When you rule and enslave people and you know that a certain percentage of your herd will rebel and awaken. You do not let an individual come along who may guide these people to the truth and possibly then become a threat to yourself. You get in there first and plant agitators and people who give the illusion of opposition (Temporal Coadjutors). This is exactly how the Society of Jesus works and this is why they've been veiled so well for so long whilst disinformation was spread to divert the herds attention.

Chavez warns US over Iran policy

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has warned the US that any attack on Iran will have devastating consequences and send oil prices soaring.

Mr Chavez, on a two-day trip to the UK, called for a socialist new world order and said nations were cowards for not standing up to the "American empire".

The US has not ruled out military action against Iran over its nuclear programme but is pursuing diplomacy.

Hundreds of supporters gave Mr Chavez a rapturous welcome in north London.

The president told the meeting in Camden, hosted by Mayor of London Ken Livingstone, that a US military attack on Iran would lead to Tehran cutting off its oil supply.

"If the United States attacks Iran... oil could reach $100 (£52) a barrel or more," he said.

"Moreover, Iran has said it would attack Israel, and I know they have the wherewithal to do so.

"This would be a terrible escalation and I do not know where it would end and I do not know who would get out the first nuclear bomb or how many people would die. No-one would be safe from this madness."

Mr Chavez said the US "doesn't know what to do" in Iraq, which he called "the Vietnam of the 21st Century".

Jubilant supporters cheered him, many clad in Venezuela's red, blue and yellow and banging drums, while hundreds more were left outside the packed ballroom.

Mr Chavez said capitalism was a "destructive" system and that "socialism is the way forward".

Mr Chavez called unrestricted free trade "a trap by the world's most powerful so they can keep the weakest in slavery".

Britain and a number of other countries have criticised Mr Chavez's moves to exert greater control over his country's oil reserves - the world's fifth largest.

On Friday Prime Minister Tony Blair urged Venezuela to use its energy resources responsibly.

The president's trip has been described as a private one - he has made no request to see Mr Blair or any government officials.

On Monday Mr Chavez will have lunch with Mr Livingstone, and will deliver a lecture in the evening.

BBC Americas editor James Painter says Mr Chavez's strategy for this trip is similar to the one he used when visiting the US in September last year. He does not meet government officials but rather appeals over their heads to appear as a man of the people.

Our correspondent says Mr Chavez does not want a "European flank" opening that would support the critical comments made of his regime by the US.

(AP) Venezuela President Hugo Chavez said Sunday he has received warnings from within the White House that the Bush administration is plotting to assassinate him or topple his left-leaning government.

Citing what he said were warnings from an alleged White House informant, Chavez told thousands of supporters at a campaign rally that President Bush has ordered him to be killed before he leaves office in 2008.

Bush "has said that before he goes, Hugo Chavez shouldn't be the president of Venezuela," Chavez told the crowd. "The president of the United States has said it, especially in recent days. What he doesn't know is that I have friends in the White House."

The Venezuelan leader has claimed before that the U.S. government is out to kill him _ allegations that U.S. officials deny.

The latest accusation came a day after he alleged that there had been a recent attempt to assassinate him and said those responsible had since fled to neighboring Colombia.

Chavez appeared to link the alleged plot to his main rival in upcoming presidential elections, Gov. Manuel Rosales of Zulia state, claiming that he is in constant danger from opponents seeking to get rid of him.

He said a sniper had waited with a long-range gun and planned to shoot him after he debarked a helicopter, he said. He did not elaborate further on the alleged plot.

Chavez vowed to win the Dec. 3 vote and continue governing this South American nation until 2021. "Fourteen more years, that's what's coming," Chavez said.

Venezuela's Constitution allows a president to be re-elected only once in immediate succession. If Chavez wins a second six-year term in December, he wouldn't be able to run again in 2012 _ without a legal change.

Chavez has floated the possibility of changing Venezuela's constitution to allow indefinite re-election.

