... Character of the MonthProfessor Stevens'After a rather long wait, we've got our next Character of the Month, for the month of June! This time it's a rather odd winner, but all the same, give it up for Professor Stevens! Though he's an NPC, Stevens still boasts a rather amusing sort of personality. Eternally happy and always wearing that lazy smile, the Prof takes crap from all incoming trainers, without breaking a sweat. Either he enjoys talking to other people, or he has the patience of a saint. Or perhaps both. Seeing the fact that, from what we know about him, he is restricted by some greater power, he is unable to leave the establishment in which he works. So, he occupies himself by reading manga volumes and watching anime episodes on his laptop and keeping himself up at night with a little help from his coffeemaker. All in all, the Professor is either an extremely light-hearted, cheery guy, OR is extremely good at acting. But congrats, old man! Your hard work has not gone unnoticed! Cheers!Estrella Lab

As all RPG veterans know, your character registration is perhaps one of the most important parts of your entire RPG experience. Here, you're forming the foundation for the rest of your journey, by creating a character that will go through a number of diverse scenarios; their persona determines how they will act in a given situation, and ultimately, will effect their existence, as well as the existences of others around them.
Now if I have freaked you out or intimidated you already, then my job is done and you should leave now. ... No, I'm only kidding.
Whether you are a role-playing veteran or a neophyte at this whole business, you can easily make your own character application, and have it approved, assuming you follow the guidelines presented in this topic.

+ In-depth Application Requirements.
Basic Information Full Name: Last Name, First Name Alias: Nickname(s) go here Gender: m/f Age: Can be anything, save negative numbers. **However, it is recommended that your character is a bit older, such as in their late teens, twenties, etc. In this way, your mod can go all out with the plot twists and events that will happen on your journey! Occupation: Trainer or Coordinator? Race: Generally only for non-humans: Pokemorphs, Anthros, etc. After all, Mascarilla draws potential trainers in from all kinds of worlds; it'd be silly for humans to be the only thing out there, neh? ;3 The two mentioned have been confirmed as acceptable, though if you have another humanoid race in mind you'd like to play a character of, please feel free to contact Biohazard or Wyrdfayth about it, and chances are pretty good we can find a way for you to do it. ^^
Physical Description
[Picture goes here] [picture is OPTIONAL] [can be animé, real, hand-drawn, etc.]
Character Description: Even if you have posted a picture of yourself, it's always a good idea to give a general description of your character. A picture is worth a thousand words, after all; what one person may see may not be the same thing that you see in your character's appearance. It doesn't have to be of Harry-Potter proportions, but it should be detailed enough to give your reader a pretty clear idea of what your character looks like.
Write around a paragraph for this section. That's like, what, five sentences? Not too hard, hopefully? (You don't have to overkill like I stupidly did, unless you really WANT to, of course).
Personality
Description: What is your character like? What are his/her defining character traits? What are their strengths? What are their flaws? What do they like? Dislike? Fear? All of that goes here. Once again, give enough info, but don't write a novel. Quality > Quantity. And definitely don't write a measly two sentences. Idols/Role Models: Your character may or may not look up to somebody. Everyone needs a little inspiration, eh? Favorite pokémon: Pretty self-explanatory. Can be more than one. As to why I'm asking you this...fufufu, read further down.
History
Place of Birth: Any place, any place at all. Family: Father, Mother, Siblings, Other Relatives. Marital Status: Single, Married, Divorced, Widowed Acquaintances: Any old friends your character had? Or was he/she/it completely friendless? Name them here and briefly explain their relation to your character. Adversaries: Enemies, rivalries, antagonists; name them and briefly explain their relation to your character.
History: Minimum of 700 words. I know, it sounds like a lot but it really isn't.
Forgotten Memories: If you've been reading the topics regarding the RPG, you'll probably have an idea as to what this part is about. Essentially, here you can post the segment(s) or your memory that your character has misplaced/forgotten. However, you DO NOT HAVE TO POST THE MISPLACED SEGMENTS HERE. You can keep it a secret from the Admins/Staff/Other Members. So, this section is optional. If you want the Admins and everyone else to know exactly what parts of your character's memory are missing, post them here. If you want to keep them a secret and reveal them slowly as the RPG goes on, feel free to!
Role-Playing Sample
A role-playing sample, so the staff may gauge how advanced an RPer you are. You may copy and paste a sample from another site, or you may make one up right here.
Cellphone color: Each character gets a brand-new cellphone slightly reminiscent of a RAZR. It has all the things a cellphone needs to have; camera, mp3 player, texting, etc. etc. Each member of the RPG gets one, in order to keep in touch with people you encounter throughout the game and to get notices spread across the whole Mascarilla Region network.
Pick a color, any color at all.
Hopefully that cleared matters up. If you are still confused, chances are you need to read up on the site rules and plot details first. If you did, and you're still confused, don't hesitate to PM a staff member or post in the Questions Forum. Thanks!

