It was a long day and David needed to escape. Not from the world or anything, but from his office. He hated his office, it was the one thing about this job that he hated. He never expected himself to be the ‘behind the desk’ type, but unfortunately there was a time where he had to give up the rocking the stage job. He pushed back from his desk and spun around on his chair. That was the best part of the office, his chair. He spun around and around, gazing at the pics of him and his old band from their glory years. Those were the days.
He walked out of his small office at the back of his new enterprise. It wasn’t really an enterprise, but he often described it that way. You see, according to him, David Marren was going to build an enterprise that would blow music out of the water. He also liked to exaggerate. Davey never wanted to let his dream of being a musician die, but this was the next best thing: getting involved behind the scenes. Walked down the hallway past the empty recording studios, he sighed out loud. Of course, his label wasn’t going to be reaching soaring heights just yet. He only opened the doors of his studio and record store last week. But Davey was an impatient man, and he wanted to have the acts he was craving for.
“Going for lunch hun, keep me any messages.” he smiled at the sales assistant he had just hired for the store. He couldn’t really remember her name, the store was more Heidi’s side of things. Now, what to have for lunch. He walked through the food court in the mall and the first thing he picked up was a pizza slice. He missed pizza in Riverwood. England just didn’t know how to do pizza. He stood looking over the edge of the upper floor of the food court and remembered the days when he used to chill here after school with the band, planning set lists for upcoming gigs. That was when he got the craving for a cookie. For anyone who knew him knew, he was the human form of the cookie monster.
He scanned the food court in the hope to find somewhere to buy cookies, but nothing stood out. Taking another bite of his pizza, he walked over to the nearest person to him and sat down infront of them. Smiling at the girl, he removed his sunglasses. ”Excuse me. This is going to sound insane, but I need your help. I have the worst craving for cookies ever but I don’t know where the best place for them is.” he said, now feeling a little embarrassed at how stupid he must have looked to the girl in front of him. ”Got any advice on best cookies? I’ll obviously share.” he smiled innocently at her, just like his teenage self would have done.
Kit had a new job, her first day was yesterday, but she was off today. She might not have gotten a paycheck, but her mom had made some decent tips last night, and as a congratulations, she gave Kit some money to go to the mall. Like most girls her age, espcially from LA, the mall was like imperitive to her sanity. Her mother understood this and helped when she could. So that's what found Kit getting up and showered, and then dressed in jeans, white tank top, black vest, and boots. She'd headed out to her car and did her normal conjoling. Wyatt said they'd give her an employee discount for fixing her car and she could do payment things. Once they had the loaner cars up and running, then she wouldn't be without a ride. She was probably going to take him up on it. As much as she loved her car, it was in some dire need of TLC and she wanted to give it to him. Yes, her car was male.
Once getting to the mall she parked and headed inside. Score! There was a parking spot so close she only had to walk ten minutes to get to the building! Okay, maybe not but that's what it felt like. Kit got inside and walked around the mall for a bit. She picked up a few small things here and there before making her way to the food court area. After ordering a drink, because she was running low on funds and didn't want to waste it on food, she found a seat and plopped down. As she sipped her drink she started looking through her purchases and pulled out the journal and really cool pen that were on sale. Honestly, she had no idea why she bought them, but she figured the pen she would use and the journal was one of those, she just wanted it things. Intent as she was on her stuff, she didn't even realize someone sat down across from her until she heard the voice.
The redhead tilted back and blue eyes blinked. The guy looked damn familiar and she would have sworn he was someone. But those kind of people don't live in places like this, so she figured he was just a look alike. Her head tipped and a brow arched when he posed his dilema to her. ”You know, you are in luck. Mama always said not to take candy from strangers. She never said anything about cookies. There's actually a really good cookie place in here. But I warn you, I I don't take teasing very lightly, not where cookies are concerned. So you better be serious because cookies are not something to joke about. Especially sharing cookies with me.” The way she spoke it was if this was a most serious conversation. However, the humor was there in her eyes.
The girl started to put her purchases back into the bag and then looked over at him. ”So that this doesn't become awkward, I'm Kit and I'll be your cookie guide this afternoon.” It was then that she gave him a grin, blue eyes sparkling with mirth and mischief.

Davey couldn’t help but grin when the girl made eye contact with him for the first time. He didn’t understand it, but he could tell she was special. It was her eyes. They were big and somewhat cheeky but at the same time, she came across as mature. He already knew that he picked the perfect person to sit down next to. And when she arched her brow, his theories were confirmed. He couldn’t help but giggle when she spoke, making a little joke about cookies being the exception. That was when he realised why he liked her so instantly, she was just like him. This was something he would have said, if he had her confidence. That was one of the things he lacked, even then.
