This Topic would make an ideal location for those who are new to Skills USA-Automotive to catch up with where we are on various happenings within the club...as well as a great place to post minutes of meetings that have occurred. If a member misses a meeting they can come to this topic and catch up. rolleyes.gif

9/9/2009...Meeting commenced at approx 530pm, with 25 students present (this number may be off, its what I have from the sign up sheet). Staff members directed this meeting and discussed the various aspects of the club. Officer elections were held for President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The results of the election were as follows: President (Tom Wilson); Vice-President (Wadell Young); Secretary (Thomas Elder), and Treasurer (Rebecca Dickerson). An email will go out with information to those who provided email addresses during sign-up and that email will inform everyone of this forum. It it suggested that members register and begin a dialogue on various topics to see where out interests lie. This should be very fun and we should all learn a great deal while we're at it. Please begin sharing thoughts and ideals now.

9/23/09 Meeting minutes

5:39 meeting commenced
discussed the forum, reviewed previous meeting
club dues of $20 are due by next week's meeting
handed out meeting itinerary
5:41 briefly discussed Committees, elections will be later on, possibly next meeting.
Subcommittees will be
S2000
Omni
Fundraising
Sponsorship
races start in spring, so we have all this winter to prep the cars for racing
5:45 Thomas took a rough time availability poll, I didn't get the numbers for that
discussed sponsorship
we should not make any promises to potential sponsors without first consulting with the rest of the club.
We need to make sure any sponsorship deals we make are equitable, and that the sponsors get what they expect, be it a decal on the car, a patch on our uniforms, etc.
5:52 more talk about the forums
5:55 more talk about committees
5:57 discussed the idea of tool or tips if you have a cool tool you want to share, bring it in to the meeting and tell us about it. If you have any tips on how to do something better or faster, share it with us.
5:59 next meeting set for September 30th at 5:50pm room to be determined
6:00 discussed club activities other than racing, including dyno runs and shop days these are privileges, subject to our club sponsors' willingness to spend their time off time with us
6:04 talk from Thomas on fundraising
6:05 Wadell reminds us to have fun and get to know each other
6:07 American Indoor Carting is opening a new location soon and it was suggested that we could have a club teambuilding outing and rent the place out for an hour or two just for us
6:11 several more fundraising proposals, including
a TCC student car show
selling pizzas in the lobby once a week (only on the Automotive Campus)
Selling doughnuts, slim jims
pumping gas and checking oil at service stations for donations
fixing and selling donated cars
a raffle
6:19 more car show talk. most are planned weeks to a year in advance
the week before Halloween was suggested because the weather is still good and people want to get out and do stuff
some time in spring was also suggested
a pit stop competition was also brought up as a fundraising idea, with a $1 fee per attempt at removing and replacing a tire
6:21 discussed team uniforms
ultimately we would like to have a nice two color race team shirt like the Tidewater Sports Car Club had on Sunday at the autocross we took the S2000 out to.
We may get patches and hats for now, or we may go with tee shirts
Next meeting set for Wed, September 30th at 5:30, location to be determined
6:28 meeting adjourned

9/30/09 Meeting minutes

5:31 meeting commenced
accepted dues and wrote receipts
discussed possibility of having a meeting at the Chesapeake Campus on Thursday, Oct 8th to raise interest among non-automotive students
Discussed ID cards
5:38 Discussed poker run in depth. Set date as Saturday, Oct. 17th. entry fee to be determined, possibly $10 and a canned good for a food drive.
Discussed fluid reclamation We will not be able to accept tires or mixed fluids because the school is charged for that by the disposal companies. We don't know if we will be able to accept batteries at this point. If we recycle fluids from the public we have to set a specific date and time (like when we are working on the cars) because someone has to be here along with a faculty member.
5:54 Discussed itinerary for this meeting, last meeting's minutes, and the importance of visiting the forum regularly.
5:56 Committee elections
Ernie is head of S2000
Rotimi is head of Fundraising and offered to work on Sponsorship too
Omni is currently still open
5:58 Discussed autocross at Little Creek Amphib Base on Sunday Oct. 18th. the S2000 will not be there this time, but several students will have their cars there, and Beno Reuben and David Lee will be there and may possibly bring their cars along. Event information is here If you want to go, (its free to watch and fun) sign yourself and your car up to get onto the base access list here
6:02 Discussed fundraising some more, finalized Oct 18th as date for poker run
Talked about making it school-wide or open to the public.
Prizes could be gift cards, etc
Considered having a cookout at the end point.
6:08 Discussed ending poker run at a restaurant, but decided to end it at the Automotive Center so that we can have food (provided it is not competing with the vending machines inside) and give tours of our campus. We are still investigating whether we are allowed to sell food outside the school building.
6:16 tool tip- laser temperature gun

Upcoming events
Friday, Oct 9th-11th NHRA in Petersburg info here TCC students get in free Friday if they sit through the US Army presentation in the morning. I'm not sure exactly where the details on this are, so check with your instructors.

10/21/09 Meeting Minutes

5:30 Meeting commenced
discussed meeting time, 5:30 doesn't work well for some interested students
5:33 Sunday, November 14th is our next event date, we will be reattempting the poker run. We think the last one didn't work out because we didn't give people enough notice and the weather was crappy. We are going to have participants register this time so that we know whether its worth it to have the poker run. The new flier is at http://www.yousendit.com/download/Z01NZHlwY3lubVUwTVE9PQ
5:37 This time we're going to try to get in to all the campus event emails instead of just the Chesapeake campus email. We have an email address set up for RSVP's at tcc.skillsusaclub@gmail.com
5:43 Our next meeting will be Wednesday November 4th at 5:30.
5:47 Omni update- It runs! It has no radiator or coolant, so it doesn't run for long, but its better than nothing. One of the classes is working on it, so we can't just go and tear it all apart again.
5:54 We should have some sort of fun club outing like carting. membership cards were issued to members who have paid dues.
6:01 The club can't own and insure the U-Haul like we had hoped, so it would have to be the school's asset. We or the diesel guys could convert it to biodiesel as a recruiting/pr tool and also hopefully use it to tow the s2000 to races.
6:09 we need a website for the s2000 project, we have a few volunteers to make the page, we just need a domain for it. We'd like to have a facebook for the club.
6:11 tool tip isopropyl alcohol can be used to clean windshield wiper blades to reduce or eliminate streaking. This can dry the blades out some over time though.
OBDII code readers are fairly cheap, scan tools tend to be expensive.
