When she's so damn cold like 20 below?
That girl, that girl, she's such a bitch,
I tell myself I can handle it.
"What do you mean I can't go to cheer today?" Lauren was practically seething as she looked at her math teacher who stared her down. Her failed quiz was laid just between them on the table and her green eyes looked at the offending piece of paper coldly. This couldn't be happening, just because she'd failed three quizzes in math didn't mean she could stop being in cheer, right? That was just shit, seriously. She huffed, one hand resting on her hip as the teacher went on to explain that she needed to get her grades up and that maybe she should lay off cheer leading for a while, skip on a few practices and spend that time studying.
No, no way in hell was she skipping cheer just to study. Okay, maybe she had her priorities in horrible order but cheer and dancing, that was one of the things she really valued, one of the things she was absolutely proud of. She was never the brightest student out there, hell, it'd be a miracle if she got a B on her math quiz. Which she didn't, but that's beside the point. She crumpled her paper in her hand and threw it into a trash can once she'd left the room, making sure to let the door slam loudly when she did. Who cares, the teacher never really cared. They all did it for formalities. If there was one thing she knew, it was that St. Anselm's was run with money, if you had the money, you could get away with anything.
"Bullshit." Lauren said as she stuffed a book into her bag. No cheer for today? What the hell? Cassy wouldn't be happy, she'd look for Lauren. Ivy would, too, since she was the jv captain. She leaned against her locker and just watched as people walked pass her, laughing and getting ready to leave for school. It was a Friday, Friday was her favorite day for cheer practice because then she could push herself to just go all out since it was the weekend tomorrow. But apparently, she needed to work on other things besides cheer right now. Bullshit. "I can't believe this, ugh."
If there was one thing Lauren hated, it was the library - and okay, sure, there wasn't just one thing. The list was long, insanely long. This girl didn't have much room for loving things, really. She'd find something stupid and she'd hate it. She'd find you annoying, she'd hate you. She'd find you ugly, she'd hate you, too, just cause you're a pain to look at. Not exactly your little angel, Lauren Levesque. But when she made her way to the library, hair clipped back and falling in loose waves on her shoulders, she looked like one. Well, you can't always judge a person by their looks because then you'd think that Lauren wouldn't be the type to bite your head off, and that was on her good days.
She set her bag down on the table with a little slam, her books slamming against the wooden surface. She dragged her chair, making sure it made that horrible scraping sound and then shuffled around her seat, her bracelets making that metallic clinking sound it makes when they hit each other. She was making far too much noise, especially with her phone that constantly beeped because of a message. But she didn't mind all the noise - of course she hated the library, she hated the silence. Lauren finally got comfortable and then took out her math book and then she dropped it back down onto the table because if she held it a second longer she would have flung it across the room. "Ugh, I hate math. Why the hell am I even here in the first place." Lauren mumbled, sounding spiteful and defeated at the same time because she was in the library now, anyway and math seriously needed to die.

and i when i say explode i don't mean that we using bombs. we doing stuff that we don't ever have to tell our moms. love the stuff we got it, we got it all up in the room. paper chasing, yeah we got it everything we want. somehow, some way, we're gonna have it our way. we don't give a what, what you say. no we don't.
sharlene hated schoolwork. well, she knew she needed good grades and all that shit if she wanted to get into the fine arts or fashion university of her choice, but that was years away. it was the start of sophomore, for god's sake. she had all the time in the world to make up for her horrible test scores and she didn't need "extra study time" as maddy put it. yeah, maddy was forcing her to come with her to the library. their parents had been a bit concerned once sharlene's test scores came in. (if she had her way, she wouldn't have shown them at all, but maddy always shows them her tests. and since they're in the same classes they get their tests back together. simple and annoying as fuck.)
