How come every time I say I hate book-turned-movies, people use LOTR against me? I SWEAR it's a conspiracy or something. I KNOW LOTR is the major exception; it's just that USUALLY the movies turn out horribly mauled.

...Geez. Whatever happened to not believing in absolutes for opinions?[/end whiny-baby rant]

I said Bourne too. And comics count as books too right? Yeah the new batman movie and the sequel that's coming out are looking awesome.

By the way, Eragon sucks.

The books or the movie? (And if you answer both, I heartily agree. Which makes me wonder why I have both books, but that's a different story.)

...And don't get me started on the movie. Freakin' trailer made my eyes bleed.

Both! It's so crappily written I almost couldn't stand getting through the first book. I haven't even touched the second book. It's a straight Lord of the Rings rip off. It even has a freakin' map styled in the way Tolkien drew it.

And the movie trailers, straight Lord of the Rings ripoffs as well.

But what really bugs me about the series is that whatshisface the author says that "all fantasy is derivative". Yeah, maybe inspirational but definitely not going to copy everything and try to change things slightly with fancy "elvish" words and what they call "character development".

Oh and his parents basically went around to random publishers asserting that he had talent.

WARNING: This post will contain or completely consist of violent flaming of the Inheritance trilogy.

Also interesting to note: The Anhuin River is taken DIRECTLY from Lord of the Rings. Grrr...Tolkien pwns Paolini, and the former is DEAD.

Claiming that "all fantasy is derivative" is not an excuse for being cliche. Neither is lack of imagination.

More reasons for why I hate the book:
--stereotypes like no tomorrow--and BLATANTLY, no less
--totally copied LOTR (Tolkien shifts angrily in his grave)
--it's CLICHE
--it's OVERDONE
--it's CLICHE
--it's CLICHE
--characters have no character, especially Saphira and Glaedr
--Eragon is a Gary-Stu (I could write a thesis on this one)
--Arya was probably styled after Paolini's dream girl, has no character whatsoever, is unoriginal, typical of her race, and is a Mary-Sue

My God, the last two REALLY bother me. Even I can write a non-Sue character with non-angsty development.

And now for the movie:
--Why, in all seven hells of talking potatoes, is Eragon and Arya blond? Oh, are they trying to portray the AMERICAN version of beauty with the golden tresses? Gee, too bad the book takes place in Alaegaesia (sp?); and so much for Eragon's brown hair and Arya's jet-black locks.
--please re-read the bullet point above.
--and that's all I could see from the trailer, but STILL...al;ghlaiupoasugh...

YEAH.

YEAH.

There are seven hells?

You know what's funny? All these fantasy "must go destroy the evil guy" movies seem popular thanks to Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and Bridge to Terabithia uses that/parodies that. Pretty funny stuff.

Oh and Bridge to Terabithia is an excellent movie by the way.

But yeah, Eragon pretty much takes any cliche possible and uses it while adding no originality whatsoever.

I like to think that Eragon is an example of "if your parents think you're a genius and go around asserting your "intellect", you too can be famous for doing some crap"

Okay, I'm going to stop quoting since we'll probably just end up with a big page-stretching quote pyramid.

Here goes:

Yes, there are seven hells. For talking potatoes and for humans.

Good and evil are such human concepts. The rest of the world just uses "survival of the fittest." ^^ Yep. So remember, boys and girls, those black monsters aren't bad, they're just trying to survive by devouring you.

Bridge to Terebithia...They MURDERED the poor book. I mean, the original book was called Bridge to TEREBITHA, for crying out loud. And the trailer...yeah, ripoff. No resemblance to the original story at all.

Anyways, dealing with an extremely annoying little brother who broke our new treadmill after one day all day tends to put you in the mindset for some ranting. Must...do...yoga.

And...I don't remember anything about the Deathly Hallows anymore. Death Note's taken over my brain.

Really, seven hells... muahahaha

HAHAHAHAHA murdered the book. Y'see, I knew a reaction like this would come out of you if you simply watched the trailer. The movie is absolutely NOTHING like the trailers HAHAHA. It's actually pretty damn close to the book with some minor changes here or there to fit the 2000's but really, just minor changes.

Yes. Seven hells and one heaven. Yep. Great odds.

If the trailer represents the movie and the movie is nothing like the trailer, then what the heck is the point of the trailer?! Geez. Accuracy should be counted as a virtue from now on.

But STILL...the TITLE. (Okay, so I'm going to lose the argument. I'll go debate with the talking potatoes now.) By the way...did Disney make the movie?

Haha I personally think that the trailer was made from two possibilities. It's either to garner attention by jumping on the fantasy movie craze or that they're parodying all the crap movies from this fantasy movie craze.