“Now, cookies are not a joking matter miss,” he grinned at her, now leaning forward onto the table between him, trying to mimic the serious conversation she was starting even though he was desperate to laugh again. “I don’t like to brag, but I am the embassador of the cookie. Willy Wonka has chocolate, I have cookies. Trust me now when I say that I would not joke about anything of the cookie persuasion.” He kept eye contact with her for a few seconds before he let a grin appear on his face. He felt like his eighteen year old self again, it was weird.
He smiled as she started to put her things away, taking that as a sign that she was agreeing to show him the way to the perfect cookie. At that point, he felt himself getting excited. But he wasn’t sure if that was because of the cookie or because he was with the female version of himself. “Ha, see I would have called you Miss Cookie for the duration so thanks for clearing that up,” he grinned, outstretching his hand to shake hers. “I’m Davey, but as you are my Kit for the day, should I be called Michael Knight?” he laughed awkwardly, smiling at her. At that point in time, he prayed that she knew of Knightrider. He didn’t want to seem like a fool already.
The redhead wasn't one for avoiding contact unless she got really embarrassed. Considering her mother was and how open and free they both were, that wasn't something that happened often. Even when she spoke without thinking. Kit tended to blurt out the first thing that came to mind and often it was somewhat flirtatious. However, as much as she flirted she never meant anything by it unless both parties were actually interested in it being more than just teasing. Most didn't get that so that tended to cause some issues in the area of how she was thought of. Did she care about that? Not really, not unless it was someone that was close to her and someone she didn't want to think she was that way. However, if they wanted it, she could very much be that way. But she was getting ahead of herself. Her head tipped to the side as she studied the gentleman in front of her, he looked so very familiar and she'd swear he was a look alike. Face it, would a famous person really live in small town, Georgia? She thought not.
Kit looked oh so serious and nodded gravely. ”Of course they aren't, sir. They are a very serious manner indeed. Right up there with cupcakes, pie and turnovers. One must never joke about something of their caliber. It just isn't done.” She had adopted a very proper and serious tone as she spoke. The only give away was the sparkle in her eyes. Kit was having fun right now but then it was always fun when one was discussing something so seriously when it truly wasn't a serious topic. Her and her mother did it often. Usually about laundry. Blue eyes widen as he spoke and she fluttered her hand in front of her face. ”Oh my, I had no idea I was speaking to cookie royalty. Please do forgive my impertinence, my lord.” It was apparent that had she been standing she would have curtsied. ”What has brought you so far from Cookievania, sir? If I may be so bold as to inquire. Oh yes, I do know my cookie history and Cookievania is the most prominent cookie country in the world.” How she was keeping a straight face right now she would never know. However his grin caused her to grin and she couldn't stop the snickering that started.
The girl got up after packing up her stuff and grinned when he said he'd have called her Miss Cookie. ”Oh no, I'm nothing but a humble cookie servant. I would not have been worthy of such a high title as Miss Cookie.” Kit laughed and shook his hand. ”It's nice to meet you, Davey. As for going by Michael Knight? You'd have to ride me first to get that title.” And there it was, her blurting out the first thing that came to mind. Again something that would be seen as sexual or flirting when it was, in truth, all in good fun. ”Come on, Lord Cookie let's go get some nummy treats. So, you been here long?” Might as well have some conversation going, yeah?

It was amazing how easily he was bouncing off this girl after only being in her company for a few seconds. It was common knowledge that Davey has always had that somewhat ‘quirky’ personality. It was apparent back in his early teens when he considered a lizard to be his best friend, and going through high school with cookies and a lunchbox. He was young at heart and even now, six months shy of the dreaded 40, he still had that young teen bursting out of him. He just longed to have a laugh with everyone he met, which was mainly the reason why he could never see himself in a typical 9-5 office job. He needed to be his own boss, being surrounded by what he loved most, the music. It was the tunes that kept him young and even though he was no longer selling out arenas, he still felt like he had power at his fingertips in the studio. His dream now was to do the same for another band, and live life vicariously through them.
