I am now in Slovakia and the Skoda looks good. It has been laid up for a long time and has already plazed up a little - perished clutch flexi.

The thing is, it doesnt have the 136 engine i was expecting. Instead, it has one of the cast iron head jobs. Lead replacement fuel is available here but wont be on the rest of the trip. They tell me that i will need to use a fuel additive. Is this right or can i get awaz with the normal 95RON unleaded

Bit nervous now

Hey dont knock the 130's by far more reliable than any 136 engine!

You will need to put additive in the tank. or use a fuel catalyst like powerplus or broucket.

Thanks Skud,

As it turned out, a few other problems presented themselves - things related to the poor bloody thing being laid up for such a long time. In the end, i took the advice of my Slovak chums and got trailered to the Austrian/Italian border. I oly had to drive 600km or so to Genoa, where i'm writing this. In Slovakia and Italy they still seel lead replacement fuel, so all's OK.

I took things very easily and the only snag that i had was a dodgy windscreen wiper motor. I am booked onto this evenings ferry to Barcelona where i then board another boat to Mallorca.

It has been getting on for 20 years since i drove a rear engined Skoda and i think i completely forgot what it was that i loved about my old one. The car is an absolute treat to drive, it's a much more raw and natural driving experience - you have a very direct relationship with the car.

I know that some of the members frown upon this type of customising to an old and rare car but everywhere i went, people got out their phones and started takig snaps - everyone loves the old girl!

Anyway, i'm only waffling because i have time to spare, so i'll sign off.

p.s.

Anyone want a 1969 s110 in perfect condition with about 2000km on it? Paint's dull but i'm told it's perfect apart from that.
