"No, I don't." Marissa snapped back, losing her cool for a moment, before quickly remembering she was in public, with strangers no less. "I mean, of course, I don't really need makeup, but to be honest, why hide features like mine? Make-up enhances one. You should try some eyeliner." As with most things she said, the words sounded insulting, but for a rare moment Marissa was being honest: green eyes like Lily's should be enhanced.

It wasn't that Rissa chose horrid or heavy colouring; she choose shades that really did make her look better. Since she was 7 years old, she had carefully expieremented with her face, picking tones and shades that would make her beautiful and turn heads, but it was as it was, a mask to hide behind.

"Pardon me for wishing to look good in public." Rissa said bitterly, waving her wand absentmindedly so that a gush of warm air came out; it waved over her hair and clothes, and then almost as if on impulse- which was bizarre, since Marissa was very rarely nice to anyone- she pointed it in Lily's direction for a moment. "First appearances are last impressions."

James grinned widely and nodded, "Don't worry, I do." he said rolling his eyes. Shaking his head, he ran his fingers through his hair, fixing the damage Marissa did when she patted his head.

Letting out a laugh, he sighed, "Yes, but I know she'll come around, they all do eventually." said James. "Oh you will, will you, how about a date and I won't bother you again?" Snickering, he took a step forward. He still couldn't understand why she wouldn't want to go out with him. Sure he was annoying, but all the boys were, he was perfect for her.

James rolled his eyes. "Yes you think so, but if you really knew me, you'd know I'm not. And the only reason I'm like that is because I'm trying to ask you out but you keep denying me, and I'm not giving up." he said, flicking a piece of hair off his shirt. Seeing that Lily wasn't accepting his jacket, he slipped into it.

James's eyes grew larger and he stepped back. "Fine relax, I'll leave you two alone." he said with a annoyed expression on his face. Great what now? he thought. He was not looking forward to being in the castle all alone.

Lily rolled her eyes at James. Unfortunately, she thought bitterly, straining as much water as she could from her hair. When would the boy get it? She wasn't interested. Not now, not then, and certainly not in the future if he kept this up. It made her sick, watching the stubborn bane to humanity known as James Potter.

"They all? Can it be you've actually gotten a life and abandoned this nonsensical dream of yours for a moment?" Lily drawled. "And, trust me, I won't. I'd rather endure years of this torture than ever go on a date with you - if it was a choice between a hog and the giant squid or you, I'd take the hog and squid any day of the week. They're just that much more civilized than you are." She shook her still-wet head at him.

"Unfortunately - how many more times will I have to deny you before you take a hint," she hissed at him, her eyes flashing. With that, she turned back to Marissa.

Her red eyebrows went up, and she crossed her wet sleeves across her chest, tapping one finger. "So, by not wearing makeup, I'm hiding how I look and basically look frumpy and plain?" she said softly and contemptuously. "I'd say that burying your face in all those chemicals and pwoders is doing you a lot worse then me!" she snapped at her.

"I never said that!" Marissa retorted, stung and thus on the attack. "You look quite pretty without makeup, by why pretend that we're on this earth simply because? Oh, I wouldn't expect someone like you to understand, when my friends get here I won't have to explain anything."

She settled back against the tree with her arms crossed, looking very much a petulant spoiled child; the lake had resumed its calm mirror appearance and there was a very gentle, pleasent breeze bringing with it the scent of the Feast that was being prepared.

"Simply because? Do enlighten me - when did I ever make the slightest hint that I believed we were on the world simply because?" Lil half-snapped back, now flushing. "What reason would I have to not understand? Do you assume that, because I do not believe in the same philosophy you so reverently cling to, I have no chance on understand as though I were a common fool?[/b]"

Her face was steadily drawing closer to the same shade of red as her hair. How dare she - how dare she! Assumptions were hideous things - they usually said that one was either too lazy to explain or believed the other too stupid to understand. And Lily hardly considered herself stupid, hence the burning anger in her eyes. Just try me.

Rissa threw Lily a disgusted look; her kind feeling to the girl had quite vanished. "Spare me the dribble. I gave you a compliment, you idiot. Honestly, when I see Sev I'll ask him what the hell he's wasting his time on."

With that she got to her feet, straightening her clothes and fixing her hair, an eye out for bastard squids. This done, she made to flounce off.