He couldn’t help but grin at her as she spoke so seriously about cookies. Why wasn’t she freaked out by his strange nature? Does she not realise he’s probably double her age? They were bantering like they were both schoolkids and he really liked that about her, she didn’t make him feel like a old man, like a father. More like Daddy Cool, he thought as he let out a laugh at her calling him ‘my lord’. Now that was new. She had that ‘quirky’ personality too which made him feel so comfortable with her, and that was an achievement saying he was pretty much afraid of the opposite sex, even now. Once she grinned along with him, his eyes lit up. Her grin was addictive. It was cheeky, but innocent as well. “I’m scouting for new cookie monsters. The last one is in rehab for over-indulgence.” he said between giggles. He thought of a family guy episode he watched with his sons the other night, and of a clip of the cookie monster actually being in rehab. He actually had to leave the room to stop laughing.
“Oh I dunno about that, you are doing perfectly well so far to earn that title,” he smiled at her as she packed up her things. Davey couldn’t help but burst out in a fit of embarrassed giggled at her next remark. He really didn’t expect it but the way she just said it so comfortably made him not feel uncomfortable at all. If anything, it made him wanna say something just as cheeky back. But he wasn’t as fast thinking. “I guess I’ll let you warm your engine to me first?” he smiled at her, like a young boy who was unsure about whether what he was saying was the right thing. Smiling, he began to walk with her. “Umm, sort of.” he began. “My mom’s actually from here, but I was born in a place called Essex in England. I did move here when I was fifteen or something and lived here for a bit.” he explained, then he realised he might be boring her already. “Long story short, I moved away after school, lived in LA for a while, travelled a bit, had some fun, went back to Essex for a bit, then came back here in August. So to answer your original question, been here a few months.” he giggled. “What about you? I don’t think that accent is local?” he smiled, edging in closer to her as if to examine an accent. He wasn’t the best with accents. His was a bit of a miss match of English with an American twang. But he knew the Riverwood accent and hers wasn’t that.
Quirky was one way to describe Kit. Easy going, laid back, humorous and just plain weird were other ways that some have described the girl. Ask her and she'd just say she was who she was and she didn't see any reason to be any different. Despite her free spirited ways she was a good girl and a good friend. Though out of everything her mother had given her, her free spirit is what she was most thankful for. It actually surprised her that Davey was a lot like her, but then again he wasn't much older than her mom and her mom was the same way. She just wasn't used to seeing it outside the two of them. So yes, Davey was actually quite a refreshing change for her, and he was handsome too so that helped a lot. The fact that he was male was even better as Kit seemed to relate to guys better than girls.
Age was the last thing that Kit thought about when she met someone. It wasn't their physical age that mattered, but his attitude. Davey had an awesome attitude and personality that seemed to mesh very well with hers. Blue eyes widened and she put her hand over her heart. ”Oh my. That poor cookie monster. Will they be alright? Please tell me Count Chocula is their sponsor. I hear he's really good at helping them get back on the right track.” Davey wasn't the only one that had been giggling during this conversation. But she was trying so hard to be so serious. ”Well then, where I am taking you will help you to find a new cookie monster. I however, am too cute to be one.” She tossed her hair over her shoulder and looked a bit haughty as she did so. But her lips were twitching and her blue eyes were sparkling.
”Oh well then, I will definitely do my best to really earn the title and wear it proudly.” A brow quirked at his embarrassed giggle and she grinned at him. Her head tipped and she tapped the tip of his nose. ”I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to get my engine warmed. You did offer me cookies and conversation. That's a very big step.” Shes started walking him, her head tipped as she listened to him talk. A small smirk on her lips when he went into the whole spiel and she wondered if she actually made him nervous. Truth be told it wouldn't be the first time as most don't know how to handle her. But he seemed to be doing really well and she'd definitely give him props for that. ”Me? I've been here for a few days actually. Got in around the 18th or so. I'm originally from LA born and raised actually.” The girl glanced up and pointed to the cookie store. ”And here we are. What's your favorite type of cookie?”

It was safe to say that this was probably one of the best conversations Davey can remember having with someone in the longest time. Yeah, he’s had some awesome discussions, mainly with the band back in the days of tour bus banter. And ofcourse he’d have to mention the important conversations like engagement and when he first found out about his kids. But for the longest time, all his conversations were the boring type. Business, adult decisions, drama. Today was the first day he felt excited about where a conversation could end up. It was refreshing to be able to just talk the biggest pile of silly and not get ridiculed for it. It was like what he expected a librarian to feel like at the end of a long day when she finally gets to let her hair down. Or something like that.