her gigantic heels clicked against the floor as she walked towards the library. maddy was walking way ahead of her, because apparently, the fact that shar wore shoes about ten feet higher than her didn't matter and shouldn't hinder the speed of her walking. it wasn't that shar couldn't walk in heels, of course, but she just didn't feel like it. her books were heavy in her arms, considering her bag wasn't built to carry books. this wasn't cool, she thought, but she was going to have to deal. maybe if maddy walked fast enough, shar could lose her.
when she pushed open the double doors, the overwhelming smell of rotting paper and stale air conditioning filled her nostrils. wow, add that to the list of things sharlene hated about the library. the stupid smell.
maddy made her way to one of the tables, but she was far ahead. so far ahead that when sharlene turned the corner to follow her, she was nowhere to be found. it was kinda stupid, and she huffled a very loud breath.
well, she might as well stay here. maddy was bound to show her stupid face again eventually. she was about to dump her things on an empty table when a huge flurry of different loud sounds caught her attention. a couple of feet off was a very familiar blonde head that shar thought she would never see in the library; lauren levesque.
sharlene smiled. now she knew what she was going to do for the hour that she's forced to spend "studying."
she walked over to her best friend, who looked like she wanted to murder her math book. shar almost laughed, because seriously, who wouldn't want to do that? when she was close enough, she heard lauren mumble something and then she responded, in a voice that was probably a little louder than it needed to be.
"i could ask you the same question, chica." and with that she dumped the stack of books onto the table and plopped down on the chair adjacent to the blonde girl, "fancy meeting you here, renny. come here often?"
You're not that good,
And I'm not that type.

Whoever thought about gathering a bunch of books and stuffing them into a room too big for anyone's interest, really, was out of their mind. But there were people out there who genuinely loved the library and school and studying and oh dear lord, what the hell was wrong with them? Lauren had no idea why anyone would want to push themselves into the agonizing pain that was studying, cracking open and book and actually trying to learn. She was plenty smart when it came to other matters. Math was just her worse subject, really. She knew she could get by in life sucking in math and science and everything else that required a lot of academic effort.
Lauren was snapped out of her thoughts, mainly just thinking about how easy it would be to murder the school board and set this whole library on fire. That and how quick it would be to throw her math book at anyone who passed her by, giving her a weird look because what the hell was Lauren Levesque doing in the library? It would be so easy, really, flinging her math book across the room and hitting someone with it. Maybe then she'd appreciate the true beauty of the library, after she'd terrorized someone in it.
She looked up, the voice familiar and then instantly she felt better, her lips quirking into a smile. "Sharry!" Lauren practically squealed, reaching for the girl and then stopping herself, remembering she was at the library. Oh, really? "Sharry, oh my god!" Nope, she didn't even try to tone down her voice. Lauren giggled. Of all the people that could have walked into that door, it had to be Sharlene Puckett.
Oh, this was going to be a blast, she knew it.
Lauren rolled her eyes at the question and nudged her math book away from her, glaring at it. "I don't even know where here is," Lauren widened her eyes and looked around them and then gasped, as if surprised that she was in the library. "Holy shit, we're in the library!" She looked at Sharlene and then gasped again before erupting into giggles. Who cared if she talked loudly in the library? Yeah, probably the librarian who'd be on her in the next second, telling her to shut up or leave. "What the hell are you doing here, anyway? I don't remember agreeing to hang out in the library, of all places."
And of all the people who had to get together in the library, of all the best friends who had to find each other unexpected in the library, it had to be Sharlene Puckett and Lauren Levesque. God, just kick both of them out now or else hell would break lose.

lauren levesque was sharlene beckett's best friend. no doubt about it. the girl was fiesty and fiery and everything shar admired in a person. they both took absolutely no shit from anyone else and were headstrong girls. it was a good combination. lauren was a bit more rational than shar, who happened to enjoy threatening people instead of just giving them witty comebacks. it was a perfect fit, really, even though a lot of the people they had classes had would disagree and call them the devil's daughters.