Their puppet Chavez is buying the Soviet equipment with his newley socialized oil money so that they can use it as an argument to provoke another fake cold war, because he got support from Russia and Iran?

Shouldn't he use those 3 billion to the benefit of his country if he wanted to do anything different then the US President he tells us all about how he hates him?

- Get money for oil from the US (the US borrows from the Federal Reserve / private banking)

- Give that private banking money to Russia (pay the military industry / owners private banking)

- Don't use it for the people (instead for that purpose borrow new money from the Venezuelan Central Bank [owners private banking])

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) -- The most senior official in the Vatican after the Pope said he hopes to meet Cuba's acting president Raul Castro during a February visit to this island.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Vatican secretary of state, said his trip was at least partly related to commemorations of the 10th anniversary of late Pope John Paul II's landmark trip to Cuba in 1998.

""I am preparing a trip to Cuba in the month of February. I hope to meet the brother of Fidel Castro, who now leads the country,"" Bertone told the prominent Italian Catholic magazine, Famiglia Cristiana.

His interview was released to media before publication in the January 6 edition.

Bertone did not say if he also hoped to speak with Fidel, who has not been seen in public since handing power to his brother Raul after undergoing surgery more than 17 months ago.

ROMA - Israeli Ambassador Yosef Neville Lamdan is not the only Vatican observer to judge recent church diplomacy as disorganized and confused (look at the article of May 6, 2003, on this website). Another emblematic case of confusion took place over Cuba.

Here´s how the weekly Italian news magazine "L´espresso" (No. 20, May 9-15, 2003) described it:

Mario Agnes has run "L´Osservatore Romano," the pope´s newspaper, for almost 20 years. But in the last couple of weeks he´s risked losing his job over an incident centered in Cuba.

On March 8, "L´Osservatore" opened the floodgates on a series of articles on the island - seven full pages in four days - with three central characters: Fidel Castro, Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe and an abbess named Tekla Famiglietti. In a centerpiece photograph, the three appear in a joyous embrace against a background photo showing Castro and John Paul II embracing five years ago during the pontiff´s visit to the island.

Sepe and Sister Tekla are from the same Italian region as Agnes - Campania - and are lifelong acquaintances. But their closeness is more than geographical. If Agnes is today director of "L´Osservatore Romano," he owes it precisely to Sepe, now cardinal prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, but who at the time of the appointment was the director of the information office of the Vatican´s secretariat of state.

So, what did the cardinal go to Cuba to do? To inaugurate in Havana a Brigittine convent that was given by Castro to Sister Tekla, who is the Brigittine´s worldwide abbess. Agnes sent his top journalist, Giampaolo Mattei, whose dispatches told of a growing affection between the nun, the cardinal and the bearded dictator: the nun and Fidel "walking hand-in-hand," the former giving the latter the "Saint Brigitte" award; and the cardinal telling Castro of his and the pope's gratitude for "the generous opening and fraternal aid."

But at the inauguration ceremony, there was one marked absence: the archbishop of Havana, Cardinal Jaime Lucas Ortega y Alamino. The cardinal had reasons for not being there. He knew that Castro, even while the Cuban leader was charming his guests from Rome and broadcasting their mutual embraces, had handcuffs ready for about 80 opposition figures, mostly Catholics, whom he had arrested a few days later and in April had condemned to a total of more than 1,500 years in prison.

And the Vatican had been informed of it, but did nothing to put the brakes on Sepe, Agnes or Sister Tekla: That was enough to infuriate Cardinal Ortega and the other Cuban bishops. First, Ortega telephoned in protest to Cardinal Angelo Sodano, Vatican secretary of state. Then he flew to Rome. He saw the pope March 21. He also made a beeline to Cardinal Camillo Ruini to tell him that the aid the Italian bishops´ conference gave to Cuba was being played with by the regime.

Cardinal Sodano chastened Agnes and hinted at the loss of his confidence. But to no effect. When Castro´s roundup of opposition figures was reported publicly, "L´Osservatore" noted it in skinny little columns on inside pages. It wasn´t until April 27 that the paper put on the front page a two-week-old papal appeal that had been secret until then.

