Europe:
Rumors still run rampant about the recent kidnapping of the long lost Andorran Princess, Rose de Castillo from a research institute in Anglia Massachusetts. Though her whereabouts were unknown until recently, the Princess was said to have been abducted by an ascendant tied to the Thelosian government, though nothing more than blurry photos and video exist of the actual abduction. In the wake of the incident, Andorran officials have refused to comment on the incident, saying only: "The Princess is now safe. Nothing else matters and we have no further comment." Andorran officials have also assured us that no charges will follow in the wake of the international scandal. Thelos has not yet released a statement about the recent disappearance of their ruler, believed to have occurred during an attempt to rescue Andorra's captured Princess.

Speculation runs wild as images of an alleged new military weapon captured in Moldavia by an amateur photographer circulate around the internet. The pictures show what appears to be a giant, spider-like machine being buried under rubble as an abandoned warehouse collapses around it. The provisional government of Trans-Dneister has denounced the photographs as an elaborate hoax.

In Russia, Mikhail Ignatiev of the National Party has won a landslide victory in the second-round presidential poll. International experts, who see Ignatiev as an extremely talented leader, welcome the outcome and hope he can bring much needed stability to the beleaguered country as its fifth president.

A while back, a few of us came up with an idea (though it was so long ago that I'm not sure how many remember :p) to do a "comic book style" thread, which will attempt to partially emulate the comic style of storytelling. Namely, each "issue" in the "series" will have a definite beginning and end, a clear goal for the participating characters, and hopefully feature fast-paced action, all mirroring the way comic books generally have between 20 and 30 pages to tell a whole story (or at least a chapter of a greater story).

Participants will take turns, in the order in which they signed up, setting up a simple one or two sentence goal for each "issue". For example, I might start with "go to the store and pick up some eggs". When the goal has been achieved, the next issue will start, with another person dictating the goal - say as the characters are leaving the store with their eggs, Ebon decides that Terrorsaurus Rex attacks, and the goal for Issue 2 is "defeat Terrorsaurus". In this way, it ends up working as a sort of chain story. Of course, one of the goals is to develop a broader storyline that encompasses the entire "series", even if that storyline doesn't immediately become clear in the first couple issues (which is how things tend to work in epic comic book story arcs).

A few more notes:

-Please don't sign up if you are not able to post at least once a week. A brisk posting rate is necessary for the fast-paced action we're trying to achieve. Of course you're not going to be kicked out or anything extreme like that if something comes up and you can't keep pace. I only ask that people who sign up for this have a mind to commit to it.

-Please do sign up if you've got idle characters sitting around that you're itching to get into play (or if you yourself lack something to do). This is going to be a great way to get involved.

-Participation is by player, so feel free to have as many characters as you want coming and going throughout.

-In fact, if it's your turn to direct the action and your idea requires a certain character (like a villain), and you don't have an approved bio for them, don't sweat it. NPCs come in handy in situations like this.

-Everyone in general, but people setting up the goal for a given issue in particular (and ME especially!), are encouraged to avoid lengthy lulls and unnecessary description of unimportant details (like 3 whole rounds of posting taken up by the characters riding the bus from Point A to Point B). As mentioned earlier, comic books have some very tight constraints to tell a story in, so the writers and artists working on Amazing Spiderman #30-Billion need to get Spidey into the action quickly - they can't afford to fill up the first five pages depicting every part of his morning "swing" through downtown New York.

OK, that's a long enough post already. I'll kick things off myself for the first "issue". Post here if you want to join in, or have any questions.

Will these threads bear on the main storyline of the forum?

That is a good question. I figured it could be a "time bubble" where the exact point in time that this all happens is up to everyone, so no one has to feel like they can't join other threads while they're doing this one, or that they can't join this one because the characters they want to use are in another thread. I haven't thought about whether it'll affect the main storyline, though. It really depends on what's going to happen, and nobody knows that. For the time being, maybe we should assume it will affect the storyline, then if something comes up that we're really not sure about, we can re-evaluate then.

Tales of Interest #1 is now posted in the "What If?" folder. I started with Gamma Strike, since most of the people who signed up have primarily GS characters. In Ebon and Striker's case, you guys can feel free to have DJ and Domerin tag along. If not, bring in another character who happens to be in the right place at the wrong time :p

I'm also leaving this open for new people to join until the end of the first "issue".

Last but not least, the one- or two-sentence objective of ToI #1: Find and apprehend Cameron (preferably alive, as I'd like to be able to play him later :p)

Frosty, I think we need to see a picture of this "Cameron" kid. So we can visualize him. And such.