"hey, girl, hey!" sharlene replied, just as enthusiatically in an annoying valley girl voice. she had no idea that lauren would be in the library right now, but still, they managed to meet up. it was almost hilarious, how much of a coincidence it was. life was funny sometimes, wasn't it? "who'd have thought i'd find you hear in the fucking library, making sweet love to your math book. you've changed, renny." she tsked, waggling her finger at her best friend and then letting out a short breathy laugh.
she pulled out the seat next to lauren, the wood making a screeching sound as she did so, and plopped down, stretching her legs out under the table. god, she loved heels, but jesus fucking christ, carrying a stack of books in them was painful.
"no shit, sherlock. that deduction deserves a nobel prize." she laughed with lauren, without even bothering to keep a look out for any incoming librarians. it was a high school library for god's sake. did they really expect everyone to follow the rules? if they did, then they're a fuckton more ignorant than sharlene had originally thought.
sharlene scowled when lauren asked why she was doing here in the first place. she crossed her arms over her chest and slid down in her chair, so far that her tailbon was on the edge, "parents saw some test results, 'cause maddy was being all fucking goody and showing them hers. apparently i need to get my grades up or something. apparently it's important?" she shrugged, leaning her head back so it fell against the backrest of the chair, "but god dammit, studying is boring. and books are real fucking heavy. how do those scrawny nerds carry these things around? if i walked around school with all of these every single day i'd probably look like a fucking body builder." she said, nodding her head at the stack she had dumped onto the tabletop. who the hell needed to know everything in those things? it was stupid. sharlene didn't need to get good grades just yet. let her live her life.

They were being extremely loud in the library and this was going to get them both kicked out, but Lauren found that she didn't particularly mind. It wasn't like she had any obligation to stay inside this damned cramped place or something. She'd rather be in practice. She was a cheer leader, that was her thing. The library? Please. It wasn't like Lauren was an idiot or anything, it was just that her energy and time was spent on other things besides studying. Now that she thought about that, though, maybe she'd actually get top marks if she invested as much time on her studies. Then again, she could be doing so many more exciting things other than studying, really. And it wasn't like she was a problem student. She did great in most of her exams, really. Passed them. It was only Math. Fucking hell, Math.
"Ew, I'm not here because I want to be. I mean, Shar, I have cheer practice going on right now but I'm here in the fucking library wanting to burn everything down because I flunked math. What the hell?" There was nothing wrong with that whole picture, Lauren though. Her dads would certainly not mind that she failed math if she made up for it in other subjects. And they were proud of her achievement as a member of the squad and math, well, not really much of a highlight in her life - in any of their lives, really. "Thank you for saving my ass."
At this point, Lauren was just glad that Sharlene was here, that for some screwed up reason, the two of them had found themselves in the library. Hilarious, really. Who'd had thought to see the pair in the library, with actual books in front of them? Anybody who knew them would have probably had a heart attack at the sight of them in the library. But then they were loud and Lauren was sending curses everywhere and yeah, they were going to get kicked out pretty soon. Lauren batted her eyelashes at Sharlene from across the table and pouted, hating the thought of math and homework and why the fuck were they still here when they could just ditch?
"Sucks," Lauren said, shaking her blonde head at Sharlene's answer. "Not surprised, though, I mean...It's Maddy. Fuck, I'd probably be dead if I had a twin who was that ideal student and everything. I mean, the pressure and everything. How do you even hold up not wanting to rip her apart?" The last bit was a joke and Lauren's lips quirked up into a smile, green eyes twinkling before she giggled, not bothering to keep her voice down. Please, let a librarian tell them to shut up so Lauren could talk back to her and they could get the hell out of this library. She could always tell her math teacher that she got kicked out of the library if he saw her out practicing for this afternoon. "Studying, I mean. What the hell? What's the importance of grades, anyway? If anything, it makes out how stupid a person is, not how smart they are."
