aj didn't know how to react. even though he was pretty certain eddy wasn't asking him to fucking get married to him right now, the possibility still lingered in the back of his mind. no matter how stupid the idea was, this was eddy. and eddy monroe was famous for his stupid impulsive ideas. and aj couldn't help but stare at the ring on his palm, trying to process what else it could mean. aj looked up at eddy, for his answered, and ended up seeing his all smiles with his dimples very very visible on his cheeks, his green eyes shining.

okay, so maybe aj wouldn't object to being engaged to eddy. at least, not for long.

when edd explained himself, aj couldn't help but let out a short breath, "two rings." he mumbled, and then pushed the second ring out of the pouch. it fell on the soft skin on aj's palm, and the two of them glinted there, shiny from the morning sun. eddy probably ready aj's mind because there he was, explaining that no, he wasn't proposing, and aj couldn't help but chuckle at that. even if he didn't show it, aj loved how outrageous eddy was. it kept their relationship exciting, made aj loved eddy more and more, because who would love someone who was boring? not aj, and luckily, eddy was far from it.

aj just let eddy talk, because this was his gift, right? aj stared at eddy intently, laughing at the appropriate times and just letting a soft, sincere smile linger on his face. eddy had actually put so much thought into aj's gifts, it made him feel horrible. that he hadden gotten edd anything except himself. because really, right now, that was all aj had. it wasn't like he had money to buy eddy something nice, or the time because hello, he was busy with his family settling in, but still. excuses were excuses, and aj felt horrible for not getting eddy something, but at the time, he felt so so special that eddy went all the way for this. it made aj feel like he was worth something, whcih wasn't something he felt everyday.

chuckling at how eddy was trying to hard to find the right words, aj replied, once he'd finished, "i love you too." smiling bright and wide at his boyfriend, "and to be clear, i am yours. i can't even remember a time when i wasn't." and it was so cheesy and so stupid but it was how aj felt, and wasn't love supposed to be stupid, and reckless and comepletely unthought out? because this was love. aj was pretty fucking sure of it.

and then aj held out his palm, the one with the rings, and then shook his head at eddy, still smiling, "are you gonna sit there all day or are you gonna put the damn ring on me?"

The only thing Eddy could really think right now was, 'well, at least he's amused.' Because AJ looked pretty happy, all smiles and grins and blue eyes twinkling, his soft chuckles filling the whole room, the sound of it going through Eddy and making him just want to reach over to the idiot in front of him and crush him against him in a hug, arms locked tight around him because that in itself was a promise, holding him that tight. He watched as AJ looked at the two rings on his palm and he smiled a bit, shrugging his shoulders. "Yeah, they're a pair." And they came as a set, anyway - promise rings, right?

Eddy didn't even think of asking for a gift from AJ. He was a pretty sentimental guy and just having him here in Christmas, in freaking London with his mother - he'd taken him away from his family and Eddy was well aware of how things were back at home, how they were still settling in and jesus, he had a twin but he was here with him and, well, if that wasn't a Christmas gift in itself then Eddy had no idea what was, because he was pretty sure them here, right now, was a great gift - nothing could probably top this, he thought. Then again, both of them were constantly doing things that Eddy thought weren't possibly of topping (other ways of topping) - when it came to AJ, things were just new and welcome and inviting and at the same time, familiar, because he had him and even their fights before didn't really shake Eddy all that much now because that's probably what cemented their relationship, gave them that push to just, hold and hold and hold on tightly.

He moved closer to him on the bed then, kicking at the sheets and ignoring just how cold it was in the room already - it was probably twice as cold seeing as he was without a shirt, but whatever. He plopped himself back down right in front of AJ and smiled wide. He had no idea when he felt this happy - hah, that was funny, because every moment he had with AJ was pretty much just him being in his perfectly happy place - but this was different, though. Maybe it was just him but he felt like the rings and what they promised, symbolised, were intense. Eddy bit back his laugh - 'Can't remember a time when I wasn't.' and then ducked his head, hand covering his mouth to try and muffle the laughter. God, and he thought he could crank it up when it came to the cheesy lines. But he leaned forward, anyway, and nuzzled up close to AJ, curls probably all over the place but whatever. His fingers locked around AJ's wrist and when Eddy pulled back, he was smiling, cheeks a little bit pink. "Mine," Eddy said, face alight with content and voice coming out like a cute little purr, his thumb grazing against the inside of AJ's wrist, rubbing smooth circles there.

"You know, I think the ring can also stand as a sort of: If you hit on me my boyfriend will break your face. sort of thing," Eddy mused as AJ stuck his hand out. He took the two rings, sliding them both down his finger and then looking back at AJ. "Not that I'd break anyone's face or anything, but the threat would still stand." Because the lord knows just how easily Eddy had backed out of having his own face bruised and broken, thrown five hundred dollars just to literally save face. "But yeah, okay. That reminds me of a song." And he was really only rambling like this because he was nervous and seriously, Eddy would have sang that Beyonce song but he didn't, but instead took AJ's right hand and slipped the one ring for him off his own finger and then slid it down his, ring finger and all. "Okay." Eddy said, holding out AJ's hand to see how the ring looked. And, fuck if it didn't look perfect there. "Yeah, okay, now do me." On a different occasion, Eddy would have laughed at what he said but instead, he wiggled the ring off his finger (he'd slipped it on his left, okay) and then tossed it to AJ before reaching his right hand out. "I mean, my turn." Eddy repeated, biting the inside of his cheek to try and pull back his grin.

aj really wasn't used to gifts. it just wasn't a thing in the walker household, but eddy always made sure to get him something. it was always refreshing, knowing that there was someone who was willing to go out of his way to get him something and spend money on him. and promise rings. really. promise rings. it was so cliche and coupley but who was aj to complain when his stomach gave a pleasant swoop when he saw them?

when aj had broken up with eddy, happiness was just such a foreign concept to him. all he could think of was his stupid fucking father and how cj couldn't die and how much he was holding eddy back. he never would've imagined feeling like...this. like for once, the world wasn't against him. and that for once, maybe he deserved a little happiness after all.

aj had expected eddy to laugh at his painfully cheesy quip, and he did, so he just chuckled a little bit, looking down to hide the light blush that crept over his cheeks. but then eddy came in close, and aj melted into his touch. aj smiled back, wide and content. the boy in front of him was his.

"don't worry, babe," aj said, smiling as he stuck his hand out and admired the way the ring glinted in the morning sun, "i wouldn't let anyone hit on me," he looked like a young woman who just got engaged. and he felt like one too. the giddy feeling in his stomach couldn't have been a coincidence.

if any moment in aj's life was perfect, it would be now. look at it. the morning sun was light and pleasantly warm, and it bounced off eddy's pale cheeks beautifully, making his eyes shine and bright. the eyes aj fell in love with. the way he bit back a grin made aj lose control of his, and he just smile and shook his head, disbelieving that this...this was his life, and this was the boy he was with.

how the fuck does one perfect person determine so much of your happiness? aj doesn't know, but that's what eddy was. his happiness.

aj took the ring in his finger, and took eddy's hand. it was warm, and soft and just the perfect size for aj to hold. he loved how much bigger eddy's hand was compared to his, and he slipped the ring onto his finger carefully, their skin brushing as he did. when he finished, aj just kept in smiling, and then brought the hand up to his lips as he kissed eddy's knuckles softly.

"god, i love you," aj breathed out, his exhale spreading across the skin on eddy's hand. he brought eddy's palm to his cheek, and then nuzzled it, his eyes on eddy the entire time. yeah, right. this was what perfect was. all of this. and all of eddy.

eddy is perfect.