He was in awe of her, but he wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or not. For a second, he wished he wasn’t as old as he was and that made him feel guilty. If he was 20-something years younger, he would be jumping at the chance to take her out. Or at least in his mind he would be. 20-something Davey probably wouldn’t have been able to have this conversation with a girl like her. But that was besides the point because he wasn’t 20-something. He was far from it actually. A sharp pain hit him in the chest when the number 39 flashed in his mind. Where did the time go? One minute selling out arenas, next minute raising a family. It was like being on a rollercoaster backwards, going so fast but having no sense of enjoyment. But despite feeling sick, he grinned at her with that very awe he was scared of. She was like fresh air to him.
“Yes, I suspect he will recover in time,” he said, getting into character. “The Count is unsure of the extremes and as you can imagine, it is very difficult to recover from an OD of cookies, especially with such huge chocolate chips. But I have every faith that the Count will save him.” he smiled. He liked the sound of her giggle. And when she mentioned she was too cute to be the new monster, he couldn’t help but agree. It wasn’t until then that he properly took in how beautiful she was. Cute was an understatement, but he didn’t want to say that and make her feel uncomfortable. “Very true. You do not have the monster qualities I am looking for.” he laughed.
He could feel the fact that she picked up on his embarrassment, which wasn’t hard considering he was sure he was probably going red at that moment. And if he wasn’t, he definitely was when she tapped the tip of his nose. He scrunched up his nose and grinned down at her, repeating the same nose tapping on her. Although he only grazed hers slightly in fear of doing it too hard. “Who’d have thought cookies and some light refreshing convo would make me such an impeccable mechanic for woman’s engines.” he smiled. “That may have sounded a little seedy.” he laughed. He normally would have been worried about her reaction but something told him she wouldn’t find that uncomfortable. “That’s awesome! LA girls are the best! he grinned, repeating a phrase he may have used during his days there. “That sorta makes me feel bad. I should be showing you around. And this place looks great.” He looked up at the store then peered into the windows. Yeah, this was the place of Gods. “Ooh, what a question. I’m not sure. I usually go for the simple, yet elegant choc chip. But I like to try new things. What you think? Shall I try something new?”
Kit was blessing her mother for gracing her with such a goofy and laid back nature. It wasn't often that one could find a person that could just go with the flow. At least not on this level. She'd met one so far, but that was an online chat so she wasn't sure if he'd have been like that in person. But here she was, with an incredibly sexy and handsome older man, talking about some seriously silly stuff. Kit loved this. She was never one that wouldn't be herself to impress someone, this was who she was. She was just thrilled that she didn't feel like she was being an immature 'kid'. The redhead liked that he not only was willing to go with it, but that he started it.
Like her mother, Kit didn't put much stock in physical age. It was more the connection between two people that mattered. People go too wrapped up in the age thing and too wrapped up in assuming that someone younger didn't understand things. It was kind of a pain in the ass being told by adults that she was too young to understand. Never her mother though, he mom knew she understood the consequences of her actions. Younger people weren't given enough credit these days and then people wondered why they refused to grow up. It was a shit age to be in. Kit however, understood and she knew what she was getting into when she got into situations. She also knew that she was having a lot of fun with this guy and anyone who wanted to talk shit on it because of the age difference could kiss her ass. When he grinned at her, she grinned right back at him. She had no idea that she intimidated him and would have been shocked to find out he was in awe and scared of her at the same time he liked her.
”Well I'm sure that he will get all the help possible. Though it's said when we lose one so young. He'll never be able to be a cookie monster again. Perhaps he can transfer to the cupcake division?” The look on her face was oh so serious and the tone of her voice matched. Had she been wearing glasses, she would have pushed them up the bridge of her nose. ”Well I'm sure that I will qualify for something in the offices of Lord Cookie.” She flashed him a saucy little grin and kept walking until they got to the store.
She grinned up at him because, damn it, he was cute as hell when he blushed. When he tapped her nose she scrunched it like he had his. She leaned closer and whispered in his ear. ”You know, hello I'm looking for cookies, is much more effective than asking me if it hurt when I fell from heaven.” She rocked back on her heels and looked at him. ”Because of the guy had taken the time to get to know me, he'd know I've never been anywhere near heaven.” She gave him a wink and turned her back to him to start walking again. She looked back at him and smirked. ”A little seedy never hurt anyone.” Kit waggled her brows and snickered. She just gave him an 'of course we are' look when he said that LA girls were the best. ”Tell you what, after we get the cookies and then something to drink to go with them, you can show me around.” So she wanted to spend more time with him, she couldn't help it, he made her laugh. Her lips ghosted his ear when she whispered. ”Go for something new.” With that she grabbed him by his tie, turned her back, so that she was holding is tie over her shoulder and led him inside.