Lauren giggled again at Sharlene's remark about the nerds and she shook her head, looking around the library and spotting one, books stacked in her arms and bag looking heavy. "God, I'd hate to lug around a pile of books everyday. Just looking at this math book has got me wanting to beat a nerd up. I mean, sorry but seriously, who the fuck enjoys math?"

did sharlene give a fuck about whether or not they were kicked out of the library for being loud ass motherfuckers?
a) no.
b) of course not.
c) she wants to get kicked out.
if you answer was d) all of the above, then ding ding ding, you get a prize. absolutely fucking nothing. but seriously, sharlene didn't want to be in there about as much as the snooty ass librarians wanted her to be there. which was, you guessed it, not very much. lauren and her were pretty loud when it came to anything, and especially loud when it came to complaining. these two could be sitting in an empty well light, well ventilated and nicely decorated room and they'd still find something to complain about. it was a skill.
"aw, shit, cheer practice. forgot that was now." sharlene said, and then she leaned forward and placed her elbows on the edge of the table. she knew how much cheer meant to lauren and to be denied something like that...well, it was like denying sharlene her right to sew and she would've thrown a fit. she could only imagine the fit lauren threw that landed her in the library, "that just fucking sucks. i would've kicked the coach right in the nuts, but then again i don't think that would've kept you on the team." shar rolled her eyes, and then proceeded to taps her long nails against the desk. the sound reverbirated across the room.
'that's what i'm here for, sweetheart." she said, the sweetness rolling off her tongue but there was nothing sweet about their situation. they were both stuck in here and nobody was going to be able to help them with their grades. they could help each other? hah, like that was going to happen. they'd probably fail even worse than they would've working alone. no offence to either of them.
"don't get me wrong, i love the bitch to death, but i just wish she'd stop showing our parents our grades." which technically wasn't true. maddy only showed them her own grades, but since they're in the same grade level then naturally they'd ask for sharlene's too. kinda sucks having to give it to them, "it's not easy sometimes, but i love her. can't seem to hate her. it's weird." sharlene brought out her nail file and found a nail to perfect. the scratching was a little louder than necessary.
"ugh, i know right," she paused her filing to check her nails, and then went back to it as she talked, "we're only sophomores, for christ's sake. it's not like the world's gonna end if we enjoy ourselves. it's stupid." shar blew on her nails and then put her file away. there still weren't any librians trying to fuck with them. strange.
"fuck yeah i feel like beating up a nerd, ren." she said, maybe a litle too loud, and considering the place they were in, sharlene could've sworn she heard a couple of chairs slide against the floor as the people sitting in them left, "d'you think we'd get caught if we shoved their body in between selves?"

Cheer was something that kept Lauren sane - well, it wasn't as if she wasn't very, but she supposed that Cheer was that one thing that made school worth going for. That and terrorizing other students, it was always so much more fun when you laugh at another's expense. But cheer, well, if there was really anything you couldn't take from her, then it was her passion for dancing - and her ability to talk you down and scare the shit out of you but then again that's different. She looked at Sharlene across the table and shrugged her shoulders, glaring at her math book. Sometimes, studying was just such a cockblock to what she wanted to do. Right now she wanted to get out and go hit the mall with Sharlene - because she couldn't go to Cheer anyway, it was late and the coach would have told her to study, get her grades back up.
"Nah, I don't think he'd kick me off but I don't want to take the risk. What about you? Don't have anything to do? Drama or something?" Just as cheer was important to Lauren, drama and her art and fashion and everything else was important to Sharlene. Sometimes, it was odd how they fit, how they got along - some people think it's because they're both horrible people, so evil that they decided to team up to take over the world. Lauren thought that Sharlene was pretty special, not like everyone else. That and her ability to deal with Lauren herself (and vice versa), plus, she also can't deny that they are both pretty horrible sometimes, but hey, can't take over the world by knocking on doors and offering free cookies and brownies, right?
