CRASH CRASH BURN
It had been several weeks that he had spent in the infirmary. First to figure out exactly what had happened top hi,m. As if the broken leg had not been enough, It was also the fact of where the heck had he been for 3 years. And why for the first couple of weeks when he was awake.. could he not explain where he was and why he was so damn happy to see his friends... his family. While he had bits and pieces in his head... all he could remember was that it was a bad place. That there had been few mutants left... and the very last thing he had remembered was saving some children. And then a bright light, and explosion. Excruciating pain. And waking up on a stretcher being wheeled into the infirmary.

He hobbled into the elevator, the crutches still something he was going to have to use. Since he had broken his leg in several places, the pins holding his leg together were still sticking out of the halo device that encircled his leg, up to his thigh. The material of the halo was whatever resistant because one of the things he had been asked to do, of course with help, was to see if he could access his powers. He could... so the halo had been made to withstand that. Not like he was going to be going anywhere soon. All Dr McCoy had asked him to do was heal.. and maybe try to remember.

But being out of the infirmary was a relief. He needed to get outside. He needed to be reassured that he was back in his time, dimension.,.. whatever. So when he had been given the OK, he had literally leapt out of that bed, with a bit of hobbling included. Got dressed... as much as he could since the sweats he was wearing had been cut so that one leg was short to accommodate the halo, while the other was just a normal pant leg. he just needed to be able to either go outside, or look out the window. That was all he wanted.

The elevator had opened, expelling him out into the hall where he could hear people moving around. School was still in session since this was a place where kids lived year round, they did not have a normal session. Classes where all the time, with whomever wanted to learn. As he slowly made it down the slippery hall, he smiled as he remembered his days there. Good times, he thought as he paused at one of the large windows, leaning on the crutches as he looked out.

going through the motions
loosing all my drive I can't even see, if this is really me and i just want to be Alive.

Derek had been at Xavier's for almost a year now, He could hardly believe it had been that long. Moving from place to place had become second nature to him, proud to have broken the habit. He was seriously considering a party, though most likely by himself because it was a dorky thing to celebrate. This thought made Derek smile to himself, he was on the ground floor it was a place he liked to go and think. As most people were in the kitchen, the common area, or didn't stay for too long and just used it to pass through, he found the somewhat invisibleness that it had amusing. You could hear people moving around and mumbling voices but for the most part it was nice and quiet compared to other places at the Institute.

He been there a while when he heard the elevator door slide open and a man in crutches hobbled out and paused near the window. Derek knew who that man was instantly, Sam Guthrie, he had come in a couple of week ago and been in the infirmary for the most part. Derek had only meet him briefly when helping out in the infirmary, but other than that he didn't know Sam as he was on the team and disappeared before his time. Sam was just staring out the window, Derek noticed that Sam was kinda cute which probably meant he was straight. The poor guy had a broken leg with some contraption to stabilize it or Derek assumed was to stabilize it and all he could think about was that he was cute. He really need to sort of his priorities.

"Hey you're Sam right?" Derek said walking up to him. "Did you just get out of the infifmary?" Even though he was pretty sure that Sam had just in fact come from there, he found it better to ask the assume, and there weren't to many places down below were he would be. Derek smiled at the man but felt a little sad for this him, he could only assume that a broken leg painful. That and he looked weird in those pants, one leg was long with the other one short, Derek didn't really care to much for the latest fashion and he wore what was comfortable, but Sam looked ridiculous.

"Do you remember me? I helped out in the Infirmary a couple of times" Derek asked. Though he doubted that Sam remembered him, he was probably more focused on healing and trying to figure out what happened to him. It must be strange to have three years of your life missing, though his mind could just be blocking out what happened to him. Derek's head swirled with different question about what happened to Sam and why he couldn't remember, he could only imagine how Sam felt. If it was Derek who disappeared he would have gone crazy with questions and pulled all his hair out by now. He wondered how Sam we so calm and put together.

