|Welcome to Rivyn, a post-by-post roleplay! We are a community of authors eager to share the experience of creating characters and writing as part of a community. Rivyn is a high medieval fantasy RPG with limited rules and lots of opportunities for creativity. Dragons, elves, werewolves and magic abound. Welcome!

The air has begun to battle with itself, each new day bringing either chilly winds or warm sunshine across the land. Rain and storms come with frustrating frequency. The Heartland will find the leaves slowly turning brilliant shades of red, yellow, and gold. However, the breath of Autumn reaches the East in a somewhat delayed manner, and the air is warmer and crisper there until much later in the season.

Our biggest goal here is to make a free, open environment for roleplaying. That being said, we do have to put the basic rules and restrictions on. So please read the following before joining your character. Hop over to the Mechanics thread as well to learn about some of the game-specific mechanics and events. We're always open to suggestions, so feel free to drop an admin a PM if you would like to see some rules or mechanics added, changed, or even removed. |
-Please make only one account with a username referring to yourself. In other words, use your OOC name rather than a character name. You will post all of your characters from this account.
-Please do not create over-powered characters, and you may not control any character but your own. (a.k.a: No godmoding/powerplaying)
-NPC's may be created and controlled by anyone.
-This site is rated PG-13, please post tags in the description if your thread contains anything mature
-There is no word count minimum
-That being said, please try to match the length of your posts to your posting partner, and refrain from dialogue-only, 15-word style posts.
-Please proofread your posts
-Please read all rules and concepts before joining
-Fill out the form and post in the join forum. You may organize your join post in any way, but it must contain all the information requested on the form
-Wait for admin acceptance before you begin posting
- You may join your character with whatever magic you wish, but the admin who accepts your post has the right to put limitations on your chosen magic to avoid over-powered characters.
- No mind reading of any kind is possible in this world. To quote Severus Snape, "The mind is not a book, to be opened at will and examined at leisure. Thoughts are not etched on the inside of skulls, to be perused by any invader. The mind is a complex and many-layered thing..." And there are no Legilimens in this world.
-Rather than pre-established kingdoms, there are regions defined on the map.
-Players may create cities and landmarks. These may be added to the map with enough approval.
-A city that a player rules will grow with number of citizens. A city could conceivably command an entire region.
Characters are dynamic, and we realize things change. If a major change occurs in your character's life, all we request is that you post under updates. This includes:
- Getting a dragon
- Requesting a familiar to manifest
- Change in class
- Acquiring new powers (like turning into a vampire)
- If you're not sure, post it!
This is mostly for recordkeeping, so we know to add a dragon or change a species in the database.
You will notice, if you just joined, that your title says "apprentice." We have a ranking system here, based on post count as follows:
Apprentice : 1 to 09 posts
Journeyman: 10 to 49 posts
Copper Master: 50 to 99 posts
Silver Master: 100 to 199 posts
Gold Master: 200 to 299 posts
Dragon-watcher: 300 to 399 posts
Dragon-rider: 400 to 499 posts
Dragon-tamer: 500 to 599 posts
Dragon-master: 600 to 699 posts
Rivyn Native: 700 to 999 posts
Rivyn Elder: 1000 to 1499
Demi-God: 1500 to 1999
Rivyn Divinity: 2500+
This is all posts. OOC, IC, etc., because we feel that being involved in the community is beneficial as well. The advantages to gaining ranks are mostly intangible things. Bragging rights, respect, etc., though when we look at things like promoting mods we will certainly be looking at your rank.
The moderators also have ranks! Do not ask to be made a Council member or Captain. If we need these positions filled, we will ask for applications.
Council - Can close threads/move threads, answer questions, greet newcomers with a personal message, etc.
Captain - Can do all of the above plus edit the member list, change weather, accept new players, etc.
Commander - The admins. All of the above plus, y'know, they run the place.
I am not a huge fan of rules and limits, but some are necessary and even beneficial.
A character limit was suggested, we voted on it, and decided to implement a character limit based on rank. The limits are as follows:
Apprentices: 1 | Journeymen: 3 | Copper and Silver Masters: 5 | Gold Masters +: No Limit
And the ranks can be found in the above section. If you have an issue with this rule, feel free to PM Jeiku or Raiona. Exceptions are always possible, you just need to ask.
Every month we go through the member list and remove inactive accounts. If you are an apprentice (less than 10 posts) and your last post was a month ago or more, your account will be deleted. For ranks above apprentice, you will not be deleted unless your last post was more than 2 months ago. If you are going to be away, or even going on Hiatus, please post in the away board just so we know. Your account will be considered immune from the activity deletions.
One of the great things about the internet is the variety of people that can come together, to play together, and to create together. This comes at the price, however, of the fact that you don't know everybody. You don't know who they are or what they've been through, which leads us to the following rule:
Age Limit / Trigger Warnings:
This is an adult site. Many of our members are in our twenties or above and we will not be censoring content for those not “of age.” We request that no one below age 15 join the site without first speaking to an admin, and no concessions will be made for those below the age of 13. Cursing and references to drugs and sex are among the things you may find within threads. It is up to the player's discretion how much is played out and how much is glossed over or “fade to black.” It is polite to warn readers ahead of time that a post will contain adult content, but those polite warnings are optional. What I will require, however, is the following:
Posts which contain content that is likely to be a trigger for someone who has experienced such a traumatic event will need a trigger warning at the beginning of the post. I want to give you guys the freedom to write this stuff if you need to, but it can be shocking and unpleasant to run across these subjects in a post without any warning. Such content includes, but is certainly not limited to:
- Sexual abuse/assault
- Excessive gore
I will not hesitate to expand this list if specific trigger warnings are requested. If you have any questions about trigger tags and their necessity, or wish to request a tag, please feel free to PM any of the admins or mods on the site. Also understand that a blanket "adult content" warning on every post is not really adequate. Please tag for specific triggers, or understand that some people will simply refuse to post with you.
-To post html layouts, put [ dohtml] [ /dohtml] around your post.
-Remember to close all tags, or things will get wonky on the board
-Art theft will not be tolerated here. If you use images or art that are not your own, please credit the artist/photographer.
-Layouts are not required by any means.
- This is totally not a rule, but Rivyn can be a little addicting to some.
- So, if you want, follow us on tumblr
- To prove you have read all of the rules, please put your favorite word in the password field of the join app.