"Yeah, well," Lauren said, voice going all quiet for a bit. Siblings, right. She sure as hell wouldn't mind being forced to study by her parents, getting one upped by her sibling if it meant that she still had him. It wasn't such a sore thing to think about these past few days and she just opted to smile a bit, nodding. "At least you have Maddy. She may be annoying, but yeah. Can't say I hate her, either." Maddy was...Different, in her own way. She was just too much of a good goody sometimes that it was boring, infuriating, even, and that was where Sharlene came in - her polar opposite. But Maddy did do cheer and Lauren had to give her that.
She tugged at her math book and slipped it into her bag, knowing that there would be no studying that would be happening this afternoon. She smirked to herself, saying goodbye you little bitch to her math book before turning back to Sharlene, catching what she was saying and nodding. "Pretty sure the world isn't going to end if we went out to party or anything like that."
Sharlene's voice was loud enough to attract the attention of some nerds around them - they would have been stupid if they didn't recognize the duo. And one of them - both of them - voicing out their want to randomly beat up a nerd? Yeah, good to see them go. Lauren looked around, saw a few of them stand, gather their books and she pouted, but the idea of just randomly fooling around was fun. It wasn't like she and Shar were bullies - ew, that was just so unclassy. It was just that they got bored and they both had violent tendencies. Not bullies. Nope. "Who the hell cares if we get caught? Come on, let's go look for a poor, helpless little nerd. Offer them our assistance," Lauren stood up then and smiled, far too angelically, at Sharlene before taking a look around the library. Game on.

while lauren had cheer and dance, sharlene had her clothes. sure, some people thought she was weird for the way she dressed--with all the bright colors and the bulky accessories--but sharlene loved it. she adored the way she stood out in a crowd and the looks people gave her as she walked down the hall. (well, she preferred the way people looked at her while she was out shopping, because people in school tend to look at her in fear instead of admiration/disgust at her clothes. the people of new york seemed to like neautrals--greys and browns and blacks--and sharlene hated that. she needed to pop. and other people thought her eyeballs needed to pop.)
that's exactly what she could be doing right now--making more clothes and maybe even organizing up some of the project she'd been working on at home. there was a bunch of clothes lying around on the floor of their room and maddy was definitly going to scold her about when they got home. but how could she clean up? she was stuck. here. in the library. where she doesn't want to be.
"i've got a bunch of shit to do at home. my room's a fucking mess as usual, and if maddy wants to make sure her fucking toes aren't punctured with every step she takes, she shouldn't have dragged me here." shar drawled, tapping her long, painted fingernails onto the table again and letting out a frustrated sigh. it wasn't like the drama room wasn't as spick and span as sharlene wanted it to be. lauren just had to mention it. now sharlene's murderous thoughts were coming back. all the fucktards who didn't know how to do jack shit in drama club. yeah. those needed to go. unfortunately sharlene wasn't in a position of power and couldn't kick them out.
"it'd be so much easier if the cunt wasn't so fucking nice all the time." sharlene whined, but without any real anger at her sister. maddy was a nice girl and sharlene wasn't. it bring a while new meaning to the term "evil twin" and to be quite frank sharlene was pretty damn proud of her title.
"no shit it isn't. if anything, the world would be fucking rocked if we partied as much as we wanted to." and the chipper tone was back in sharlene's voice, even if there was an edge of cynical somewhere there, "besides, all you have to do to pass school is to not be stupid. pretty damn sure neither of us are stupid." and sharlene momentarily wished st a's curriculum was easier. but sharlene had always been up for a challenge.
"oh, really? mmm, little lauren's getting a little violent." sharlene said, the words sweet on her lips, and her tone excited, "i like it." she followed suit, standing up and letting the chair drag against the floor as she did. she made a quick once over across the room, and then her eyes landed on a particularly scrawny kid somewhere in the distance, "how about that one? seems like an easy target. maybe if we threatened him enough he'd give us the nerd secret of how to pass mat."
