With a few ideas and modifications on tables, we managed to bring back a system for Combat patrol for 40k. All which is left is some games to make sure the system works.
And for it, I made this list:

8. Marines / Icon of Slaanesh, 1x. Melta, Champion with Power weapon.

6. Marines / Icon of Slaanesh, Champion with Power weapon.

6. Lesser Daemons

Got two rather heavy armoured troops to hold objects, while Daemons would work as a chock troop if the enemy gets too close. How does it look?

It looks like a solid list. I used something very similar to this in a 500 point tournament a while ago, and it did very well. You might be in a little trouble against walkers, but I don't know how common those would be.

Wouldn't you be better with 2 units of 7 instead of units with 8 & 6?

Got the army tested a few times now. My experience? Well, daemons doesn't work so well as a shock troop. They tend to come in too early. However, they tend to draw fire to themselves, which saves up my marines for a few rounds. Imperial guards are still a hell to play against before you reach their line (with what little that survived).