And Sepe? He used the pope to defend himself, saying April 29 through his spokesman Luca De Mata: "We hoped that ´El Máximo´ would have had the courage to open Cuba to democracy, but we were wrong." As if to say that John Paul II made the first mistake, thus absolving all who followed him.

The skies opened. Sodano got angry again and, to contradict Sepe, stated April 31 that neither he nor the pope "have at all repented from placing trust in Castro" and, in fact, continued to hope that "he leads his people towards new democratic goals."

And so, coming full circle, the secretary of state ended up by siding with "L´Osservatore Romano." On the same thing for which he had rebuked it.

CUBA. THE FIST OF ´EL MÁXIMO´

VATICAN CITY - We have to say that we hoped for change, that we hoped that El Máximo would have had the courage to open Cuba to democracy... We drew our hope from some of his openings, some of his acts, welcoming the Holy Father, authorization for the building of a new convent for the Brigittine sisters.

We hoped, even if the reports reaching us did not lend to hope. We hoped and we were wrong, holding our breath for something to happen. In this way perhaps we gave the regime the impression that its leader was covered by our silence. But we weren´t covering him; it was only charity, it was giving him a chance even to begin moving toward the rediscovery of his dignity.

But Fidel is using the fist of his salute against those demanding justice for the people, for the most elementary expression of democracy such as dissent.

The closed fist of Fidel, full of the flies of rhetorical populism whose buzzing filled the gulags with cadavers, continues to strike defenseless people.

SODANO: "THE POPE HOPES THAT CASTRO WILL BE ABLE TO LEAD THE PEOPLE TOWARD NEW DEMOCRATIC GOALS"

CASTEL GANDOLFO, Italy - The pope "has not at all repented from placing trust in Fidel Castro" and the Vatican will continue to "dialogue" with Cuba, despite its "delusion" following the executions and recent renewal of repression, said Cardinal Angelo Sodano, secretary of state.

Asked if the pope had repented placing trust in Fidel after Castro´s conviction of dissidents, the cardinal replied: "No! It is necessary in life to give everyone golden bridges to enable them to get out of the worlds in which they are imprisoned."

The Holy See is still convinced that a Cuban transition can take place that does not lose what good came from the Castro revolution: "Now the great hope the pope nourishes - and I personally nourish - is that Fidel Castro will be able to lead his people toward new democratic goals, with respect for the advances that have been made in recent decades."

The reports of the convictions and the three executions "were certainly a delusion for the pope and for many free people in the world" and "afterward the Holy Father expressed his own surprise and distress, and asked that the imprisoned be shown at least some gesture of clemency."

The Vatican will continue to push Castro toward democracy: "We - through the excellent nuncio we have in Cuba, Archbishop Robles, and through the bishops, especially Cardinal Ortega, archbishop of Havana - will continue this dialogue. The dialogue will never be broken, because in every person there is something on which conversation can be founded."

The cardinal explained that the John Paul II is conducting his dialogue with Cuba using the same "method" and "direction" that Paul VI used in dealing "with the heads of Eastern Europe, even when it seemed to be a dialogue without hope."

Venezuela's Chavez calls $100 fair price for oil

CARACAS (Reuters) - Oil prices at $100 a barrel are fair and Venezuela will do all it can within OPEC to keep prices high, President Hugo Chavez said on Friday.

Chavez said he expected crude to stay at its present levels in the medium term.

"This is not a situation that is a peak that then falls," he said in a televised speech. "We are sure of this and will do everything we can in OPEC to keep supporting the price of our oil."

U.S. light crude for April delivery was trading just below $99 on Friday, after a record rally over the last two weeks supported by an escalating legal battle between Venezuela and U.S. oil giant Exxon Mobil (XOM.N: Quote, Profile, Research) over nationalized assets.

Venezuela, the fourth-largest exporter of oil to the United States, has been a consistent OPEC price hawk.