CRASH CRASH BURN
The device encircling his leg itched, and he knew that scratching it was not going to stop it, so he did what he could to ignore it. He knew he must look a sight, with on pant leg regular, the other cut to accommodate the metal contraption. Well he thought it was metal, but until he could have the pins removed from his leg, he would have to wear it for another few weeks. Being in traction was not much better, as he was now mobile... but he was alive. And he thanked god each and every day for that. Since he was home now. And not int hat... place where it seemed he spent a lifetime.

But he stood looking out the window, still amazed that things were so.. ..beautiful. So... peaceful. Despite how the world was outside the school walls, it was quiet, and he did not worry about where he was going to sleep. Or if he would have something to eat. And he had been able to sleep at night, not worrying about keeping one eye and ear open for anyone coming to attack him, and the small children he had been protecting. Sighing softly, he wondered if those children were alright. He hoped that they were because it did eat away at his heart not knowing. But as things still came in flashes... he could only remember the fear he felt. The adrenaline from keeping himself and those he had vowed to protect safe.

He could still hear the cries, the orders shouted across the battlefield. The city in such a state of ruin that there were few places to hide. Days spent inside, hiding. Nights spent moving around to try and find someplace safe to stay for a few days. opening his eyes, they were met by the sight outside the window. A day where the sky was blue, where he could see kids running around past the window as they chased each other. That sense of feeling safe. he hated not being able to protect those he vowed to. Leaning on the crutches, he just kept looking out... and remembering.

he knew they wanted to know, but as he was not yet ready to speak about it, he turned when he heard someone. "Yeah... and Ah just did. Dr McCoy was gettin a bit irritated with me since ah kept askin ta leave." His accent was pleasant, his voice deep. Everyone knew he came from Kentucky like his sister Paige. He was the oldest, and it was common knowledge that he was missing for 3 years. he smiled a bit and nodded. "Yeah... Sorry ya got stuck with me. I don't get hurt much and well.. yeah. Sorra if I was a dick to ya." he had been confused, hurting and then doped up pretty good when they brought him in. "Yer Derek?" There were so many new faces at the school that he was going to have to take a couple weeks to remember everyone's name.

The time spent helping out at the infirmary hadn't been what Derek expected, from the average cuts and scraps to the more serious injuries like Sam's case. At first while working Derek thought that he was always in the way but slowly he began learning from Dr.McCoy and then actually felt like he was helping people. He didn't realize it at first be he had started acting like an x-men, even when the uniform wasn't on. When first arriving he couldn't understand why everyone acted so selfless and giving, but it was easy when so many people needed help around here. While this was nice, Derek at times missed being a little bad.

Derek had seen pictures of Sam, in everyone he looked happy and at peace. The man standing before him now seemed to have aged more than normal, even now when answering his question Sam had a edge to his voice and they way his face moved gave Derek the impression that he was deep in thought. It reminded him of someone who had been to war and was having a hard time dealing with what happened.

"Well I think anyone would want to get out of the basement. I mean you had been there what three months." Derek noted with a smile. "Personally I don't think I would have lasted that long." Derek added looking out the window at the beautiful view. He wasn't even sure if he would ever need to been a the infirmary for that long, his mutant powers could save him from most life threatening injuries, which had saved his ass on more than one occasion.

Sam didn't need to apologize to him, he found it odd at first then thought that he was just being nice. "No, you weren't that bad." He said laughing a little. "Or at least compared to the girls. They are the worst." He said remembering the time he had to dodge a kidney-shaped pan thrown at his head. Derek didn't take it personally these people were in pain and usually took it out on the help and not McCoy who actually helped them.

"Yes, I am Derek Karstan. Been here about a year. It is nice to officially meet you." He said sticking out his hand to shake Sam's. It was nice to see him up and about instead of stuck in the basement. Derk didn't like being down there too long, it felt dark and secluded without any window. So he could somewhat understand Sam's need to escape. "If you ever need someone to talk to, I'm always here." Derek said with a sympathizing smile. He was sure that Sam had a handful of friends here, but sometimes it is easier to talk to a stranger.
