I'm going to the hospital tonight for a Sleep Study to see if I am suffering from Sleep Apnea. I had undergone treatment for this awhile ago and kind of let everything slide so now it is time to take care of it. Anyone else have this affliction?

My husband does, and by association I suffer too. If he sleeps in certain positions, he will stop breathing for 10 - 15 seconds, and then start again with a snort/snore/bounce, usually waking me up. It's scary.

Supposedly there is a connection between apnea and weight, but his Dad had it too, and he was as thin as a rail.

How did your tests go?

It was ok - a little weird to not be home and I was a little anxious about Mia but I slept ok and now I have to wait a week or so for the results. We'll see what happens!

Well I got a call today from the doctor with my sleep study results. A little nerve wracking. I stopped breathing 25 times every hour and twice during the night my oxygen level dropped so low that "if we had turned the lights on you probably would have been blue". Gee thanks for the good news.

So now I have to go back and have another sleep study with a machine that I will then have to wear every night. Hmmm...maybe I can name it and it will become the pet I've always wanted! Or gee maybe it will scare the heck out of my daughter and she'll have psychological issues for the rest of her life?

Oh well - maybe I'll be able to breathe!!!

Pat, It sounds like you are talking about my DH. Sometimes I wake up inthe middle of the night for no reason (okay, to pee) and when I try to go back to sleep he does the "not breathing" thing and there goes the rest of my night.

I think weight is an issue but my SIL has the headgear thing and she really isn't heavy, just scary when she wears the thing.

Heather, a word of warning...introduce Mia to it before you start to wear it because my SIL's grandson freaked when he saw her in it and took a while to get used to it.

Thanks for the heads up Janet! I can imagine it must be kind of scary - you suddenly look like an alien!

Heather....how are you doing on the machine? My dad had to go on one, and he is having nothing but issues with it.....which in turns means mom is having issues and today I had issues. Dad moved to couch to give mom a break....nice of him to do that.....because of Gryffin I sleep with my door open...SO I COULDN'T SLEEP!

Yeah, it's been tough......they told him he stopped breathing 79 times an hour until he went into rem sleep and then it was 127 times an hour. Pretty scary!!!

April/Janet -

I sympathize with you both! It took me about a month to adjust to the machine but then it really helps. The weight loss has also really helped - I didn't take the machine on the cruise with me and I only snored a couple of times. Once he adjusts to the machine, you'll all notice a HUGE difference!

I hope it gets better!

He already hates his second mask and he has to test them on the weekend so I can sleep on the couch while he tries them. So far no luck. I sleep on the couch because he says I sigh too much because it makes noise, so he takes it off. This time I asked him to get like 6 different styles and keep trying them until he finds one that works without having to drive 45 minutes to pick it up. If we're gonna pay $1700.00 to extend his life I want to at least have him use the darn thing! wickedwitch.gif with a "B"

Janet - has he tried the nasal pillows? They are the only things that I find comfortable and don't make me feel like I'm being suffocated. That is probably the worst part of the whole thing - the adjustment to the mask, I hate having anything on my face like that but the nasal pillows do the trick!
