and composed.
normally, the closeness would make her uncomfortable, or even freak her the fuck out, but all she wanted right now was more of it. to feel someone else close to her to keep her safe and to ensure her that if some sort of axe murderer did arrive and try to off them that he would be the first to go and not shar.
normally, had she not been shrouded by fear and insecurity, sharlene would be taking the lead and dragging daniel out of the room and outside where the moon could reach them without a single ounce of hesitation, but this was different. sharlene didn't know what to do, where to go, or how to solve this. she hated feeling helpless. she's always been the kind of girl to take matters into her own hands because everyone else is incompetent and inferior to her and needed a good head bashing so that they actually do something right. this was weird for her, and it became even weirder when he asked if she trusted him. who did he think he was, aladdin? she opened her mouth to retort, saying something like, "i trust you as much as i'd trust a dog not to eat my bacon." (oh, god, even her ability to make good comebacks was slowly deteriorating.)
but before she could answer, he grabbed her hands and made her move. she resisted the urge to scream profanities at him, and instead opted for a more coherent sentence, "i swear to god, crawford, if you get us killed i will personally ask the fucking devil if i can be the one to give you your eternal punishment." but despite what she said, the tension that was on her shoulders was relaxing slightly, and her heart left when she heard the click of a door.
she had never been so glad to see a filthy, badly decorated school hallway in her entire life. sharlene let out a gigantic breath and then said, "thanks for not getting us killed, but you were probably just lucky." but still, despite this, she was really grateful. of course she'd never let dan know that. she never, ever would.

LIES, LIVING IN A FANTASY don'tevenknowreality - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Daniel opened his mouth to say something but quickly shut it. It would be a bit rude(or suicidal) to tell Sharlene that a criminal would be in the dark and have a hard time finding them, no one except for Sharlene knew that he left the pool, and the only other person at St. Anselm's at the moment was the janitor who was probably in the cafeteria or some commons area. Not to mention that a stranger wouldn't know the school very well and would have a very good chance of hurting themselves on Sharlene's table...or any other surface.
"Ummm, okay?" He said. It was weird being the level head, the sane one in control. Daniel felt uneasy being that person, he'd be more than happy to give Sharlene her job back. He didn't have all the answers. Now Dan was winging it with hopes that his next move would be the right one.
He thought Sharlene's reaction to getting them out of there was hilarious and a bit ironic considering that she was the afraid one who would just die if they didn't make it out. Daniel just shook his head and kept moving. It wasn't like she was grabbing the reins anytime soon. "Really? And here I thought you and Satan were one and the same." He filled up with internal pride. That was a good one.
At this point, everything was almost funny. The largest city in the country was dark and powerless, he was at school holding onto a girl who hated everyone except maybe 7 people and he was blessed to fall into that few, and they were close together with maintained contact while Dan had no previous knowledge with girls. Not even a soap opera could come up with this literal fuckery.
Daniel sat down near a window and tugged gently on Sharlene's hand to get her to sit next to him. He ignored the snarky parts of her thank you and accepted it anyway with a big grin. She relaxed for the first time since the lights went out. If they hadn't solved anything else, at least Sharlene was calm, at least for the moment. "I was lucky. How lucky would I have been if I left you in there?" He was joking but she didn't have to know that he would've never left her in that safety hazard alone.
Since they were out of there, they needed something to do. The city was dark, there wasn't anyone he could call right then to come get them because first of all, his mother was at work and secondly, most of the people he'd call for help were on the St. Anselms swim team which would be a huge mistake around Sharlene. "My brain is officially fried. What are we gonna do? It's not like we can go home or work on costumes without nearly killing ourselves in the process."

"i'm just his apprentice, asshole. get it right. i'm nowhere near satana level just yet." she scoffed, but didn't let go of his hand. even if her annoyace at everything was growing with every single second, she didn't want to lose her guide, "besides, if i was satan, a certain matthew dane would've been eaten by sharks weeks ago." which was, to an extent, true. but really she would've given lauren the priveledge of doing that.
thankfully, there was light now. sharlene's eyes adjusted to the dimness and her knees stopped shaking. she let out a breath, a relieved one, and then faced her...welp, saviour. if you could call him that. she'd never say it out loud, though. not in a billion years.
she followed him near the window, but then at the mere mention of him leaving her alone in that goddamn room, she yanked her hand away (there was no reason to keep it there.) and then huffed, leaving him sitting there, "you'd be lucky to be alive." she said, crossing her arms over her chest.
she took a step away, making her standing a good three feet away from where he was sitting. she stayed silent as he talked, looking down the hallway. she could imagine it during the daytime, filled with people and other teenahers, bustling around. he asked what they could do, and an idea struck her. she turned back to him, a smirk crawling up her face, "we could break into lockers. the security cameras aren't working, right?" she said, and then made to go towards some that were nearest them, against the wall.
