FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

what is revolution academy?
Revolution Academy is the newly renamed Xavier's Institute for Gifted Youngsters. On the surface it is a simple boarding school for talented youths, however it is actually a facility set up entirely for mutants, both child and adult.
when/where is the game set?
The game itself is set in the present day, at the time this was written 2008, in Salem Center a fictitious town on the outskirts of New York. The school in set in a very rural area, though public transportation is commonly requested in order to get to the city and other local areas of entertainment.
what happens at revolution academy
The academy is a place of safety and teaching where mutants can come to learn to control their gifts. People under the age of 18 are required to attend classes as they would in the outside world. Adults however have the choice of becoming members of the Academy Staff, informally named "X-Men" by the students, and help with the development of the children and aid them in controlling their unique gifts.

The school offers complete board and room to students and staff. In addition there are credited academic classes that encourage students to fill their minds with the knowledge they deserve. The institute encourages youngsters not only to be all they can and learn to live in the world they were born into, but to also make it their goals to try and better their surroundings.
what is an x-man?
X-Men are the adult mutants, most of which are former students, that inhabit the academy who assist in its everyday running. Some choose to help educate the children by becoming teachers or guardians; others choose to only help on missions and better the safety of the school.
missions, what are these?
Missions can really involve anything from stopping dangerous mutants running rampage to collecting more down and out mutants to join their ranks.
and what do x-men do in their spare time
This is really up to the individual, some choose to help about the academy where others prefer to go train in the danger room.
what about students?
When they are not in class they are expected to entertain themselves while keeping out of trouble. No student is above the law and any found causing trouble will be disciplined appropriately. There is ample transport into both Salem Centre and New York City. Some may also choose to find themselves part time work, however students are to bare in mind that their grades are to be kept to the highest level.
and junior x-men?
Junior X-Men are former students who have graduated academically from Revolution Academy and wish to continue residence at the school and become an X-Man. These members are still students and are required to attend higher levels of educational classes, as well as go through training. Training involves them readying themselves for potential missions they may encounter as an X-Man, as well as logical thinking and rational, appropriate ethics. From time to time they may be called upon to go on missions with the x-men.
what about the people outside the school?
We now have a number of character classes who live outside the school including; neutral mutants, humans and government agents.
what do neutral mutants do?
Neutral mutants live and work outside of the academy. However this isn’t to say that neutral mutants have no ties with the school, some are ex-students and teachers who have left for various reasons and can be on good or bad terms with the establishment.
what about humans?
Again, humans live and work away from the academy. They can be characters whose mutations haven’t developed yet. You have a lot of freedom when it comes to creating such a character . Please bear in mind that not all humans will be anti-mutant.
who are the government agents?
Government agents are, as the name suggests, agents of the government. The exact agency they work for is yet to be revealed. Very little is known about them and the jobs that they perform. Since their arrival in town they have taken a particular interest in the academy and its inhabitants and spend most of their time investigating mutant activity in the area.

is the game based on the comic/cartoons/movies?
The game is very loosely based on the comics, but hardly follows many of the common storylines. This Role-Playing Game is an Alternate Universe, so there are many possibilities for cannon characters. This means many, if not all, characters can be modified to better suit both the player and the board.

Of course, the general premise comes from these but it is really an amalgamation of the three, set in our own real world, so anything that happens in real life, i.e. the Iraq war, happens here too.
how is the game played?
This is a play by post game, meaning you write everything that your character thinks and feels. There are however a number of rules that should be adhered to, especially ones regarding realism, for example; if your character is twelve then he/she would not be able to buy cigarettes. The rules and laws from our world apply to the roleplay. One main point we like to press is that we like to see people roleplay people not powers, we’d rather see personalities than just powers.

Also, as this is an intermediate board, please be aware that posts must be at least 350 in length.
If you have a question that hasn’t been answered here them please do not hesitate to PM the administration.

Revolution Academy has been up and running since September 2005. Our members are dedicated to telling a story rather than just engaging in drama and we pride ourselves on giving them an environment in which they can do so. We are an intermediate board and, as such, ask for 350 words minimum per IC post. Our main aim is to provide a fun place where people can work on and, hopefully, perfect the art of writing and are more than willing to help anyone who truly wishes to improve and become part of our game. All in all we are a friendly board with friendly members and helpful staff, so if this sounds like the sort of place for you, don’t hesitate to join up or drop us a line in the c-box.

When signing up please select a first and last name and use proper capitalisation. Anything that deviates from this will be deleted without notice.

Blood is being shed, and there’s no telling who will continue standing where they initially rose. Some will change sides after a revelation, while others will remain headfast and steady. The mutants had harbored no ill will toward human kind, though there are rumors that they will longer take the insults any longer. They once desired peace and harmony, where both races could be considered as equals.
Now they want revenge.

Nights are getting longer and the days are getting colder as New York finds itself hurled into the depths of WINTER. Forecasters as predicting a particularly cold one this year with more than its fair share of snow, rain, sleet and ice that brings with it the promise of a white Christmas. But don’t forget to wrap up warm, we wouldn’t want you missing the seasonal festivities!

It has to be said we’ve all been eagerly watching this pair of fuzzy blue folks wondering how they’re going to cope with each other presences at the academy... And whether anyone is going to complain about all the blue fur blocking the sinks. Great work so far guys, we can’t wait to see more!
