If her sisters wanted to annoy her, Annie would do it (such an undignified moniker). Age: 20 Birthday: December 15, 1754 The Body Celebrity Face: Keira Knightley Hair: Light Brown Eyes: Warm Chocolate Physical Description: Her figure is certainly attractive to a gentleman's eye. She stands at 5 feet, 2 inches, a perfectly respectable height. If anything, she worries that she is too tall to appear both feminine and delicate. She is lean without being hard and though her breasts are small, her maid successfully corsets them into a size that is more acceptable and also draws attention to the smooth, white skin of her neck and shoulders. Annabelle is rarely in the sun long enough to allow her skin to darken, as she would never want to appear anything but the lady that she was born to be. Her face is a true oval, her skin clear and pale. Her eyes are a the color of a deer's, a dark, warm chocolate, and one of the few things about Annabelle that could be described as soft and dreamy. Though she takes pains to appear appropriately feminine, her efforts tend to make her look cold and harsh. Annabelle's lips are full and wide, something she tries to draw attention to by painting them, usually a soft pink. She is quite fond of them and has taken to pursing them in though, thus drawing even more attention to them. Annabelle's light brown hair is naturally wavy, making it easy for her maid to curl and style in the latest fashions from England. Though she tries to avoid the sun as much as possible and rarely ventures forth without some form of head cover, it has still managed to find her locks, streaking them with a honey gold, which, though she herself might not think so, adds a much needed dose of warmth to her appearance. Annabelle's attire is always of the most recent style, or at least as recent as they hear of in the colonies. She still writes to her English friends from finishing school, demanding to hear of the latest fashions. Annabelle loves lace, ribbons, and flowers and hats are one of her favorite accessories - she owns at least eight or nine. One of her father's favorite nicknames for her is Magpie, due in large part to Annabelle's penchant for shiny, sparkly gems. The Mind Personality: When things go according to her plan, Annabelle can be the happiest, most charming girl to be found. An excellent conversationalist, she is adept as putting everyone around her at ease. She is well versed in propriety and etiquette, allowing her to make introductions at parties in the utmost proper manner. She loves wordplay and admires others of great wit. She is very flirtatious, though she rarely does so intentionally. It is just such a great part of who she is that she is quite unable to help it. Unfortunately, this has gotten her into trouble in the past, especially in instances where young men read to much her actions, which has gotten her into some uncomfortable situations in the past. Sometimes flighty, Annabelle is easily bored and is not afraid to express her opinions. She dislikes reading and other activities she would classify as boring, preferring instead to spend her days chatting with friends, shopping, and writing letters to her English friends. As the daughter of one of Trenton's wealthiest and most powerful families, she has never feared that she would be reprimanded for her behavior. Annabelle, though thinking of herself as very lenient of those who are less fortunate in appearance, economic status, and personality than she, is actually quite critical. She has a very low tolerance for stammering, blushing, and stuttering. She is prone to gossiping about those she likes and even more so about the ones she dislikes. Though she likes to portray herself as worldly and sophisticated, Annabelle has led a rather sheltered life. Beyond stealing a few kisses from the sons of local families, she has little experience with men and the real world as a whole. Accustomed to being catered to her entire life, she thinks very rarely of the lower classes and their troubles, and includes the Patriots in with that mix. Having never wanted for anything, Annabelle can't fathom why anyone would desire change. She is very aware of both her family's expectations of her, what society expects of her, and what she expects of herself. She does not take well to those who do step beyond the bounds of propriety, even if a definition of that word would be difficult for her to formulate. Though family means a great deal to Annabelle, it might be fair to say that her social standing means more. Woe be to he who comes between Annabelle and her heart's desire. She is quick to judge without knowing all the facts and tends to take gossip as God's truth. If everyone says it, it must be true. She is also loathe to admit any wrongdoing on her part. In truth, she would be far more likely to attempt to convince others that she was, in fact, with justification rather than accept that she made an error. As far as love goes, Annabelle would like to believe true love exists, though she has never experienced it for herself. She wonders if it is possible for someone like her, in her position, to both marry well and marry for love. She thought she might have been able to find happiness with the oldest Thomas boy, but after that fell apart, she secretly wonders if she is doomed to spinsterhood. She alternates, however, between telling herself that things are better this way, and dreaming that their parents will come around and the engagement will be renewed. The first child born to Mr. and Mrs. Drake, of Trenton, Annabelle was raised with every comfort a child could dream of. Her parents doted on the girl and she had three years of pure, unadulterated adoration. With the birth of her younger sister, however, Annabelle was introduced to a previously foreign concept: sharing. From the moment of her young sister's birth, what had previously been Annabelle's now belonged to the Drake daughters at large. Needless to say, she did not master that skill with ease and in fact, she still slightly resents her younger sister for taking away what she viewed as her divine birthright (her parents' undivided attention). She did, however, bond with her youngest sister, Cissy. In fact, it was Annabelle who bestowed Cecilia with her nickname. At only four years old when Cecilia was born, she was unable to pronounce her youngest sister's name completely, resulting in the shortened form of Cissy. In time however, Annabelle grew into a beautiful and intelligent child. Quite precocious, she delighted in reciting her lessons to her parents and basked in the warm glow of their approval. The young Annabelle At the tender age of eight, she was informed that she was no longer allowed to play with certain children. Luckily, most of those on her parents' list were children she didn't particularly care for anyway. Though it was difficult to find children who matched the Drake girls in social and economic status, Annabelle did have a few friends whose parents, luckily, had politics that agreed with the views of her own parents. Just after her thirteenth birthday, in February of 1768, Annabelle was packed up and shipped to England, where she attended a girls' seminary, the very same that her mother, aunts, and grandmother attended. While there, Annabelle studied cross-stitching, French, German, water coloring, and piano-playing. She was quite talented at all of those skills and became very popular amongst the daughters of some of the most powerful families of England. When she was called back to the colonies by her parents two years ago, she was very disheartened and loathe to leave her friends. Still, the ever dutiful daughter, Annabelle returned home and was shocked to learn that her father had crafted a fine match for her with the oldest son of the Thomas family, a loyal and wealthy Tory family. Annabelle was, quite naturally, delighted, once she got over her shock and eagerly began planning her wedding (and getting to know her fiance). When their parents, however, were unable to come to an agreement on Annabelle's dowry, the engagement fell apart last autumn. Annabelle was crestfallen, but not heartbroken. She had been dreaming of the fine match to be made and had already ordered the fabric for her gown from England. Moreover, she had developed a healthy affection for the Thomas boy, an affection that still has not faded. Secretly she hopes that she will be able to regain his affection and has pleaded with her father to try and reenter negotiations with Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, despite the slight tension that has arisen between the two families due to the Thomas' continued association with Patriot families. -------------------- Annabelle Elizabeth Drake
