[center]First of all yet another thank you to Les for his hospitality.
I arrived on Sunday 23rd August for a 8 day stay, all on time and no holdups on the line. Sunday night saw us out for a couple of beers in the club. Alec came in a little later as did Simon our fisheries officer. We had a good crack about the state of fishing and club waters, and the usual extraction of water, LoL. Fishing now. Monday We went to the river trent at South Clifton. Its a tidal stretch and we got the tide just right, it was on the last ebb and the flood was due around 1.30pm. It was a bit of a walk to our pegs but we travelled light, bare minimun of tackle. We bothe fished the barbel rods, i had halibut pellets for hook bait, 14mm. I picked my spot and cast out. I did have a couple of PVA bags of feeder pellets left so they were attatched to the hook and cast out. However the fishing was slow, very slow. Npthing came to the bait until way after lunch time. My rod tip bounced and i struck, it gave a good account for its self, a bream of about 2½ lbs, and that was it, nothong else. Les landed a good sized roach. We had a fe visitors going past us, holiday long boats and a few cabin cruisers. Here's a long boat ![]() Day two, Lady Pit stretch on the river trent, its a non tidal stretch. We chatted with Simon our fisheries officer about the pegs, no walking to them on this stretch, parkk behiond and your fishing. We drove as far as we could as sduggested by Simon. Les and i both fished the feeder. I mixed two continental bags of groundbait laced with maggot, sweetcorn. Sweet corn and maggot were used for hookbait. We both began to feed in earnest. Every 5 minutes 9 or so we recast. ! Nothing, not a bream in sight. Altho the roach did show. Les got the most out while i managed only three and one perch, but it was yet another great day on the bankside on a cracking stretch of river. A few pictures Les on his peg ![]() And directly opposite my peg, the view .Day three This is usually the trump card for a good day,s fishing, today it was slow. The weather was terrible, very high winds and rain, but we were there fishing. We both fished the waggler I did manage a decent common of around 5 lbs or so, and a good few skimmers, rudd, and roach. Les managed a good amount of roach. Not many carp showed today The weather turned very nasty, gusty wind were spoiling the day, then the rain came, and the thunder. We decided to call it a day and run for cover, LoL. Day 4 Again back to Blyton, and yet again bad weather, high winds yet again spoiled the day. We did get fish, roach, rudd and skimmers. But no carp were showing, a strange thing indeed. Usually they take floating baits, i had floating dog biscuits on the feeder line, as did les. We both fished the waggler as our main line. Later during the day carp did show, but i think they were just playing with us, and totally refuse any offering we gave them. A few pictures taken obver the two days My peg ![]() And Les getting the kettle on ![]() Hurrah no wind or rain, second day ![]() Les an his peg, second day http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2111Custom.jpg And a typical roach from Blyton http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2106Custom.jpg Day 5 We popped into Warping Drain this morning, the stretch looked great, park and fish, however the wind was blowing straight into our faces on the pegs we had chosen, same further down stream, so we decided to fish Medge Hall Medge Hall. and yet another windy day. Yet again the wind was spoiled the days fishing. We did get sheltered pegs but the wind decided to swing full turn and started to blow into our faces, LoL. I fished the feeder with maggot, sweetcorn and caster for hookbait. Les was on the waggler. Fishing was slow, BUT we got a few fish out, mainly roach. Medge Hall offers very comfy fishing, good sized platforms and if your lucky enough, parking directly behind them. Day 6 Medge Hall We just had a few hour's here today. 4 hour short session. Weather yet again played a part, gusty wind, We both fished the feeder, Les got the same peg and i chose another. The fish, One skimmer for me and nothing for Les, Les has put his hook bait where he had caught fish from the previous day, but nothing ? strange these fish ? A few pictures My peg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2113Custom.jpg Day two peg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2118Custom.jpg A view of the water http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2114Custom.jpg And another view, les is in there somewhere. http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2120Custom.jpg And last of all, my last fish of the trip, a little skimmer, http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w167/25...F2121Custom.jpg In all another great week with Les, great fun with some great craic.