+ The Point.
Upon reading all that information, and perhaps sending a few choice curse words in my direction, you must be wondering what the whole point is of writing up this application in the first place.
Well, here is your answer, nice and bold:
The quality of your application determines the quantity and quality of your starting materials.
In case you didn't get that, here's another way of putting it: the better your profile is, the more goodies you start off with. What are these goodies, exactly?
Starting Materials
Starter pokémon: Well no kidding. The most important part of the whole journey, isn't it? Your starter pokémon is determined by the quality of your application. If you have a great profile, chances are you'll get really good starter choices, maybe even your favorite pokémon as one of the choices. Have a half-assed Profile? Prepare to get half-assed choices. Specifically one that starts with an 'M' and ends with an 'agikarp.'
As a general note, the types of pokémon you will receive are usually based on the information you provide in your Profile, such as your character's appearance, personality (ESPECIALLY the personality), history, and quality of your RP sample. For example, say you have a character with a very hot-headed personality. You may get a fire-type pokémon for one of your choices, or something like a Mankey (which is an extremely hot-headed pokémon).
But PLEASE, don't outright state in your Profile what you want. If you say "Billy is a really great guy who was really hoping for a Pikachu as his starter" you're not getting it. If you have the word 'Pikachu' in every single damn sentence, you're not getting it. Bottom line? Be subtle. And sneaky. We love sneaky.
Money: But of course, how can you survive without this? It's absolutely essential, and can be used for anything, from purchasing to bribing. The more money you have, the more respected you typically are, and you are more likely to get out of sticky situations (usually via bribery). Oh yeah, and you can buy stuff.
Max quantity: $ 5,000
More 'Goodies': This is a general one; assuming you put effort into your profile, and into your RPG posts as well, you are more likely to get more interesting plot twists presented to you. Remember, to advance the plot, we want people who RP very well, and thus can react to presented situations in an appropriate and interesting manner. Hint: For this, we'll generally look at your RP sample and your RPG posts in general.
Incentive enough? I certainly hope so.
Bottom line is, just put effort into your Profile. I understand none of us is J.K. Rowling, though that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least try. It is very easy to tell who tries and who doesn't. As long as you try, you're pretty much set. So now all you have to do is try to survive the RPG. No pressure, really!
And a final little note, if I'm particularly picky or blunt, please please don't take it personally. I'm just concerned about the quality of the RPG. I don't mean to hurt any feelings, and if I do, I apologize greatly. This is the ONLY place where I'll be picky. Otherwise I'm pretty lenient.
So after registering? Pssh, you're all set and ready to roll~

+ And Finally..
At last, you've finished your profile. So what happens next?
Simple. A staff member will read through your profile, and depending on the quality, he/she will reward you with your starting quest materials. From here, you must post your own Profile in the Profiles. forum. A staff member will NOT do this for you. Take a look at the profile format before you post your profile.
What your staff member WILL do, however, is post the 'Items/Etc.' pages for your Profile as you capture different pokémon and obtain different items. So your Profile page should be a total of three posts, two of them posted by you, with the last one posted by a staff member.
And remember: once you post your Profile, put a LINK to it in your signature, as well as a link to your journey. It helps make life much easier for everyone.
After that, you're all set to begin. Post in the starting point you chose, and from there goes the ongoing cycle of posting and replying.
